I have always lived in the deep south, Arkansas, and grew up in a very rural area. Some of that you will see that I have incorporated into my books. I like the small town and rural area feel of things. I am married to a wonderful husband and have four fantastic kids and two rambunctious dogs. My days are busy and hectic because I am a stay-at-home mom, but I love it! Writing is just one of the things I am passionate about! I also love to read and have always enjoyed art.

What I write: a little bit of everything. I love writing about vampires, mafia families, magic, and more! My favorite is writing strong female characters!

Intriguing! 3.5 Stars . . .

Cain, The Immortal: The Beginning by Bree Pierce is a novella meant to set the stage for the main book, Cain, The Immortal: Immortal Souls. It is told from Cain's point-of-view in a mixture of past and present tense. Overall, it's a flashback, beginning with the first Biblical family and, of course, the first murder. Cain wanders the earth feeling never-ending remorse for killing his brother, Abel, in a fit of blind rage.

I happen to really like short stories, so I've no complaints about that, and the price is certainly unbeatable at $0.00. I was intrigued, and it kept my interest long enough for me to finish it. I've already ordered the main book, so it's difficult to say if I would read it otherwise. Maybe. Maybe not.

Honestly, I didn't like the slips between past-tense narration and present-tense narration. The editing was decent, but I feel like it could do with a once-over by one more editor. I also felt like Cain sounded like a resentful teenager, more than a wise immortal who had been around quite long enough to speak with maturity.

That said, I truly didn't hate it or even dislike it. I'm hopeful that the subsequent book may be a bit more refined on these points. The concept of Cain be paired with the type of immortal being he described at the end is very unique, and I award massive points to the author for creativity!

Overall, 3.5 stars . . . Which I can't rate as such . . . I'm throwing in the extra half star because I appreciate the entertainment value, and there's every chance that Cain, The Immortal: Immortal Souls won't have the drawbacks I felt were extant here.

I was lucky enough to get this early from the author and want to leave a review. When this is released, RUN to buy it!! I can't say a lot due to spoilers. ( Said in my best River Song voice, Doctor Who reference. )You will have sympathy for Cain from the beginning. I didn't think I would but I was so wrong. Done in Bree Pierce's hand, there is sympathy for a man I so wanted to hate. But I cried for and with him. She shows a different take on Cain from Cain and Abel. So when this is released, buy it, grab a cup of hot tea and lose yourself in the story. Keep the tissues handy. Oh, your welcome.

Really enjoyed this! It was a short story and had an element of history and religion to it as the name suggests. It's not something I'd usually read but it was quite fascinating.. Will need to do some googling now. Looking forward to what's next..

Cain goes back to the beginning of Adam and Eve with Cain and Able. Cain was cursed for killing Able and has to live his life as an immortal. Great way to start the series.

This is a really cool story! Most people know the story of Cain and Able but this is told from Cain's point of view. The Beginning tells the story of Cain's life and brings you right up to modern day. The author does a great job of covering so many hundreds of years in a short story that does not drag at any part (which it totally could when trying to tell someone's life story that spans such a great amount of time. The author is also able to give the reader sympathy for Cain and gain a whole new understanding to what lead him to what he did and why he is this way now. This was a quick read and very enjoyable. I look forward to the rest of the series.

Great prequel. It's fast paced, but not rushed. You get a good background into who Cain is and why he's the way he is. You experience alot of emotions in this short read. I feel the author has grown more in the story compared to previous work and I love it! Can't wait for more.

I recommend this short story to get readers introduced the Cain. There is a longer story out that pulls you into Cains world. Grab this story, ( it is FREE so why not ) and become involved with Cain. Bree Pierces writing is excellent and will bring you back for more of her works.

A 3 rating because it really doesn't work as a short story. But a 4 rating as a prequel, because it left me wanting more. But there's just too big a jump in the timeline that could have been explored. I'll assume that will be done in flashbacks in the series.
