A doctors' story without the hospital environment for the most part, this medical romance is one where you not only get to fulfill you love for all things medicine but also for all things football.
Dr Melanie Hyde is all about finding acceptance with her father for the woman she is but had always been relegated to 'one of the boys' while Dr Dalton Reynolds, an orphan, wants to make life easier for the likes of him.
Both of them do not like each other to begin with but an accident relegates them to each other's presence for longer than expected and they get to learn about each other.
It is a sweet and sensuous romance with all the lovey dovey moments between them and all the thoughts in their minds where they are ready to alter their lives, even in the extreme, so as to make place for the other in it. True love it is as they do not expect the other person to change for them.
Susan Carlisle’s latest emotionally charged medical romance One Night Before Christmas is a short and absorbing read. It doesn’t linger much on the medical angle but the story is sustained with the drama in the lives of the characters. Football also plays a key point in keeping the book interesting. Dr. Dalton Reynolds travels to New York to evaluate a patient. He arrives with determination to finish the job and leave as soon as he is done. But he does not expect distraction in the form of Dr. Melanie Hyde. Even though their initial meeting had not gone so well, fate brings them together under unexpected circumstances. But with the baggage they both carry, Melanie and Dalton finds comfort in each other’s arms…(I don’t want to give any spoilers here.)
A good story that will keep you hooked from beginning to end. I read it in less than six hours!
ONE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS by author Susan Carlisle is a Harlequin Medical Romance series release for November 2015.
Sports physician Melanie Hyde was just one of the team. She was not respected or her opinion valued by her Dad, the team manager. So he calls for a second opinion on his injured star player. Then Dr. Dalton Reynolds flies in. Sparks ignite when Melanie meets Dalton. And they give in to their passion, when Melanie has to look after him.
Could she melt Dalton’s heart and make him stay for good? Would Dalton even stay till Christmas?
ONE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS is an emotional romance set near Niagara Falls. I loved the setting and the environmental information was soaked up by me. I visited a new place in this book! Author Susan Carlisle wrote about this damaged hero who didn’t know about commitment or love. It was pleasure to read how Melanie brought Dalton to his knees!
Highly recommended for all readers of medical romance.
One Night Before Christmas by Susan Carlisle Dr. Melanie Hyde was there at the airport to pick up Dr. Dalton Reynolds who was flying in specially to help determine if Martin “the Rocket” could continue playing football or if it would permanently damage his knee. Rocket was needed in the game, he was one of the top key players. They were going into playoff. Melanie’s father, the Coach was sure that Melanie could help Dalton see it the team’s way. Melanie grew up in a home where she had lost her mother at a young age and her father only say her as one of the guys. The professional football team was the Niagara Falls Currents and she was the team’s doctor. Dalton did not expect to be in town very long. He was a doctor from the Reynolds Sports and Orthopedic Center of Miami, Florida. Dalton did not know his father and his mother was taken away when he was a young boy. Both parents were into drug and went off to prison. Dalton went from foster home to foster home. Neither had the good family upbringing. This is set at Christmas time, Dalton staying through Christmas Eve due to a snow storm and he had not been prepared for so it meant some winter clothes shopping for him. The pair although brought up so differently have unexpectedly found love. Just wait to read how the sparks fly. Susan Carlisle wrote the story in a way you felt like you were shadowing both Melanie and Dalton.
Being sports physician on her fathers football team should be easy for Melanie Hyde. Her whole family is involved with the Currents football team so being part is what is expected of her, except when their star player hurts his knee , she disagrees with her dad about him playing. They call in orthopedic doctor Dalton Reynolds, for a needed second opinion. Dalton loves his career and that is all he cares about, as he has no family he dedicates his all to medicine. When he gets stranded by Niagara Falls to do a checkup on the injured football player the last thing he thought would happen would be for him to feel an attraction to the team physician. Both involved with medicine and both with separate issues in their life, find a bond with each other that eventually grows into love. What happens when one lives in Miami and one lives in Niagara falls. read the book and find out. A lovely story by Ms Carlisle.
