Which would be a lot more convincing if she didn't also want to take her clothes off.
Cam is the grumpy, intimidating captain of the Fashion City Fangs. Harper is a possibly grumpier micro-influencer who knows absolutely nothing about basketball and has somehow decided that annoying Cam counts as a hobby.
They bicker. They glare. They flirt exclusively by accident.
And then Harper discovers that being told what to do is significantly more appealing when Cam is the one doing the telling.
This is getting out of hand.
Unfortunately, underneath all that mutual irritation is an even bigger problem: Harper is proudly bisexual and refuses to be anyone's secret. Cam is out to the people she loves, but coming out to the entire world?
She'd rather play an entire season with a sprained ankle.
Neither of them is going to fall in love.
Obviously.
They don't even like each other.
GAMEBREAKER is a steamy sapphic sports romance featuring true enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine, an agonizing slow burn, D/s dynamics, found family, weaponized banter, and two women discovering that I hate you and please take your clothes off are dangerously easy to confuse.
Nora Fares lives in Southern California with her family and her cat, Caspian, who insists he’s the real writer. She splits her time between gaming and writing heartbreaking stories in very pretty prose, where characters have to crawl through emotional glass for their happy endings. A proud member of the LGBT+ community, she’s now focused on giving those hard‑won happy endings to the gays—because someone has to.
after reading the masterpiece of Honeyfires I NEED THIS. wnba player x bratty micro influencer, grumpy x grumpier, enemies to lovers!!! i am so sat 🧎♀️
Enemies to lovers. Basketball. A little spice. A whole lot of sass. And an HEA.
Obviously, I was in. 😂❤️
Gamebreaker is a sapphic enemies-to-lovers romance wrapped around a coming-out story that is tender, raw, and at times absolutely gut wrenching.
One of the things I love about Nora Fares is her witty banter. Her characters come to life through dialogue that feels authentic, and the back-and-forth has just the right amount of bite. These women know how to push each other’s buttons, and I was more than happy to sit back and watch them do it. 😂🔥
But underneath the banter, basketball, and chemistry is a story that hurts.
For anyone who has come out to a family that wasn’t supportive, there is a particular kind of pain in these pages that may feel painfully familiar.
It’s the crumbling of your foundation and your sense of safety.
The bleak loneliness that threatens to swallow you when the people who said they would always, no matter what, love you suddenly add an unspoken condition:
Unless you’re gay.
That one hurts. ❤️🩹
Fares doesn’t shy away from what happens when religion is weaponized and used as justification to shame someone you’re supposed to love. Or the psychological toll of being terrified to tell the truth about who you are because that truth might cost you everything — Living a lie is slowly crushing you. But choosing to live authentically might blow up your entire world.
That fear, pressure, loneliness, and desperate need to simply be loved for exactly who you are give Gamebreaker an emotional weight I wasn’t expecting.
And Fares is damn good at anchoring you in it.
She creates these larger-than-life characters but somehow makes their fear, vulnerability, humor, and desire incredibly relatable. There are moments that are sweet and tender, others that are sexy as hell, and then there are moments that just hurt. 😭❤️🩹
⚠️ This book does come with content warnings, and I recommend giving them the attention they deserve if you have triggers. Some of the family and religious rejection is heavy.
But Gamebreaker is also about what can exist on the other side of all that fear.
Love. ❤️ Chosen family. 🌈 Living authentically. And finding someone who sees exactly who you are and doesn’t ask you to be anything less.
