~Nonstop Victorian Superhero Fun and Adventure
~I felt as though I’d entered a time warp, being transported back to my youthful Saturday morning cartoon shows and watching the 1960’s Batman TV show.
~This book is like reading a cartoon…I love it! It’s “campy” AND well written.
~I can’t take it too seriously because it is a bit of escapism from the current batch of diehard superheroes. The Scarlet Derby certainly not perfect, for example, in his first encounter with a super villain, we discover that he has mislabeled his superhero potions…however, he still managed to save the day. While some readers might consider Midnight Jay simply the sidekick…a relationship similar to that of Mrs. Peel and John Steed (1960’s TV show The Avengers)…she is definitely a force to be reckoned with…both with her witty verbal banter and physically dispatching bad guys with her trusty umbrella.
~It is a good read, for the Young Adult reader and seasoned reader. I do recommend this book to anyone looking for a light-hearted and not too serious adventure.
