Darren Anderson always suspected aliens walked among us. The surprise was finding out it was the other way around.
The Andersons are an average suburban family. Darren and Jane go to work, the kids go to school, no one talks about Mike Anderson, and aliens are real. Well… maybe not entirely average.
Resurrection is the first book of The Alien Documentaries trilogy. An alien civilization has made contact with Earth’s leaders and all of Darren Anderson’s science fiction dreams seem to be coming true. In his excitement he forgets that life never gives anything without taking something away.
*I recieved a beta version of this novel from the author.*
This was a really interesting science fiction novel. The main characters were likable and not over the top. One thing that I find difficult in a lot of science fiction is the characters-they all seem like cardboard shells. Not here. The changing perspectives from multiple characters was also a nice touch.
The first few chapters were slightly confusing, but I think it might have been more my mindset going in than anything else. Some slight polishing with another edit would improve the overall quality, but I'm sure that process is underway.
I was surprised at how much fun this was, seamlessly moving from earth to space and back again, and merging the two story lines together (three, really). The only part I wasn't a fan of was the final chapter which I didn't think was necessary and the story would have been better left as a cliffhanger. Other than that this felt like a great sci-fi story with a well thought out mythology.
I really enjoyed this book. I'm looking forward to the next one as i want to see where this goes. Initially I thought this was going to be quite slow moving. The first part of the book is quite passive with the protagonists watching events through others eyes. This was very enjoyable but the pace changes dramatically in the latter part of the book to first person action. A fun & quite broad spectrum view of first contact. the book by no means resolves the story, it feels more like a scene scetter for books to follow. Can't wait...
