Full disclosure: I am a friend of a friend of the author, although I've never met him. I got this book free through an Amazon Kindle promotion.

This was an entertaining freshman novel. it was fast and easy to read and I loved the world building. The author has definitely thought everything out and planned his characters' respective journeys through the world.

The character development was a bit lacking unfortunately. I'm not clear on what anyone looked like, and they seemed to fall into basic archetypes ie wise wizard (astrolord), the chosen child, the Scottish dwarf, the evil and dark elves. The dialog suffers a bit because of this, especially when other characters are talking to Lily (main protagonist, and only 10 years old).

This is made up for with some awesome action scenes. The hand to hand combat and a battle scene later on are very well thought out and executed. They end up being very gory and exciting.

The mythology and magic is interesting. There are dragons and astromancy, and that's all I'm saying!

My favorite characters were Soren and the elf quartermaster (whose name escapes me at the moment).

What a World

Great story, great characters! The ending was perfect! I didn't see a few of those plot twists coming at all! And I can't wait to see what happens next!

I loved it, but then again I wrote it. Read it yourself, I can't be un-biased.
