Enemy of the Heart

Rate this book
Happiness is fleeting when danger lurks in every shadowy corner of the world, but I’ll cling to every second I get with Sean Diggory. He’s my light in the dark as we fight for freedom.
The tide of questions rise as they swirl around me. I need to track down my brother, but is he alive? Or has he met a fate worse than death? He wouldn’t have abandoned me, I’m sure of it.
The hunt is on, the stakes higher than ever. The government has my scent while I stalk answers. Except, snakes are hard to catch and harder to tame.
I’ve spent months on my best behavior, but when my enemies come for the only man to capture my heart, I’ll be all too willing to prove how the goddess of death earned her name.
But secrets and love are powerful weapons, especially when held to your throat.

Enemy of the Heart is book two in The Enemy Duet, following Enemy of the State, and cannot be read as a standalone.

Absolute 5 star banger and now one of my top favorite duets I’ve ever read!! Enemy of the State was a masterpiece but THIS BOOK WAS INCREDIBLE. serious plot twists and turns, so much action packed scenes where everyone got to show how BAD ASS they are!! The softness between Sean and Lou despite their tough exterior has to be one of my favorite parts of the book - and don’t even get me started on the spice. 100/10 SO GOOD

I absolutely LOVED Enemy of the State, book one of The Enemy Duet, so naturally I went into Enemy of the Heart expecting to love it too. And thank God, because BH Eastwood did NOT come to play. This book was everything I wanted, everything I didn’t know I needed, and probably several things my therapist would tell me to avoid. 😂

I am seriously, so damn happy this author decided to start writing, because this has easily become one of my favorite reads of the year.

This picks up right where we left off in book one, and for approximately five minutes, Sean and Louhi get to pretend they’re a somewhat normal couple. Those first few chapters were almost… sweet. ALMOST. But if you’ve made it this far, you already know better than to trust anything resembling domestic bliss when it comes to these two.

Sean and Louhi are on the run after Sean and Jace broke her out of Exile Island in book one, - yeah Lou did a lot of that "breaking" too - but apparently freedom comes with a hefty price tag—and this time, Sean is the one paying the bill. And our girl Lou? She is absolutely not taking that lying down.

Lou is ready to burn the entire damn world to the ground for her man, and honestly? I support her fictional chaos wholeheartedly. If you’re a fan of unhinged, maniacal FMCs, Lou is EVERYTHING. She doesn’t just walk the line between morally questionable and completely feral. She looks at the line, lights it on fire, and keeps walking.

And the “romance” between Sean and Louhi? Listen. I use that word VERY loosely. 😂 What these two consider romantic would probably qualify as a cry for help to literally everyone else. But somehow, against all logic, it works. It works for them, and apparently it works for me because I was sitting there eating it up like the unwell reader I clearly am.

The banter was also on another level in this book. I was constantly smirking, laughing, and thoroughly entertained—usually right before the next absolutely unhinged or cringe-inducing moment came barreling around the corner. These two are incapable of behaving like normal human beings, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

This book was a roller coaster of chaos, violence, insanity, and questionable decision-making, and I was strapped in for every second of it.

Sean and Lou are the perfect combination of unhinged, insane, complicated, and completely fucked up—but somehow, they fit together so seamlessly. Their darkness doesn't scare the other away. Instead, it gives them a place where they can finally be completely, unapologetically themselves. There’s something incredibly beautiful about that, especially because their version of beautiful is… well, dark as hell.

And just when you think you’re finally getting some answers, BH Eastwood is like, Oh, you thought we were going to explain everything? That’s cute. She went and threw some plot twists at me that had me sitting there staring at the book like I had personally been betrayed. Rude. Absolutely rude. I loved every second of it.

Because for every question we get answered, there are about seventeen more left dangling over a cliff.

Did I have a mild tantrum when I reached the end?

Absolutely fucking yes.

But we got several new side characters along the way who very clearly have the potential to lead us into more stories within this world, and I am already HERE FOR IT. Give me the chaos. Give me the morally questionable people. Give me the dysfunctional relationships. I apparently have no self-control when it comes to this universe.

And thankfully, we’re not done here.

There is more coming in this world, and after that ending, I NEED IT.

BH Eastwood has officially earned herself a spot on my “I will read literally anything you write” list.

Now excuse me while I go recover from the emotional damage these two psychopaths just inflicted on me.

