I give this book four stars based solely on the storyline (Which was great!) and the fact that it really felt like an episode of the show in book form (At least to me) which was really cool!
Just a note: this book is not clean language wise, though there were no F-bombs. I would say that there was a bit more than a fair amount of profanity, most of which was said by the villains, I definitely would have preferred if there had not been any but seeing as this is a mainstream novel it was to be expected. There were also a few brief innuendos, again if I'd had my druthers there wouldn't have been any, but I know they could have been a lot worse than they were. Otherwise I found this book to be pretty clean and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Enjoyed seeing Callen, Sam, Kensi, Deeks, and the others again. The case was good. Glad they were able to stop the Armenians before they were able to committ mass genocide.

Can't wait to read NCIS: LA: Bolthole!!!!

A strong tie in to the TV series, the pace rattles along like you'd expect from an NCIS LA episode but not in a way that rushes it too much.

I'm a big fan of NCIS all series.
This one with the Los Angeles cast is action packed with bad guys. G and Sam save the day, as always.

Some of the dialog got a bit much, with the retired Navy and CIA men. Dieks' use of a new after shave was funny, but then too much.

Lots of long interrogation and dialog. Loved the shooting and Action more.

Not bad. A fun extended episode of the show. Good summer read between new episodes. Fast and simple entertainment

The measure of a novel based on a television series is whether or not the characters say and act as they would on the show and this book does pass that test very handily. The dialogue between Callan and Hanna is spot on for the banter they exchange in the series and the same goes for the other field agents, Kensi and Deeks. The story, involving the murder of a retired admiral, a captured German U-Boat at the end of World War II, and a terrorist plot against Los Angeles moves along quickly, alternating between the terrorists and the NCIS investigation.

The only negative, and it's a small one, is I found the subplot of Deeks using animal urine for a cologne to be totally unnecessary and a distraction. Perhaps it was for comedy relief? Not sure. One other note before I highly recommend this book to fans of the show: if you aren't up to date with the show at the time this book was written, there are spoilers about what happens on the series.

Book read a lot like watching an episode on tv which was good and bad.
The good was that it was familiar and did not raise questions about why that characters were doing something that did not seem normal. Also there was a little more story told from the villians' perspective.
The bad was that there was nothing extra that reading a book can offer. There was no insight to the characters thoughts and emotions; no additional character development. It was somewhat bland.
Most of the characters were pretty much like their show counterparts, except Eric and Neil were off. Their limited playfulness felt very forced and unnatural.
Eric and Granger each called Callen 'G', but I'm pretty sure they have always referred to him as 'Callen' on the show.

Great and inventive plotline but the characterization prevents me from giving this one four stars. I'd wager that the author hasn't watched an episode of NCIS: LA in his life - that should be the first thing the author of a movie or TV tie-in novel does - because none of the characters were quite right.

All the gang are here in this action packed novel. Deeks, Kensi, Sam, Callen, Hetty, Nell, Eric and Granger must all work together to stop a terrorist event from happening in Los Angeles, and do so with minutes to spare.

A good read! Everyone was written in-character and one could absolutely envision this as a widely-scoped episode. I particularly loved the animalic plotline, as it would definitely be a Deeks thing to do.

What a story! Amid the violence & bad language (not as bad as it could have been though), the story was pretty good. Having seen the show, it was nice to have the characters’ faces in mind as I read it. Quick paced and a bit unrealistic, but I enjoyed it!

Easy read

The story started slow but soon picked speed. Since I watch the show, it was easy to envision the story too. Very enjoyable!

I really enjoyed this novel. I think it moved slower than the other NCIS LA book, Bolthole, but the ending was well worth it!

All the worst parts of the show (lots of Sam/Callen, an impersonal and boring-until-the-very-end case) plus extra helpings of boring scenes with criminals, in standard mystery novel fashion. Which doesn't work for me in a book based on a show like this, where I just barely tolerate the cases for the pleasure of watching Deeks and Kensi work together (or preferably, be unprofessional and flirt with each other on the job).

There was no such enjoyment here. Somehow this author, given license to do whatever he wanted with them, was like, "You know what would be hilarious? If the whole book had a running gag about how bad Deeks smells because he's decided to get more in touch with nature by using animal musk for cologne." This is an actual plot point that happened and was approved by an editor.

Eric and Nell are the other reason I watch NCIS: LA, and their scenes were about the only redeeming factor. I enjoyed their complementary tech wizardy and their pizza dinners. I just wish that what should have been a cute girl-talk scene with Kensi trying to suss out Nell's relationship status hadn't ended with Nell talking about artichokes in that disturbing way. You were on the right track! And then...crash.

Not a great read

I am a fan of the show, so looked forward to reading this novel.

Unfortunately it doesn't hold up, I found the interaction between the characters poor, especially Sam and Callen who at times felt stilted.

I also noticed a few mistakes like calling William Halsey, a famous U.S. Navy Admiral as a British Admiral, or having a character in one scene in 1945 as a Lieutenant and a later scene he was an Admiral in the same year.

Overall I personally wasn't impressed with this novel

I read this book because I'm going through and watching all of the NCIS tv shows. I enjoyed it because I enjoy the shows and it was very similar.

Not too bad. Characters really written like author knew them well. A good book to read if you are a fan. Definitely a cliff hanger. Enjoy NCISLA fans.
