A lifelong reader, dreamer, and avid science fiction fan, Logan Thomas Snyder began his journey as an independent author in August 2013. Since then he has written a number of books and shorts, including Between Kings and Carnage, VIOLET, The Lazarus Particle, and more.
Logan's stories can also be found in popular anthologies such as ALT.HISTORY 101, The A.I. Chronicles, The Powers That Be, and WOOL Gathering. He can be contacted through his website, LoganThomasSnyder.com, as well as Facebook and Twitter.
Logan Thomas Snyder is ahead of the game. That is to say, one day there is a good chance we may be doing exactly what Tom and Violet do in Beyond Violet -- stretching the idea of what it means to be human or machine and entrusting our consciousness to a hard drive on a server somewhere or in the cloud. Throughout his Violet series, Snyder has shown a willingness to grow his characters. In the beginning Tom was a typical guy, but by the end, him and the love of his life, Violet, are risking everything to save the future. In the end, they are given a daughter they never knew they had, and a love for her they never knew they had. They find surprises in every facet of their lives and in the end, its the little things in their lives that make the choices they make all the more difficult. I found myself loving the payoff in Beyond Violet and my emotions found themselves touched in the process. This may be the end for the series, but I could see Snyder building on the world he's crafted in new and different ways. Well done -- I look forward to see what Snyder has for us next.
Just... Bad. The premise is SO amazing!! Which is what kept me reading til the fifth installment. And they're mercifully short reads! But I couldn't go on any longer. Completely unbelievable dialogue, but more annoyingly, it's what I call "Santa Claus Sci Fi". No explanation of the actual science, it just "works because they say so".
Worse, I found this author via an anthology called "The A.I. Chronicles", and a story based in this authors "VioletVerse". THAT story (which I'm guessing was pro edited) was so good that I stopped reading the anthology to IMMEDIATELY buy and read the rest of the Violet "singles". At 2am, no less! I NEVER do that. The story is really that good.
But these... With some more depth, more detail of the science, and a few revisions, they could be amazing!! As they stand... Well. If you've got spare time to kill, you're not super picky, and you can easily suspend disbelief, give them a shot. Volumes 1 through 3 are kinda almost okay.