I've never been to Niagara Falls, but Susan Carlisle made me feel the ambiance of the area. Certainly, I've never been there during the winter because, like Dalton, I'm not a cold weather person. However, that didn't stop me from feeling the romance of the setting.
Melanie (Mel) and Dalton both have guarded hearts - for different, albeit valid, reasons - and are cautious about their growing attraction. When that attraction is compounded by common interests, admiration and respect, they're helpless to avoid an entanglement, even fearing nothing will come of it. That takes guts, but Susan writes strong characters.
In closing, let me just say that I am, by no stretch of the imagination, a football fan. I actually kind of groaned when reading that Mel was a sports doctor. But Susan took me into a world I'm unfamiliar with and made me feel at home.
"One Night Before Christmas" by Susan Carlisle is a wonderful, Classic Romance. It is listed as a Medical Romance because the characters are doctors, but it is much, much more. When I picked up the story I didn't want to put it down. I loved this story because it brought the characters Doc Dalton Reynolds and Dr. Melanie (Mel) Hyde together, and built a relationship of friendship between them. Dalton came to Niagara Falls from Miami to give a second opinion on Currents football player Rocket as to whether or not he would be able to play. What he does is make Mel see herself as more than just a team player, and as a woman.
ONE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS perfectly interweaves medical careers with sports, romance and the holiday season to create a story that constantly enthralls. Susan Carlisle always manages to make her main couple lovable, even if they make mistakes like in real life. Though Dr. Dalton Reynolds and Dr. Melanie Hyde are pleased when anyone they are treating improves, they each have issues in their private lives which keep them from being truly content. After they meet, neither is ever the same again and much soul-searching must be done while deciding in what direction they want their futures to go.
Though Dr. Melanie Hyde is a competent physician, her choice to work with the professional football team where her father is the general manager does not always bring her satisfaction. One of those disappointing times is a current situation that makes the needs of the team more important than her medical judgment. Her father has sent for another doctor who specializes in orthopedic problems to be flown in from Miami to give his opinion about a player with knee complications. So Melanie is at the Niagara Falls airport to pick up Dr. Dalton Reynolds., and she is trying not to think about how her own views are being questioned. Upon meeting the renowned surgeon, she notices he is good-looking but is not impressed by his stern manners.
Football has little appeal to Dalton because of his upbringing, but fixing a bone problem that people often must face does bring its own reward. While Melanie may arouse his awareness, she is nothing like his usual dates so he will just ignore his feelings. She also finds the visiting doctor to be intriguing, but her previous relationships have her wary of men and their intentions. When an unexpected event has Melanie and Dalton spending many hours where they get to know one another better, they like what is learned. Too bad the time that he will be in the area could not be longer.
A very real sense of the holidays is portrayed throughout ONE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS. Whether it is shopping or enjoying the colorful sights, the seasonal aspects had me getting in a festive mood. There are numerous references to football, but even if you are not a big fan, every situation can be enjoyed as each moment is relevant to the relationship of Melanie and Dalton. Anything medical is certainly interesting, and several incidents are particularly moving plus showed just how involved the two doctors were with the individuals they are helping.
The way Melanie and Dalton grew up may not been alike, but both are presently affected by circumstances that they have lived through. I felt for them on numerous occasions, especially when they let the past keep them from finding joy. Their reactions are definitely true-to-life, and waiting to see what each would ultimately decide had me reading without stopping. Their growing desire is expressed with honesty plus much fondness, and their sexual encounters are stirring. I genuinely cared for this couple who wanted to use their medical knowledge to assist others, and how they personally became invested in certain cases had me admiring them even more. The latest medical romance by Susan Carlisle is full of holiday spirit and powerful emotions. ONE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS is notably compelling.
