Ever had your date bombed by a hot ghost?

As it turns out, living in a fantasy world isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Miller V. Brown has collected a plethora of credentials over the years — professional orphan, mediocre journalist, pathetic lowly mortal… then of course there’s her most recently acquired title ‘victim of immortal gentrification’. Inner city taxes have been raised for humans. So, Miller has to move.

She never expected the mortal subsidised housing program to be perfect. Her new house is next to a haunted forest overrun with demonic chickens, for starters. And then there’s the talking tree with an attitude problem who happens to be her neighbour. But as Miller begins to acquaint herself with her strange new surroundings, she finds friendship and community along the way. Life isn’t perfect but she’s managing. Until she discovers her new lodgings are inhabited by the haughty (albeit unquestionably hot) poltergeist, Walker.

With nowhere else to go, and Walker intent on making her life miserable, Miller’s only option is to resort to supernatural warfare. But somewhere amidst possessed poultry attacks and failed exorcisms, Miller and Walker unravel each other’s defences. An unlikely friendship and undeniable attraction makes Miller question everything she knows about acceptance and belonging.

Could it be that this orphan has finally found her forever home, even if it is a little haunted?

Gosh I absolutely loved this book!

All sass & quick whit mixed with heart & soul made this book just a beautiful story.

Miller, what a sassy queen. She’s a girl that has always had the world against her and now she has to deal with Walker, a ghost that is annoyingly handsome & well plain annoying.

Miller and Walker together were perfection, I loved their slow burn & constant back and forth.

The side characters were really a highlight for me , everyone needs besties like Lavender and Delilah!

I really wanted more, sorry I’m greedy. I didn’t want their story to be over 🤭

Thank you Anneka for the opportunity to ARC read your book.
I’m so proud of you & it’s come such a long way since you first wrote it, but it’s still 100% you 🖤

I knew this book would have me cackling the second I saw “no AI you fucks” in the small print in the very beginning of the book 😂
Miller is an absolutely tragic human being existing in a weird world, and her quick wit and many one liners had me laughing out loud many, many times. This is MY kind of humour. I’ve been entertained!
Her insecurities and summed up feelings were very real and relatable, especially her avoidance of them and using humour to deflect. So real for such a funny read.
Walker wasn’t around all that much in the first half of the book, and that’s really my only complaint. We seemed to miss the part where these characters traverse from heckling each other to suddenly having feelings… But I shall not spoil the ending and it all makes sense. A little bit of fuckery was afoot, in a good way.
I am left with a few questions though, like how did they both die? Where is it exactly they ended up in the epilogue?
For such an entertaining read, the ending really was heartfelt and I’ve definitely taken away the greater meaning of this book. Life is short, and be nothing except your truest self.
Thanks Anneka for the ARC read, it was a pleasure!

I loved this book so much!
I'm lucky enough to know the author from my local bookclub and I can truly say that this book was 10000% Annie and so well written!
The FMC Miller was a sassy baddie and her story with Walker was so perfect! The slow burn was just *chefs kiss*. Delilah and Lav were great side characters too which just added to my love of this book.

Annie, thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC. You did an incredible job! <3

What a fun and surprisingly deep paranormal romance this was! I found our FMC Miller to be so relatable, never knowing what to say and feeling like either the world or yourself is sabotaging all your efforts.

Meet Me After Life is a slow-burn romance about an orphan who just wants to belong and be wholly loved by someone, but this pesky ghost keeps interfering with all her dates! 👀

It was fun because the world was fantastical, filled with talking trees and possessed chickens, and the plot twist changed the game. Oh, and chapter 11 was hilarious.

It was deep because what do you mean I have 20+ quotes highlighted that were very insightful, like this:

“I think I was built to lose. It’s all I ever do. Everything is heavy. Everything is old and worn and tired. It’d be so easy to just give in.”

and this:

“Fear loses its footing when you confront it. But that means you have to stop burying it. It means you stop hiding. You hear it, you face it, and then you let it go.”

And finally, it was beautiful because I loved the two main characters and their banter together. They were perfect for each other.

If you love your stories a little nutty, with a relatable, hot mess of an FMC and a very hot MMC who loves to… let’s say, prank you, then you’ll really enjoy this story!

Paranormal romance is just my absolute comfort genre of reading. I adore it. So when I saw this book pop up on social media, I knew instantly I would want to read it.