5 STARS, OF COURSE!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Wow! What a perfect ending for this duet!! I absolutely loved seeing Lou and Sean finally find their peace with life and each other. This book was a roller coaster of chaos, to say the least! These two are the perfect combination of unhinged, insane, and complicated, but also how they fit so seamlessly with one another. Their darkness not only matches but making them feel safe enough to be their true self. It was breathtakingly beautiful in the darkest way.
Louhi will forever be one of my top favorite FMCs, she’s ruthless and will stop at nothing to get what she wants and protect who she loves.
I’m sad to see their story ending, but also happy to have known it. I loved seeing a bit of Jace, too, and how his story went, he’s such a big part of Lou and Sean’s lives that it made me happy to see his happy ending.
I also am super excited and already anxious for what was hinted right at the end… I have high hopes for what’s coming next!

I just finished EOH! And I have so much I need to unload! What a mother fucking ride! The way they unapologetically accept that they’re both damaged and love each other still through it and find their whole world in eachother! “You’re the axis on which my world tilts, Louhi. I would do anything for you.” Like come on 😩 side note I love that there was soooo much of honey eyes in here too 😍 They got their happy ending and I love that for them whole heartedly but why couldn’t she fucking kill conall shit i would have took them killing him together but she obviously got plans for him if not we gonna have some words Ma’am 😂 these books have officially reached the top of my list with the ravenhood series and the empyrean series! I can’t wait to see what comes next! Shit I can’t wait for the greatness to come because those Easter eggs that were dropping ifykyk 😋😏

After finishing Enemy of the State, I had been dying for more of Louhi and I literally did not want this duet to end! I love the dynamic that Louie & Sean have and the way they just know what the other truly needs. And their dark sides mesh together so well…especially in those spicy scenes! Between their playful banter and the plot, I was eager to see how their story would play out. And without spoiling anything, I’m curious to see what other characters might pop up later on. Check your TW if needed, but I will forever love this duet!

Oh my sweet babies.

I was locked in from chapter 1, but if we’re being honest it was from that prologue. . Because what do you mean!!!! I was so excited to get that POV, it was the perfect surprise.

I knew this was going to be a fun, crazy, wild ride after the ending of book 1. Bryn, did not disappoint at all. I was going through it. I was laughing, I was crying, I was screaming, I was blushing. Crying from eyes and my thighs, ya feeeeel me.

The plot was so much fun, and of course I was obsessed with seeing my husband honey eyes again and getting more of him. I loved that we got a glimpse of his story / ending too . Definitely what my heart needed.

Back to the story, there was so much more action in this book and Sean and Louhi are two of the most unhinged people. Put them together and it’s a DAMN GOOD TIME.. even during a mf war. 🤣🤣

The spice, my god. Sean is gonna take Louhi through it every single time. I don’t know how she survives that ride, but shit I wish I could😝

I’m so sad that this duet is over. I’m gonna miss being on an off exile island with these characters. But I’m so excited to see what’s happening, because if you’re anything like me.. you definitely peeped those Easter eggs 😏

I knew these two were going to ruin me, but I wasn’t prepared for just how much I’d love watching them choose each other.
I went into Enemy of the Heart with ridiculously high expectations after Enemy of the State, and somehow B.H. Eastwood still managed to give me everything I wanted from this conclusion. I was completely invested from the beginning and genuinely didn’t want to leave these characters behind.
Louhi and Sean are such a bizarre combination of completely unhinged and incredibly soft with each other, and I think that’s exactly what makes them work so well for me. They’re both dark, complicated, and a little insane, yet there’s this understanding between them that makes their relationship feel strangely natural. They just get each other.
I especially loved seeing their softer side. After everything they’ve been through, all those little moments of care hit so much harder. Sean’s tenderness with Louhi, the way he understands her, and how protective he is without ever taking away the things that make her her—I ate it all up.
And Louhi continues to be one of my favourite things about this duet. She’s ruthless, unpredictable, sarcastic, and refuses to let anyone break her. I loved that she never loses the parts of herself that made her so compelling in the first book, while still allowing us to see her vulnerability.
Their chemistry is obviously insane, but what I loved most was everything underneath it. The banter, tension, possessiveness, and the way they challenge each other all feel like a natural extension of who they are.
The action and twists kept me hooked too, and I loved getting more of the characters surrounding them. But ultimately, this was Louhi and Sean’s story for me, and I couldn’t have asked for a more satisfying conclusion.
I finished this feeling completely obsessed with these two, slightly devastated that their story is over, and already wishing I could read the duet for the first time again.