Add in a little spice 🌶️, a lot of sass 😂, basketball 🏀, enemies-to-lovers tension ❤️🔥, and an HEA…
Cam and Harper are frustrating and wonderfully chaotic. Yes, things get intense right away. Hostility at their first meeting—seemingly without cause—sets the tone for every encounter between Cam and Harper. Harper is certain Cam hates her. But why? She has no idea! She’s someone who voices her opinions loud and proud; she searches online for answers on Cam’s Instagram and is surprised by what she finds. Accused of being superficial, yet seeing *this* side of her? What’s going on here? Cameron Russo is the captain of the Fashion City Fangs basketball team—tall, handsome and with a big ego. Or so it seems. She is distant and quick to judge someone who, during one of her best games, is just looking at their phone instead of the court. How is that possible? And why is someone like that so incredibly good-looking—especially when she isn't supposed to notice or feel anything like that? It all seems like an impossible hurdle; they can’t stand each other and can barely last five minutes in the same room without verbally sparring. On the surface, they seem too different. But there is hidden depth—depth that only reveals itself after a major mistake is made and someone realizes a line has been crossed. I won’t give any more spoilers, but there is definitely far more depth, emotion, struggle, fear, regret, and self-discovery in this story than I initially expected. The physical element turns it into an incredibly explosive slow-burn romance. It’s slow-burn, but I really thought from the second chapter that they should kiss already! They have no choice but to get closer, yet obstacles stand in their way—and there’s seemingly something at stake that could break the game. Pun intended! At times, the back-and-forth felt a bit excessive—a little too much holding back, even though I understood the reasons why. Nevertheless, I love their chemistry! Their attraction is off the chart's. Thanks to Nora Fares for the ARC. I enjoyed this story very much!
Thank you to the author, Nora Fares, for the ARC of Gamebreaker. As a fan of the WNBA, this was an automatic add to my TBR and I’m so lucky to have gotten the opportunity to read it early!
Gamebreaker is a sapphic, enemies to lovers sports roma. nce that follows our two main characters: Cameron Russo and Harper DuBose.
Cameron is an all star basketball player making her way to fame in the WNBA as #4 on the Fashion City Fangs and she wants everyone to take notice. So, seeing a woman on the sidelines blatantly staring at her phone during one of her best games of the season was as infuriating as it gets for Cameron. The two are introduced in the tunnel after the game, and yeah, that woman, Harper, a self-proclaimed Instagram micro influencer, is as infuriating as she thought. And yet, Cameron can’t get Harper out of her mind.
However, Harper is an out-and-proud bisexual woman, while Cameron still hides her sexuality. Cameron just believes she has too much to lose if she becomes the “gay basketball player”, like endorsement deals and fans. Well, this doesn’t match with Harper’s lifestyle of open and proud of who she is, but somehow Harper still finds herself daydreaming of Cameron.
Wow, this book has it all. From the witty banter to enemies to lovers turned bratty sub/broody dominant dynamic, this book gives enough heat and passion to make you fall in love with the two characters and their budding relationship. Gamebreaker is a heartfelt story of what the price is to stay closeted or learning to be brave enough to come out. I never wanted this story to end. Nora did such an amazing job writing Cameron’s story in a real and raw way.

Thank you for sending me the ARC of Gamebreaker. 🫶🏼✨
WLW look no further! A new sportsromance is coming soon. This book took me through ALL the emotions. I was laughing, tearing up, swooning and very much invested.
The author did such a beautiful job with Cam and Harper. These two women were both so stubborn that I definitely yelled at my book more than once but I could not stop reading. Their banter and sarcasm had me giggling while the intimate moments had me very much swooning.
What I loved most was how unpredictable the story was. You know the usual romance formula: first you get the longing, then the everything is perfect phase, suddenly everything falls apart and then everything works out nicely in the end? Gamebreaker basically said no thank you. I never knew what was coming next and it kept me completely hooked.
I also absolutely devoured this book. The way it was written sucked me in that I’d look up and realize I’d been reading for hours. The dual POV worked really well too, especially getting to see what both of them were thinking and feeling, even when neither of them seemed capable of having a sensible thought. They were total idiots about each other and I loved that.
The ARC warned me that I would be screaming “JUST KISS ALREADY” and it was absolutely right. I did. Repeatedly. And when it finally happened? Oh god. It happened.
Such a fun, emotional and unpredictable read. I loved this one!
I had the joy of getting the ARC for Gamebreaker. It is always so refreshing to find a sapphic (especially romance) book that doesn't feel like it's written for men, and this was that breath of fresh air. I requested this ARC after I read Honeyfires and loved the way that book felt as a sapphic reader -- authentic, and Gamebreaker felt the same way.
