After Book 1, I had one major criticism: the logical inconsistencies occasionally pulled me out of an otherwise incredibly addictive story. So I was curious whether Book 2 would manage to keep everything I loved while tightening exactly that part.
It did.
The inconsistencies are still not completely gone, but they felt significantly less noticeable this time. And everything that made me devour the first book is still here: Kalia, her four dangerously addictive men, their fantastic banter, plenty of spice, and a plot that keeps moving and rarely gives you room to breathe.
But what impressed me most about this installment was the additional depth beneath the Dark Romance.
The author introduces PTSD in soldiers and the consequences that can remain long after the actual battlefield has been left behind. What I appreciated was the restraint. The subject is given emotional weight without being turned into a dramatic device simply to make us feel sorry for a character. Instead, we see how trauma can continue to influence behavior, relationships, reactions, and the ability to return to a supposedly "normal" life.
And then the story adds another layer I hadn't necessarily expected: environmental protection, responsibility, and morality.
Dark Romance often deliberately asks us to accept morally questionable characters. Here, however, morality becomes part of the plot itself. What are we willing to destroy for power or profit? When does looking away make us complicit? And can people who operate comfortably in moral grey zones still draw very clear lines when something matters enough?
For me, these questions give the suspense plot considerably more substance without turning the novel into a lecture. The social themes are simply woven into a story that remains first and foremost entertaining, spicy, tense, and wonderfully addictive.
And Kalia and the guys? Still my favorite part. Their banter keeps their relationship alive beyond the sexual attraction, while the spicy scenes deliver exactly what I hoped for after Book 1. 🔥
I genuinely didn't know there would be a third book, though.
So that ending caught me completely unprepared.
That is not an ending. That is a threat. 😭
A real cliffhanger, and one I desperately hope will be resolved soon because at this point, I want only one thing:
Give those five their Happy End. And please, please give Liam one too.

Deine Entscheidung ist gefallen.
Shattered Control 2 von Lia Hope ist die Fortsetzung der Geschehnisse um Kalia und die 4 Jungs.
Die Jungs wissen nun, dass Kalia eine Elitesoldatin ist und was ihre Aufgabe war.
Doch wer hat es auf die Jungs abgesehen und warum genau?
In diesem Band erfahren wir etwas mehr über die Vergangenheit der Jungs und warum sie sich entschieden haben, sich gegen die Regierung aufzulehnen.
Werden sie Kalia nach dem missglückten Einsatz retten? Ist Kalia überhaupt zu retten?
Die Geschichte hat auch dieses Mal wieder überzeugt, auch wenn ich mir gewünscht hätte, dass Kalia weiterhin etwas taffer wäre. Aber auch die Wandlung ist nach den traumatischen Erlebnissen absolut nachvollziehbar.
Auch die Hintergründe zu den Jungs haben mir wirklich gut gefallen. Dadurch konnte ich manche Handlungen wesentlich besser nachvollziehen und verstehen.
Der Schreibstil ist flüssig, rasant und bringt die passende Spannung in die Erlebnisse der Protagonisten.
Auch am Ende dieses Buches gibt es wieder einen Cliffhanger, der mich schier wahnsinnig gemacht hat!
Ich brauche Band 3!
Ich muss unbedingt wissen, wie es weiter geht!
