Gunfire disrupts a Christmas wedding in this 2-in-1 collection of original, connected novellas.

Rescuing the Witness by Beth Cornelison

Bullets are fired at a ranch wedding in Texas and the only witness to the unknown sniper's identity is wedding guest Kara Pearson. When the rifle turns to her, Kara runs for her life. Her only hope for survival? The man who broke her heart years ago. But Sheriff Brady McCall vows to protect Kara - and right old wrongs.

Exciting and emotional story. Kara is attending the wedding of her good friends, but at the same time her heart is breaking. One of the groomsmen is her ex-boyfriend, and all she can see is what could have been. She had broken things off when she couldn't get him to listen to her fears and concerns. She sneaks out of the ceremony to get her emotions under control, and witnesses a man shooting into the crowd. Terrified when he turns his gun on her, she hops on a horse and flees into an approaching storm.

Brady reaches the barn just in time to see her go. Afraid for her safety, he leaves his deputies in charge of the scene while he goes after her. Kara ends up trapped in rising flood waters, bringing back memories of her father's death, which only intensify when Brady is also trapped. Once they are out of that danger, they still have to face the reality of Kara being the only witness who can identify the gunman.

Forced together to deal with the danger, both Kara and Brady have to face their past in order to move ahead. It's obvious that they both still care, but their communication skills didn't seem to be up to the challenge. I felt bad for Brady because he had no clue what it was that had driven Kara away. He knew that he loved her and was miserable without her. I could also feel Kara's frustration with him, as she constantly felt like he was ignoring her feelings. I loved seeing the way she was finally able to get him to sit down, shut up and actually listen to what she had to say. Of course, she also had to listen when he explained his side also.

The final confrontation with the gunman was really intense. My heart was pounding at the danger Kara was in. I loved seeing how Kara and Brady's connection made it possible to survive the encounter. Even more satisfying was the way that Brady finally understood Kara's fears and they came out the other side even stronger.

I liked following along as Kara and Brady worked to discover who the gunman was and why he had been shooting at the wedding. It was exciting to see how Kara's powers of observation provided vital information and a possible link to the bride. While Kara is now safe, the mystery isn't over. The question is now about who is after April and why.

Rescuing the Bride by Colleen Thompson

After being jilted and having gunfire erupt at his wedding, bull rider turned rancher Nate Wheeler fears his pregnant bride is the intended target. But as he and April Redding try to track down the shooter, Nate uncovers the secret reason April refused to say "I do" at their ceremony.

Nate and April have bee friends since they were kids, but that friendship took a strange turn a few months earlier. Both had gotten drunk and ended up in bed together, then agreed the next morning that it had been a mistake. But when April ended up pregnant, Nate insisted on doing the right thing and proposed marriage. Unfortunately, the closer the wedding has gotten, the more convinced April is that she made a mistake. As she stands beside him at the altar, April realizes that she can't marry a man who looks at her as an obligation. Just as she starts to tell him so, shots are fired and the scene dissolves into chaos. Nate's dad is critically injured and flown to the hospital, with Nate and April following by car. Nate refuses to let her out of his sight until things are straightened out.

This story takes place at the same time as the previous one, so there is some intertwining of the details. It becomes clear that someone is out to get April, but the question is who and why. Is this linked to the work that April did as a paralegal and the threats that she and her coworkers received? Or is it related to something that April saw that she doesn't realize is important? I loved the increasing tension as April remembers more and more details and begins to connect the dots. I figured out the culprit only a little before it was revealed. The final confrontation was intense as I wondered how it was all going to turn out.

Throughout the story was also the worry about how Nate and April would be able to rescue their relationship. I completely understood April's fears, as Nate's attitude toward their marriage seemed to be one of forcing himself to do it rather than actually wanting to be with her. He may have been a champion bull rider, but emotionally he's more like a bull in a china shop. It seems like every time he opens his mouth he says something wrong. It doesn't help that he doesn't realize what his feelings really are until it is almost too late. Meanwhile, April is in love with him, but has never actually told him so. By the time the wedding comes, she has realized that she wants it all, but hasn't been able to find the courage to tell him so. Throughout the danger, their love grew stronger until they were finally able to admit it to each other.

Loved it! The fact that the two stories were connected was awesome! The suspense was amazing in both stories, and the outcome unexpected. With both occurring around the same time, it was very cohesive and seamless. I definitely recommend this book.

A Christmas wedding should be a special time for the bride and groom. But when shots are fired before a couple can complete their vows, the shooter must be found to keep possible targets plus an eyewitness safe. Beth Cornelison and Colleen Thompson combine their talent for writing romances packed with suspense, and the result is a captivating pair of stories centered on two couples facing issues that greatly impact their lives. COWBOY CHRISTMAS RESCUE has riveting danger and is profoundly emotional. I really enjoyed how so many Christmas themes were worked into each story, adding more reality to these two holiday novellas. The Texas setting was also very interesting.

“Rescuing the Witness” by Beth Cornelison

There is no way Kara Pearson would miss the marriage of her friends with them all living in Rusted Spur, TX, even if it means she will more than likely come in contact with Sheriff Brady McCall. Though she had hoped they would have their own wedding one day, she broke up with him ten months ago. While sorrow over her decision still haunts her, she feels it was her only option. During the ceremony, several gunshots cause panic and Kara is in the right place to see the shooter. Bolting from the scene, she has to worry not only about the sniper but the increasingly bad weather. When Brady sees her leave, her safety is foremost in his mind when he goes after her.