It was spectacularly easy to fall in love with Harper and Cam-- I particularly liked that we got POVs from both characters. While I don't typically love a coming out story so prominate in a book; I generally feel that coming out has been explored at nauseum and we can have stories that don't revolve around it, the way this one was handled was with care, and having Cam's POV really helped with that. The yearning that is established throughout the whole book is absolutely delectable. It's not just spice, and the establishment of healthy boundaries with follow through were such perks to me. Occasionally some of the dialogue (internal and external) gets a little repetitive but nothing that takes the reader out of the story.
Overall I would reccomend Gamebreaker to any sports romance reader - especially if that sports romance reader is sapphic themselves. The cast of characters is diverse and it is easy to see pieces of yourself in the story. It was exactly what I wanted and garnered that 4 star rating ( for reference 1 star = DNF and 5 stars = most perfect book I've ever read, no notes)
This was such a fun enemies to lovers sapphic sports romance! Harper and Cam had me laughing from the very beginning because the banter between these two was SO good. They absolutely could not stand each other, but the chemistry was there underneath all that irritation and neither of them was fooling anyone. 😜
Harper is an out & proud bisexual, and unapologetically herself, even though coming out cost her relationships with people she loved. Cam, on the other hand, is a lesbian who isn't ready to be publicly out. She's scared of what being open about who she is could cost her, especially when it comes to her basketball career, fans, and brand deals.
I really loved that this wasn't just about their romance. There was so much emotion surrounding being able to live authentically, the fear of losing people, and the different ways Harper and Cam approached being out. Their struggles felt very different, but both were understandable.
Now let's talk chemistry??? 👀🔥 These two spent so much time fighting their attraction, and watching that wall slowly come down was SO satisfying. I also really appreciated that the story didn't magically make their differences disappear just because they had feelings for each other. There were some genuinely painful moments where they had to acknowledge that love doesn't always mean you're ready for the same things at the same time.
The banter, the tension, the yearning, the emotional growth... Nora Fares really gave me a lot to chew on with this one.
If you're a fan of sapphic romance, enemies-to-lovers, sports romance, forced proximity-ish tension, hilarious banter, and two women trying to figure out what they're willing to risk for love, definitely keep GameBreaker on your radar.
This one comes out in November, so add it to that TBR! 🏀💗
I was blessed with receiving an ARC of this book. The first word that comes to mind to describe this book is TENSION! You can literally feel the yearning and heated tension between the characters. Let me just say, I want to be lifted up and placed on the counter too Harper🔥 The banter throughout this book was hilarious. This is my first sapphic sports romance and let me just say the bar is set HIGH from now on. I’ve read one other book from this author and I can guarantee when she comes out with more releases I’ll definitely be reading them.
I cried a couple of times because of knowing how hard it is to be out and live honestly. It takes a lot for someone to accept what may or may not change in their life but it’s worth it to live their authentic self. Cam and Harper both had different reactions to them coming out but they both had a great support system and at the end of the day that is what matters most.
The only thing I would have liked more of was Cam’s dominant side. It made it seem like there was a lot more to her dom persona than what was given. It fell a little flat for me.
Regardless of that, this book was amazingly written and I can’t wait to read more of this world when the author releases her next installment.
When I first heard about this story, I was so excited. As someone dating another woman that plays basketball, I couldn’t wait to fall into the world of Cam and Harper.
With that being said, I really wanted to enjoy it, but I feel like there are a few things that I can’t get behind. The banter and arguments between the two MCs were childish and irrelevant. The spicy scenes were cringe and repetitive. Additionally, I did not feel the connection between the two. Their friends intervened way too much. These characters don’t even act like they are in their late 20s. My toes curled in embarrassment as I read through some of these scenes. The WNBA is one of the gayest leagues in the world. I don’t see how a character who is masculine-presenting is closeted in the WNBA. I can understand privacy, but I don’t quite understand where this comes from. It almost feels like there was not much research done for this portion.
Overall, I appreciate the opportunity to read this ARC, but it missed several marks for me!

The spice. The sassiness. The angst. I couldn’t put it down or get enough of it. Harper and Cam are such an unconventional duo at first, but the way they come together knew how to pull at the heart strings just in the right places. I was giggling, kicking my feet, and couldn’t wait for more! I still think about the fact that their transportation app is called SHAU4. It’s had me giggling for over a month.