Look at me,” I demand, and slowly—too fucking slowly—he does. “You are Sean Diggory, and you will not break like this. I will be the only one to break you, and when I do, I promise to put you back together.”

Did I finish this book or did it finish me? Considering I found myself rocking myself in the corner with my soothie blanket and a glass of wine, I'm thinking the latter. But in my defense, what the actual f*ck, BH Eastwood? How can you do this to me? But I digress. We ride at dawn later. After I disassociate for a hot second and catch a nap. But I degress again.

To say that I have been eagerly anticipating the conclusion to this dark and depraved duet is the understatement of the century. I have been stalking Bryn's IG daily for any clue of release, but you know, in like a totally normal and not deranged way...mostly. Ish. But I digress. I've been dying for this book is what I'm saying. And boy did this conclusion deliver and then some. This starts exactly where Enemy of the State left off, and what a ride. Louhi and Sean are on the run after she escapes, but nothing comes without a cost, and this time Sean is the one to pay it. And our girl Lou is ready to burn the world down for her man. And if you're a fan of unhinged and stabby FMCs like I am, let's just say Lou is EVERYTHING.
Get fucked, bitch,” he groans into his olive-green mesh mask.
Well, that’s not nice. “Did plenty of that last time I was here, Pomeranian.”
“What?” he snaps with a groan while reaching for the knife at his thigh as if I wouldn’t notice.
“My apologies, I thought we were naming types of dogs.”

Sean really lets his sadistic side loose in this installment and I was here for it. This man is deliciously unhinged in his own right. And let's just say his tastes run on the darker side of the spectrum and it was DELICIOUS.
Lick it. I know you missed it.”

I mean...
Don’t forget to scream, Lou,” I remind her... And she fucking does.

These two were explosive together. If there's one thing I love about a black cat FMC, is when her man is a doberman. And Sean and Louhi were unstoppable together. And their chemistry? Incendiary.
In Sean’s darkness, I’ve found my light.

We also get so much more of Honey Eyes, and if ever a secondary character steals a show, it's him. I loved him so much.

But for as many answers as we get in this book, there's also plenty that are left and did I have a mild tantrum when I realized that when I got to the end? Absolutely. Especially after BH Eastwood absolutely slayed me with some of the plot twists at the end. I AM NOT OKAY. But the good news is, we get more in this world. Because if we didn't and that was the ending, I'd be sharpening my pitchfork as we speak.

If you're a fan of dark romance with unhinged FMC and MMCs with plenty of action and all the steam, look no further!

The way I was ITCHING to dive into this book after finishing Enemy of the State… and it was so worth the wait because I had the absolute BEST time being back with Lou, Sean, and Jace!

These morally black, completely unhinged characters with the best sense of humor are some of my favorites, and I can’t help but smile when I’m with them!

…But don’t get it twisted, Bryn definitely put me through some shit in this one because I teared up at least twice when I was NOT expecting it😭

I absolutely loved that this picked up right where book one left off and it felt like I never even left this world! I was immediately thrown back into the chaos with these characters I had grown so attached to!!

I also loved the different dynamic in this one, with Lou coming in to save Sean! That typical possessive energy we love from the MMC is still very much there, but now we’re also getting it from the Lou, and I LOVED that!!! Give me two unhinged, possessive characters who are quite literally perfect for each other any day! They match each other’s energy so well, and I just adore them😭🖤

I also loved getting so much more of the side characters, especially Jace and Mercer! After the way EOTS ended, I was sitting there wondering, how the hell is he ever going to get back into the picture?! But Bryn handled it SO well that I genuinely couldn’t think of a better way to bring him back into the story! And thank god because I love honey eyes so damn much haha

And let’s NOT forget my love for Sean, because this man’s level of unhinged is hot as hell, and that dirty mouth of his 🥵 I mean, do I think I could actually handle what he puts down like Lou? Absolutely fucking not 😂 But that doesn’t make me love him any less haha

I honestly think this was the perfect conclusion to their story while still leaving the door open for more of these side characters and this world and I cannot WAIT to see what comes next!!

I need you guys to please pick up Enemy of the State and immediately dive into Enemy of the Heart!! You are truly missing out if you haven’t met these characters yet!

Like theres truly not many words to describe my love for this duet. The unexpected friendships along the way, the growth but added heartbreak. This is everything I want when reading a dark romance.

