A wonderful and unique look at counting and friendship. This very simple picture book is about two friends, Sue and Nick, who like very different things but are still best friends. They introduce us to all their favourite things from one boy called Nick and one girl called Sue to ten cakes for tea, and then all the way back down to one yellow moon shining in the night sky. The artwork is stunning with each artist contributing alternate pages in their own inimitable style. The deceptively simple text is perfect for children learning to read.

About the author

Nick Sharratt is the author-illustrator of numerous books for children, including The Foggy, Foggy Forest and Dinosaurs’ Day Out.
He grew up in Suffolk, Nottinghamshire and Manchester, with his four siblings. He attended Manchester Polytechnic (now called Manchester Metropolitan University) where he completed an art foundation course. He was trained in graphic design at St. Martin's School of Art and took his later inspiration from the pop and graphic art of the 1960s, which he experienced as a child.
He lives in Brighton, England.

One to Ten and Back Again is about two best friends, Nick and Sue. Nick and Sue join us throughout the book counting the numbers up to ten and back down to one again. The numbers are represented by many different objects from clothing, to animals, to food. It's a very good book because it starts off counting the numbers in rhymes and there are so many adjectives that children can learn. I like how there were alot of colours, objects, animals and clothing that children can learn about, not only for their knowlwdge and understanding of the world but also when they want to tell a story. It can help their imagination. I also like at the end of the book, there is like a summary with the numbers and objects next to it. However, i thought the book could have had rhyming as the book was counting down back again from ten to one. I thought consistent rhyming would help the children better. Overall i think this book would be very good to learn numbers up to ten for children. It is very visual and colourful, the children will be engaged as they read the book with the rhymes. I think it will also contribute to the enhancement of their imagination.

This is my son, Lukes' favourite book. I have been reading it twice daily for almost a year and he still loves it! Well it's mainly pictures, with a bit of counting (Sue has two shiny shoes etc). He loves the page with the 8 fish in the sea. It has thick cardboard pages which he can turn himself. I have just bought their colours book, and can't recommend their books highly enough! Guess what all his friends will be getting for Christmas this year!!