The banter and the spice come together so well, easily one of my favorite books of the year. The way the two MC’s despised each other in the beginning.. the slow burn. I could feel it all. It was both heart wrenching and so intriguing all at once. I couldn’t stop reading at any point. Nora Fares knows how to keep her readers involved and entertained at all times and that’s what makes this such a good, powerful read.
I can easily see myself reading this again and again and again. After Honeyfires, I knew I had to get my hands on Gamebreaker and I was NOT disappointed! 💜
Gamebreaker by Nora Fares follows the story of Harper, a micro influencer, and Cam, a big shot basketball star. Written as a dual POV of the main characters, joining them as they navigate coming out and the repercussions of doing that under the microscope of the public and the effects it can have on your relationships.
Nora did a beautiful job telling the story of Cam and Harper. While I probably yelled at my book more than I should have because of the sheer stubbornness of both of the FMC’s, I couldn’t stop reading. The witty banter and sarcasm between the two had me giggling, the intimate moments had me swooning (I think at one point I just said “YESSSSS”), and while there were a couple parts of the book that felt a little repetitive, this was such a fun book and I feel so very fortunate to be one of the first to get my hands on this. My only request? I would love to get a story on Mia and Laine.
I enjoyed the banter between the two MC’s although I felt like they fell for each other before they had any actual honest conversations but that happens a lot with sapphic stories. Also, the time line spanned 6 months but felt like maybe 1 month because it was the end of the WNBA regular season but ended during play-offs which don’t take 6 months.
I overall enjoyed the story itself, the characters felt flushed out and had real and relatable issues. The conundrum that Cam was in was/is very prevalent in the LGBTQIA community and I felt for her every time she was presented with the need to address the problem. (Trying to not give out spoilers) I also enjoyed Harper’s resolve to stay open and honest with herself despite the attraction she has with Cam.
I’d recommend this book but with the caveat to take the timeline and quick development of feeling with a grain of salt.
- Witty dialog - Light D/s dynamics - Great tension building
The tension build up is fantastic. The tension being broken had me mentally throwing my book at the author while simultaneously commending her for eliciting such a strong response from me.
The book has a significant amount of dialog which I love to see. Many books go so heavily into internal dialogue that I lose track of what the characters have actually said. This book does not do that. Instead it has long back and forth that is easy to follow and is delightfully intelligent and entertaining. I am incredibly fond of the way the author structures language
I have read a lot of spice. It is well written. It is on the less intense side as far as D/s dynamics go. So depending on what you are looking for, this is good information to have.
Overall. This is a well written book and I can say with confidence that this author will be in my list of writers whose works I will return to.
3.5/5 🌟 LOVED this artwork-- it's what pulled me into wanting to dive into Cam & Harper's world! Being an ARC for this book was such an honor, especially for an up & coming author. 🫶🏼 I loved the premise as well, but unfortunately, a large portion of this book was repetitive and dragged on. The phrase "in the way that..." tended to take me out of what was going on in the story because of it being a bit overused (definitely personal opinion!). I would have loved for there to be a bit more depth to the development of the characters and relationship, as it seemed that the main issues were recycled, in a way, throughout the length of the book. I do appreciate the emotional aspect and exploring the inner turmoil of Cam's mind, especially with her being a professional athlete with rigid routine and aiming for a certain direction in her life. Overall, would love to see more characters and stories from this author (already started Honey fires), but just a little more fleshed out!
This book put me through all of the emotions. I was laughing, tearing up, turned on, and happy. This book is a roller coaster; take the stereotypical outline of most romance books - first 30% tension building, next 30% honeymoon phase, somewhere from 70 - 80% you get the big blow up, then the rest is sunshine and rainbows HEA. This book throws all of that out the window. You never knew what was coming next and it was amazing! I devoured this book way faster than expected. It's one of those books where the world building sucks you in and you get lost in it and lose track of time. The dual POV works perfectly in making you feel exactly what the characters are going through and their thought process (or lack of it) in situations and tension. In the ARC there was a disclaimer that you will be screaming “JUST KISS ALREADY” and I definitely did and when it happened oh god it happened
This is the story of a 5’4” chaos bisexual and a 6’3” closeted lesbian going toe to toe with barbs and insults that had me oohing and ahhing like it was a title fight.
