Forgotten: A WWII Novel of Survival on a Greek Island Ignored by the Nazis

Rate this book
Germany and Italy occupy most of the larger Greek Dodecanese Islands by April 1941 with the exception of an insignificant island just off the shores of neutral Turkey. The Germans are unaware of this small outpost cutting it off from any participation in the war. Three Italian soldiers stationed there become friendly with the local people. Both the native Greeks and the abandoned Italians are happy to be out of the war and forgotten. Everything changes when, in October, 1943, an American ship is sunk off the Turkish coast while attempting to deliver ammunition to the partisans and British fighting on the island of Kos. Bradley, the chief engineer, survives and swims to this isolated island, called Farmakonisi, befriends the Italian corporal and a beautiful native girl that they both fall in love with. In their struggle for survival, many adventures follow as Bradley and the islanders fight the Germans with little more than their wits and bare hands. Dedication and bravery abound on both sides in this deadliest of conflicts, WWII.
