Missingville

Rate this book
When your body is dead but not found, you don't get a funeral. You get relocated.

Missingville is the afterlife's holding area for those lost, murdered, dismembered in animal attacks. It isn't heaven. It isn't hell. It's what happens when a God with a terrible sense of humor chooses an administrative stopgap.

From this hidden place, one woman watches Earth where her murderer evades capture. Navigating through this luminal new world, she curses her maker, resists and then succumbs to forgiveness, and decides what is sin and what his human frailty.

Darkly funny, Missingville explores what happens when endings remain unfinished, justice stalls, and the buried refuse to remain buried. Because even in death, consequences follow.

📚Book Review📚

"Humans run on a hamster wheel of wrongdoing, apologies, forgiveness if you’re lucky, and shame. When I was alive, I wasn’t interested in amends. I don’t think I looked in the proverbial mirror long enough to see what needed fixing. I mostly took the low road.“

I’ve spent the day entire day trying out where to even begin or how to write my review for this book.

Do I tell you that it’s the first book I’ve been able to finish in over a month? (If you follow along, you know I’ve been in a bit of a slump). Do I tell you it's a story that provokes thought, sparks anger, invites laughter, and leaves behind a quiet sadness? While all the above is true, none of it seems to do it justice. It was everything I expected and then some.

Missingville seems like the perfect place for the in-between. Except when it doesn’t. What’s forgivable and what not? And if YOU were faced with the possibility of meeting the person who murdered you, what would you do?

Christine, all I can say is, job well done and when can I get more?!

I bought this book at the cutest little bookshop in Boonville, Missouri called Bloom & Bindings. Definitely recommend, they have kittens!
Overall, I would rate this 3.5 if I could. Absolutely love the concept. The writing was relatable and humorous. I enjoy theological musings as someone who has deconstructed from the Southern Baptist faith.
In the downside, it was not particularly plot driven and had several grammatical errors. It took me most of the book to get a good understanding of who the character is/was.
Overall would recommend to anyone looking for a different read as this book really can’t be categorized into any one genre.