Despite this, Harper and Cam find themselves hopelessly attracted to each other, separated only by the fear Cam has of coming out while the Captain of her WNBA team.
It’s heartbreaking to watch Cam struggle with her fears of leaving the closet, faced with the choice of either losing the career she has spent 12 years building, or once again losing a woman she is hopelessly attracted to.
There are a few spicy sections, featuring a D/S dynamic that is fun.
Overall the best parts of this book is the dialogue between Cam and Harper, the harsh, the teasing, the loving, it’s a true highlight.
I got an ARC of this book, and honestly, I absolutely loved it. But it's the kind of love where I also wanted to immediately throttle both main characters.
Harper and Cam have the best fast-paced, witty banter. It’s so much fun to read, even while you’re screaming, “WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME?! YOU OBVIOUSLY LIKE EACH OTHER.”
I spent half the time incredibly emotional, another chunk pure frustrated with these two knuckleheads, and the rest just completely obsessed with their strength, compassion, and chemistry. Something about their dynamic completely hooked me. They had me laughing, stressing, swooning, and wondering why I do this to myself. I seriously wish I could wipe my memory and read this again for the first time.
Another wonderfully written sapphic love affair from Miss Fares.
I got an ARC for this book, and I was excited for this as a fellow basketball player. I even took a day off to complete this book in one sitting, but I honestly could not. Why? Because in the beginning Harper and Cam, and their little comebacks with each other made me giggle in my sit, that I was ready to just let them go in one day. It was hard to put the copy down. I am not a fan of slow burn, but this.. I have accepted this fully and understood it well. Nora did so great into playing both the roles, having them come to life, accepting and understanding boundaries. That was the ultimatum that got this book a full respect. I love it, I love her previous sapphic book, but this one, is staying a little closer to my heart. Thank you Nora for this, and I highly recommend everyone to dive in!
This book was absolutely amazing. I love how you get drawn into the book that gives you personal experiences and things you might have experienced in your own way. This book is a great reminder of not everyone is on the same page when it comes to coming out. That you don't know what the person is struggling with just to be able to live their own authentic life. There is no timeline and we might not always agree with someone's story. Coming out has no timeline but what you are comfortable with. Loved the spicy 🔥 scenes of course. The chemistry of Cam and Harper was out of this world. You get sucked in so quick and the whole time you yell: can y'all just get a room and get it on Jesus! But I wouldnt change the nail biting parts what's so ever. Nora has taken my #1 author spot. Thank you for letting the world read your art because it is so worth it.
Gamebreaker by Nora Fares is the story of Harper, an out and proud bisexual micro-influencer, and Cam, a closeted basketball superstar.
This may be a slow burn, but the witty banter, chemistry and tension between the MC heat up from the go & will quickly have you demanding they get a room already. Gamebreaker reminds us that coming out is a deeply personal experience, with no right or wrong timeline. Written as a dual POV, we can get into the heads of both MCs on their individual journey’s with coming out and the impact doing so can have on their lives.
There were a few parts of the book that felt a little repetitive, but it was so beautiful written that the repetition didn’t bother me very much. I’d love to see more on Isla & Trish and Mia and Laine.
I had so much fun with this book. Harper and Cam have instant chemistry that gives us (and their teammates) a big case of “oh, just kiss already!!!" But the reasons that keep them apart are real and understandable.
The path that they both take through their romance is lovely because both of them advocate for their own needs first. No one is being toxic and no one is being taken advantage of because these two women are smart and emotionally intelligent and care about each other. Their romance feels earned and appropriate.
While this book does deal with a coming out story and does acknowledge the challenges and negative voices that exist, the love and support is celebrated loudly and plainly on the page. I cried at several beautiful moments.
Nothing but love for this book and I can't wait for the next one in the series!
Firstly, thank you to the author Nora Fares for the ARC!