Tackling one death-defying predicament after another, Kara and Brady find themselves fearing for their lives countless times. Their emotional state always plays a big part when a gunman pushes them to confront the topics they have avoided since they parted. Kara believes their relationship is doomed, but Brady is not willing to give up on the woman he never forgot. She has let the past rule her future, but getting him to listen has never been easy. Beth Cornelison has created a gripping story for her couple, where threats are ever-present and feelings are conveyed with lots of intensity. “Rescuing the Witness” enthralls with perilous situations and honest emotions. 4 Stars

“Rescuing the Bride” by Colleen Thompson

While April Redding had accepted Nate Wheeler’s marriage proposal after she became pregnant, she finally realizes becoming his wife will be for the wrong reasons. Too bad that the time she picks to let him know is at his family’s ranch during their wedding vows. But before he even has time to react, an unknown sniper starts shooting. Though nothing is certain, April and even Nate began to believe the motive for the attack could be related to her paralegal work, and they worry the individual may not quit until he succeeds in carrying out his objective. As they try to work through the consequences of what took place during the day they were supposed to wed, the couple must also decide how they truly feel about each other.

Now it is time to learn what was happening to the bride and groom while their two friends were having their own problems which were depicted in the first story. There are many frightening occurrences for the engaging couple to overcome in the compelling story by Colleen Thompson, where jeopardy can arise in an instant. Trouble started for Nate and April once the day began, but neither could have predicted how tragic the day would eventually turn. Conflicted feelings and never-ending danger have these two tackling a large number of setbacks in their relationship, and each new complication added to my concern for them ever finding happiness together. Nate was a fearless bull rider, but April is the one who can take his breath away when she refuses to marry him. Genuine reactions and plenty of earnest words are spoken between them, and I could certainly sympathize with them on quite a few occasions. “Rescuing the Bride” has intriguing mysteries and emotionally stirring incidents. 4.5 Stars

Rescuing the Witness by Beth Cornelison

Kara Pearson still loves Brady McCall, but she has good reason not to marry a man in law enforcement. She breaks it off with Brady, and tries to get on with her life. Months later, she must face him again at her friend’s wedding. But when a gunman’s bullets interrupt the ceremony, Kara runs for her life.

Brady has no idea why Kara rejected him with no explanation. Now there’s a killer stalking her, and Brady’s job is to save her life. He’s also determined to find out why she left him, and hopefully to win her back. This enjoyable read has bunches of action from beginning to end.

Rescuing the Bride by Colleen Thompson

April Redding is having a really bad day. She breaks off her wedding at the altar about the time a sniper opens fire on the ceremony. Nate Wheeler is blindsided (not to mention pissed) when his bride announces she won’t marry him, but he shoves those feelings aside when his father is seriously injured by a flying bullet. The big question is – who is the intended target? His father? Or April?

In the meantime, these two strong characters try to figure out if their feelings are friendship or love – or both. This story is packed with plot, amazing twists of facts and possibilities that will keep you guessing until the very end. Colleen Thompson is one of my favorite authors, and I never get tired of trying to figure out whodunit. Enjoy it!

Cowboy Christmas Rescue is a 2-in-1 collection or original novellas by Colleen Thompson and Beth Cornelison. Both authors are strong writers with distinct voices and this collection does not disappoint. The stories are loosely connected by events and together present a full picture of events. Each stands alone and blends seamlessly with the other. I really enjoyed both author’s work and found having them packaged together increased my enjoyment – I didn’t have to go track down the other installment. Because they are novellas the events move quickly. I found them to be the perfect afternoon’s compliment. I really enjoy both of these authors and hope they join forces again soon.

I read this book and couldn't put it down. I have never read any books by Beth Cornelison but I have now found a new author to follow. I have read many of Colleen Thompson's books and found each one well written and hard to put down when reading them.

Cowboy Christmas Rescue from the first page to the last held my attention and is one of the books I read all night to finish it. The characters were very well developed and the plot flowed. I recommend this book, but plan on not putting it down.

I really liked how April, and Kara who are best friends both got their own book within one book. In Rescuing the Witness Kara was attending April's wedding. She had a panic attack and had to step outside. She went to the barn. Animal always had a way of calming her down. There was a shooter in the barn, that took a shot at April the bride. Kara saw the shooter. She knew she had to get away fast, so she jumped on the back of a horse and rode as fast as she could. Brady McCall was the town sheriff, and also her ex. He jumped on a horse to go find Kara. The storm was moving in fast, and he knew he didn't have much time. The suspense of the story was excellent. shots fired, a water rescue was all packed into this great book.

In Rescuing the bride April was getting married to Nate. She was pregnant with his child. She stopped with cold feet before they could say "I do". Right afterwards all heck broke out. Someone was shooting. That shot was aimed for April, instead it hit Nate's dad. April had no idea who was after her, or why. Again, the suspense was outstanding. This book had twist and turns I never saw coming.

Both books were really good, and I loved getting 2 books to read within the same cover, and both books went along with one another.
