Tammy has an anatomy that defies medical science. Her father abandons her; her mother hits the bottle and labels her a ‘freak’, a ‘monster’, isolating her from society. Her knowledge of the outside world shaped by rolling news broadcasts on television - war, violence, and attacks perpetrated against women. Why would she even want to leave home?

That is until she discovers a different bodily reaction; online search engines leading her into a new voyage of discovery and a realisation that she may have found her purpose - a role for a woman ‘wired differently’ from the norm.

Paul is making his own new discoveries, slowly realising the failings that led to his divorce. Meeting new people after so long is tough, but a chance encounter with someone as lonely as him gives him an opportunity to start to rebuild.

It would have been easy if this story was page after page of medical anomalies and ‘freak pointing’ but Addams doesn’t take that shortcut. Tammy is someone you immediately want to succeed, to have the life she has been denied, and to stop from making mistakes. Her bodily functions exposed only where the narrative requires it, but when they do they are not for the weak of stomach.

This is an astounding debut with a unique and fresh voice. The extreme elements don’t make the story, they explain it.

I am really excited that this is book one of a series, because that ending…

Thank you Alexa Addams for letting me have an ARC in return for an honest review.

…What a first book! 🤩

We get introduced to Tammy. A 34 year old whose medical condition scares off her own father 😞& as for her drunk mother..well she thinks it’s best for herself that her daughter the ‘freak’ is kept away from the outside world..the world isn’t ready for someone like her daughter.

Tammy has the TV for information about the world.. she’s terrified of the unknown, afraid of what’s outside of the house… all she sees and focuses on the tv is the bad that’s happening ..&how men can be such monsters.

Then there’s Paul. Who is newly divorced and trying to navigate his new single status and trying to just be himself..and trying to get over his ex wife Becky.

Then one night, Tammy and Paul meet…

This book is so worth a read. You get drawn into the characters so well & omg The ending!!!… nope nope Alexa you can’t leave it like that… we need more. 😱

I can’t say much more as don’t want to give anything away. 🫠

So excited for book 2 & 3! 🥳