Secondly and most important, wow what a great book! It has been a while since a book has had me kicking my feet and giggling. The writing is amazing, their relationship is so true and raw it hurts in the best ways. I think most (if not all) sapphics have been in Harper's shoes, so it makes you connect more deeply with the story.
The enemies-to-lovers sequence? 10/10, I dislike when they are already lovers by 20% or when it takes to long and you dont get to enjoy the lovers part. Nora Fares in this book just delivers the sweetest happy medium! I'm so excited that I discovered her sapphic books and I'm wishing for more to come my way. I can't wait until y'all get your hands on this beautifuly crafted book, I hope you love it as much as I did🤍
This book was absolutely amazing! For the first half of the book I spent doing nothing but laughing my patootie off with how Harper and Cam interacted with each other. I wanted every interaction to end with a kiss and was disappointed each time (which made the experience even better)! Both characters were absolutely lovable and equally dumb in their own ways, that sometimes I just wanted to smack them upside the head. The chemistry was in itself like a fireworks display, bright and so much fun! Much to my husband’s chagrin, I was unable to put this book down for even a second. Once I started it, there was no way for me to stop. I am truly grateful to have been part of the ARC Review team! 😆
First thank you to the author for trusting me with your book.
Now for my review, I could not put this book down! I loved this book and the all the characters, except Henry if you know you know. I enjoyed the pace of this book also and felt like I was able to get to know Cam and Harper individually. The spicy scenes were beautiful and well pace as well. I found the intimacy so compelling and the characters were so much more engaging than I expected them to be. The heartbreak I felt it to my core because I have had similar experiences. Definitely one of the best books I’ve read this year and I am so excited to get my hands on the physical copy.
First of all, thank you so much Nora for sending me the arc for Gamebreaker!
I really loved this book! The tension, the chemistry, the yearning… everything was SO GOOD you could literally feel all of it everytime they were arguing.
They both needed different things in a relationship, and seeing how they both understood and respected each other’s choices, even when it hurt them, was heartbreaking but so beautifully written!
Harper was so funny, I love her! She made me laugh way too much, and seeing Cam try so hard not to smile or laugh when she clearly wanted to was hilarious! I just loved them!
Gamebreaker - Nora Fares ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶 Out: November 1, 2026
Harper knows who she is. She lost everything but is living unapologetically as herself. Cam knows who she wants to be, but is scared to lose everything she's built. They hate each other. Or do they?
I loved Instagram and Captain Miserable in this book! Harper and Cam took accidentally in love to a whole new level and I loved reading their banter. And sometimes chosing love when it's scary is the bravest thing you can do.
If you are looking for the most authentic, heart wrenching coming out story, look no further. The banter is gold. The passion sizzling. The emotions genuine. And the representation of battling with holding onto who you've always HAD to be and choosing who you have always BEEN, is so realistic and beautifully written. This is a SLOW burn that will have you simultaneously kicking your feet and screaming at the characters to just kiss already. But the pay off is SO worth it. This story will sit in my head rent-free forever.
Oh. My. God. Genuinely SUCH a good book. Harper’s personality reminds me so much of myself. I was hooked from the first chapter literally. The only reason I didn’t finish this book in one day was because I quite literally fell asleep with it open. 100% will be purchasing this to have on my shelf. I’m so glad I was able to have the copy sent to me before it was released. I enjoyed that it had both POV’s so I got to experience both of them equally. Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes and this was a beautiful read.
This book is chefs kiss! The pining and yearning!! oh my god, it is unmatched. How do i even begin to explain Cam and Harper?? First of all, Cam is so hot. and the bratty, sassiness of Harper. I was screaming for them to JUST KISS ALREADY! I am so in love with them. It was so relatable to like real life coming out scenarios. But also being able to hold on to boundary, that you will not fold on. I’ve Nora Fares first book Honeyfires and it did not disappoint. THIS ONE IS EVERYTHING!! PLEASE READ IT. you will not be able to put it down!
I am completely obsessed with this book! Huge thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC ❤️!! I devoured this. The story pulled me in right from the very first page, but what truly stole the show for me was the banter. It was so sharp, witty, and natural—I found myself kicking my feet and laughing out loud through so much. The chemistry between the characters is just top-tier. Cam and Harper forever 🏀❤️