This book, WOW! How can I even describe it? It was beautifully written, laugh-out-loud hilarious, but at the same time, so DEEPLY human.

The banter was just absolutely spot on. I adored all the side characters, they were all perfect, meant to be there and added so much value to the story. No fillers here. Even the possessed chickens, which by the way, were PHENOMENAL LOL.

There was truly nothing about this book I didn't like. Even though this is a paranormal rom-com set in a weird lil world, it doesn't mean the humanity and the reality was left out. It was there in DROVES. It was relatable, as was our darling FMC, Miller, who I absolutely adored.

I loved the weirdness, the humour, the spice, the slow burn, the friendships, the reality of it all and just EVERYTHING about this book. It was exactly the kind of book I love to read.
You need to pick up this book!

Thank you to the author for sharing an early copy with me. All opinions are my own.

Meet Me After Life was such a lovely and intriguing read. ✨ There was something about this story that felt both tender and bittersweet, with a beautiful sense of emotion woven throughout.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the way the story drew me in. It had those moments that made me pause and appreciate the little details, while also keeping me curious about where everything was heading. 💕 There’s a softness to the storytelling that I found especially enjoyable, but enough emotional depth to give the story some weight.

The characters were another highlight for me, and I loved watching their journey unfold. There were moments that made me smile, moments that tugged at my heart, and plenty that left me wanting to keep turning the pages.

Overall, Meet Me After Life was a sweet, emotional and memorable ARC read. 🌙✨ A wonderful choice if you’re looking for something with heart, feeling, and a little bit of magic woven into the pages.

Thank you to Anneka-Rose Burrell for the opportunity to read this ARC. 💕📖

This was SUCH a good book. I was definitely not expecting the twists that came throughout the book, but I loved all the characters and all the development that Miller went through. It was a great dive into the feeling that you're not good enough but coming to realize that you are perfect for the people that love you. Especially if you're in a situation like Miller who tends to always see the best in everyone except herself. Tbh the Hardy stuff kinda threw me off and I wish there was a little more regarding his involvement and his presence entirely BUT overall it was a great book, and it came together perfectly.

Wow! First of all congrats to the beautiful Anni! A sarcastic, old soul, gorgeous and a humour like none other!!

This was such a fun, quirky and completely unique read! The whole concept was really cool and I loved how much humour was woven through the supernatural chaos. (Wink see what I did there!)

Miller and Walker’s dynamic was such a highlight and I really enjoyed their relationship develop throughout the story. Behind all the witty banter and extremely funny dry sense of humour I found there were some really important themes and messages surrounding finding your people and opening yourself up.

And that ending! 🥲 After so much laughing throughout at the witty banter and many funny one-liners, I was not prepared for how bittersweet and emotional it would feel. Such a lovely balance of funny, quirky and heartfelt making this such a great paranormal romcom! Really enjoyed it!!

‘Ding-Dong’ 😂😂😂 my fave! Thank you so much for the arc lovely!!

Meet Me After Life is a journey and incredibly easy to binge. What starts as a funny, satirical, and unserious (in a good way) book, evolves into something so profound and deeply emotional. I've come to accept that reading Anneka-Rose Burrell’s books means consistent emotional rollercoasters and lots of simping over fictional men on my part. This is definitely worth the read if you fancy a quippy, easy-to-read-into-the-early-AMs, and meaningful paranormal love story (oh and possessed chickens, of course).

I feel so lucky to know this amazing Australian author and bookclub friend. Her work always puts a smile on my face.

Ever had your date bombed by a hot ghost? Miller has. And now she’s living next to demonic chickens and a talking tree with an attitude problem.

Anneka’s way with words is wizardry. She makes you giggle, she makes you feel, and then she hits you with ghosts and spice and all the cozy found family vibes.

Miller and Walker’s supernatural warfare turning into friendship and undeniable attraction? Perfect. The haunted housing + community + acceptance theme? Perfect.

She hasn’t let me down yet. And she turned this one ON.

This was an enchanting story with ghosts,

fairies, and others. I laughed, cried, enjoyed, and rejoiced, and then I cried again!!! The bonus short story at the end was sad, but held truth. Time is short, and maybe once in a lifetime- enjoy to the fullest.

I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by book sirens and am giving an honest review.