The specific heartbreak at the end will stick with me 3 but im so glad we got a happily ever after everything they’ve been through. Also their ceremony…? :0 From the start of book one you would never expect they end up here. It’s truly such a relief. These characters have such a special place in my heart. So glad to own the physicals because I don’t plan to let these go.

Thank you to this author for creating such a beautiful story.

✨WELCOME BACK TO EX-I✨

BRYN. My dear. What did you put in this duet!? I couldn’t put it down! Talk about a delicious end to the most perfect duet! 😍 I loved every single page! Watching Sean and Lou fall oh so hard together? And the action!? Oh and the oh so deliciously perfect spice!? Good lord.

Sean. I absolutely love this man. Obsessed is an understatement when it comes to Sean and Lou. He loves so dang hard and watching him do literally anything for Lou was oh so precious.

Louhi. My badass girl. I have never giggled more with a female character and i loved every single second of it. 🤭 This girl is a badass with a gun and a sense of humor and i lover her for it.

The spice between these two will live rent MF free. I will say i will never look at a pair of pliers the same way again. IYKYK 🤭

And last but not least. My sweet sweet Honey Eyes. Oh my god. Talk about a man stealing my heart. This man became the third wheel so fast and he loved every second about it. This little family will always have my heart.

What a fitting second half to Enemy of the State. This is such a slept-on duet!

I fell HARD for Sean and Lou in Enemy of the State, and that love definitely continued into Enemy of My Heart. Their chemistry is INSANE, and I loved these two so much.

We pick up right where we left off after they escape the prison where Lou was being tortured. I won’t spoil anything, but if you thought things were going to be smooth sailing after that… LOL, think again. There is just as much action and stress as in book one. Except this time there are TEARS. YEAH!!!

Also, getting a few new characters in this one was chef’s kiss, and more honey eyes, my baby boy.

If you’re looking for a dark romance with two extremely twisted and complex main characters who will keep you on your toes and have you stressing the entire time, plus an absolute BADASS FMC (I love Lou so much), this is the duet for you. Oh, and did I mention the ACTION...

Andddd I’ve found a new fav author 🤭 I am literally obsessed with everything about this duet!! Louhi and Sean were absolute perfection and I never wanted their story to end! Their entire dynamic was wild and oh so hot 🫠 From their meet cute(is it considered a meet cute if he’s brought in to torture her? Lou would say yes 🙂‍↕️) in Enemy of the State to the pliers spice scene(yup you read that right 😈) in Enemy of the Heart, they kept me on my toes. One second I could be sweating from the spice then the next I’m cackling at their banter or Lou’s inner monologue and the next I’m damn near sobbing… because wtf B.H. Eastwood 😭😭😭 I will never recover.
Also, Honey Eyes 🥹🥹 that man!! I hope he gets a book… or two 🤭
Okay excuse me while I go order my shelf trophies because I love them that much 😌

“But there’s nothing that could keep me from reaching Sean now. Not the ocean. Not gunpowder. Not even death.”

“I’m wholly annihilated. Sean infiltrates every cell of my body, our connection sparking to life, sating the vicious-tongued beast within me.”

“She owns me, and I’m just fucking fine with having her invisible leash wrapped around my neck.”

💬 The absolute PERFECT ending to Sean and Lou’s story. I will never forget their story. I’m also really hoping for some spin off books with the many amazing side characters we got to meet *wink wink*. This duet is true enemies to lovers, assas1ns, military, imprisonment, t0rture, sad1sm, BD3M, Bratva, Finnish mythology and so much more fun. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

I am so down bad for Sean and Louhi istg. These two are honestly two of my top favorite MC’s of all time and I will take absolutely ZEROOOOO criticism for them or their books, tysm.

We pick up right where book 1 left off. The prologue was unexpected but amazing and gave us some Easter eggs for the rest of the book. The way Bryn handles her characters and their stories is just chefs kiss.

We get to hear from Sean, Lou, and our boy Honey Eyes and honestly I loved every single second. The spice in this book is honestly next level. You thought Sean was a dirty talker in book 1? He ups his game in book 2. And honestly, Bryn may be one of the best at writing a dirty talking MMC.

The plot is top tier. We get twists and turns and the unexpected. I was on the edge of my seat the entire book. I thought I knew which way it would go and then BAM. Plot twist outta nowhere. Which is fine because who doesn’t love whiplash and a good crying sesh? Ya know?

Anyways. My rating:
