Four full-length novels by the king of western tales, Louis L'Amour, reprinted from his original magazine versions before his paperback publishers demanded changes. This quartet contains four of Louis L'Amour's earliest novels, books that earned him an enviable reputation as the best western writer since Zane Grey and Max Brand. Louis Dearborn L'Amour was an American novelist and short story writer. His books consisted primarily of Western novels, though he called his work "frontier stories". His most widely known Western fiction works include Last of the Breed, Hondo, Shalako, and the Sackett series. L'Amour also wrote historical fiction (The Walking Drum), science fiction (The Haunted Mesa), non-fiction (Frontier), and poetry and short-story collections. Many of his stories were made into films. His books remain popular and most have gone through multiple printings. At the time of his death, almost all of his 105 existing works (89 novels, 14 short-story collections, and two full-length works of nonfiction) were still in print, and he was "one of the world's most popular writers".
Another authentic account of the true western people that settled our country.Well writtenwe
A well written spell binder. The characters were well developed,to the point that they seemed as though they could walk out of the novel and take up residence in a ranch in our present day. The plot was also well developed .Sometimes you could almost want to get into the novel and help the hero out of a ,seemingly all most hopeless situation . I would from end this book too anyone who had ever had an interest in how our country was settled and the character of the people it took to live in our Western lands
I love Louis L'Amour but this was a waste of money. I can see why a publisher would want him to fix these first before making them novels. Wordy in a lot of places, the story gets lost in the attempt at descriptive telling. His character development is all over the place. Better punctuation would help clarify understanding. Decided not to read one of the stories. Not worth the frustration. I'll stick with reading his later-published works.
A must read! A book of short stories and a few that are longer. No one writes like Louis L’Amour. He writes with so much description that the pages come alive. Decades ago I joined his book club. So I still have all of those books. But this was not among them. I’m so glad that I read this one.
Folks sure were tough in the cowboy days. In this collection there are 4 longer books and 5 or so short stories. I read about cowboys, wagon trains, ranches and a little romance. (Well the guy will get the girl if he wants her?) Be part of the dreams of early Americana. Check it out.
This book was an awesome read from start of the first story to the last one. Once I started reading a story I couldn't stop until it was finished. There was excitement in every page.
I've been readin' Zane Grey for quite awhile, and this is my first ride with Louis L'AMour. Reckon I got a new favorite. Lots of action, less scenery, great plots with satisfact'ry endi'ns! K
Clean, has substance, well plotted, and an entertaining narration. Substance is character and morality. When the world’s crazy, I read these types of stories and the world is even-keeled again. And, if your children can read this (vocabulary) they have a good start on real education.
L’Amour books are fast paced, detailed characterizations and have both humorous moments and sadness which keeps the reader’s attention and peaks enjoyment!
Most of these I've read before and enjoyed thoroughly each time. Sadly in Trail to Crazy man editing failed and a couple of chapters are out of order. Maybe. It will be fixed before you get your copy.
