"A gripping psychological drama on the inherent greed and evil of man, dooming the planet but also the realistic struggle of one woman stuck between two worlds." Kirkus Reviews

"A well-paced, interesting fantasy story with a female lead who is strong, not necessarily in a physical/aggressive man's definition of strong, but is able to deal with difficult situations intelligently, without resorting to violence. A refreshing change." Simon Wheeler, author of Happy Juice

"The author combines magic and mythology with aplomb while providing us with a unique allegory with its own distinct dialogue" John R. Dizon, author of Sxteamtown

Book 1, 'Call Off The Search':

The comyentis are different; beautiful and mysterious, possessing powers of which humans can only dream. And for this, they are hated, persecuted. For millennia, humanity has murdered and enslaved the peaceful comyentis wherever they find them. Jealous of their ability to merge their minds with animals to use their powers, to empathise with other beings on a deep spiritual level and even hear their thoughts, people sought them out and destroyed them.

Now the halfling Sula, one of the last survivors of her kind, lives in hiding. With not just her own life but her whole species' held precariously within her hands, she feels the weight of her responsibility. As loneliness and alienation slowly engulf her, an attractive young human enters her world and she is torn. Should Sula trust him? Can she afford not to? Will she be able to overcome her aversion to humans to save her species from extinction? A life as a wandering hermit, or risk everything for love?
Sula's life becomes further complicated when she meets another comyenti and is forced to make a decision. Follow her head or her heart?

Book 2, 'Children Of The Sun':

Halfling Sula: half-human, half-comyenti, who has supernatural empathetic powers to merge her mind with animals, is torn. Feline is still missing after her personal quest to confront the bigoted comyenti Shazar to learn more about the mysterious Heartmerge. Sula and Felix are desperately looking for her, but will they ever find out the truth about what really happened to Felix's twin sister and Shazar's involvement in this tragic event?

Twenty years later, powerful but milder Shazar, seems to be getting his own fair share of misery when his human mate, Ashanna, abruptly dies. He sets off to visit and reconnect with the other last of their kind, Sula. However, he is closely followed by Twello, his adopted human son who has his own secrets.
When they enter Rosinhill they soon discover that Shazar's iniquitous plan from twenty years ago has worked: Sula has born him a son: Aigle.
And with him new hope arises and a new different future for the comyentis is about to begin...
As tensions mount with Shazar's and Twello's arrival, which threaten the life Sula has built for Felix, herself and their children, a new danger enters their lives; much worse than Shazar could ever be. One that is about to engulf the comyentis and with that their new hope.
Who are these strange shape shifting creatures and what do they want from Sula and her children? Can the comyentis stop them before it's too late?

Who are the comyentis really, where do they come from, why are they on Bhan and what is their connection with their new found enemy?

*"The Comyenti's ability to borrow attributes from animals is inventive, but Hellenthal's writing is best when she explores personal relationships. She tackles what life might be like in a family where some members are gifted and others less so."
-Amazon reviewer.

*"Again another great read by an amazingly talented author."

This series is a treasure for lovers of fantasy, as it includes two novels: Call of the Search, and Children of the Sun. You’ll get carried away into a universe where magical creatures roam the land, adventure awaits, and romance will conquer all.

The protagonist, Sulla, is strong yet volunrable, so i was easily drawn to her and through her, the story of her race, the Comyenti. They are different: “Beautiful and mysterious, possessing powers of which humans can only dream. and for this, they are hated, persecuted.”

Five stars.

I have never met a heroine like Sula before -- the bold and mysterious half-human, half-comyenti who is the main character of the Comyenti Series. This is a magical story that transports the reader to a marvelous world of love and danger. I loved the author's descriptions of the unique talent that the Comnyenti possess of being able to mind meld with animals. Who wouldn't want that amazing skill? This is a wonderful story.

I found this series quite intriguing. Author Natasja Hellenthal has done a wonderful job of weaving her characters, who are a new species, through many predicaments. If you like adventure, romance, magic, and fantasy, you can't miss this series. Excellent well-written characters and interesting plots. I highly recommend!

Fresh off the author’s novel The Queen’s Curse, which I loved, I had high expectations for these two books. I’m glad I wasn’t disappointed. She’s definitely on my shortlist of new and emerging fantasy authors to keep a lookout for as regards future titles.

Much of the fun with these two books comes with being inside Sula’s head, the magic of her shapeshifting, and communing with animals and nature. But there is much drama beyond that with her fighting for her own survival, the survival of her species, and with dealing with overwhelming nefarious forces. There’s a youthful feel to the characters and to the narrator’s voice that will go over well with the YA audience, who I suspect will respond the strongest to these back to back novels. If you’re not convinced of that, see how readily the author handles the dynamic between Felix and Sula, which powers us through act one of the first book, and you’ll see what I mean.
