False Narratives: A Novel
The future is an unstoppable force. A looming eternity of unknowns.
Still, for Elena, that future once seemed simple. Keep narrating books while Cooper, her husband, continued writing bestsellers year after year. Cherish the life they'd built together. Savor every winter retreat in the Colorado mountains.
Then the man who helped build both their careers warns Elena that artificial intelligence is about to change the literary world forever. Soon readers will still be buying Cooper's books, but they won't be written by him.
She can help shape what comes next or stand by as her husband is erased by it.
Elena agrees to take part in a project she believes will protect the life she's built with Cooper. But the more she becomes involved, the more she has to hide, until almost every secret she keeps is another piece of him she's given away.
Set alongside the events of Fake Creativity, False Narratives reveals Elena's side of the story in this tense, intimate novel about love, a lifetime of choices, and the cost of trying to outrun the future.

False Narratives is mostly from Elena Owens' perspective. She's been having some doubts about their life and where it is headed. She often wonders if Cooper feels the same way.
She gets a call from her boss Alexander Graves. She narrates books for Aldrich International Publishing. Bringing her in under false pretenses, she soon finds out something that the Publishing house wants her to do to her husband and it does seem like a betrayal. She soon finds out that her decision has terrible consequences and may hurt the person she loves most.
Poor Elena, sometimes I disliked her and sometimes I felt how lost and guilt ridden she was. As the story unraveled, I enjoyed how unsettling things got. This book was much stronger and more developed than the first book and I feel like it is headed in the right direction, whatever that may be. I look forward to reading more books from the author.

This one took everything that was interesting and unsettling about Fake Creativity and made it darker, more emotional, and a lot more disturbing. The idea behind MUSE was already creepy, but this book really digs into what happens when technology starts crossing lines it probably never should have crossed in the first place.
Elena was such a complicated character for me because I felt bad for her so many times, especially with how much guilt she carried, but at the same time she still made choices she didn’t have to make. I understood why she made some of the decisions she did, and I understood what she was hoping would come from them, but there were still plenty of moments where I wanted to shake her and tell her to just tell the truth. That conflict made her feel very real though, because I could understand her while still being frustrated with her at the same time.
The second half of this book really took off for me. The more the story revealed, the more unsettling it became, and there were several moments where I just sat there thinking, what did I just read? It went way beyond being a story about AI and turned into something much more about control, privacy, trust, identity, and how far people are willing to go when they convince themselves the outcome will be worth it.
The ending was one of my favorite parts and left me sitting there thinking about it after I finished. I don’t want to say anything that could spoil it, but it was creepy, emotional, and just open-ended enough to make me wonder what happens next.
This one was definitely stronger than the first book for me. It was emotional, unsettling, frustrating, creepy, and at times much darker than I expected, but I could not stop reading. Five stars.
Thank you to the author for providing me an ARC.

I read Fake Creativity (book one) last year, which was from Cooper's perspective.
False Narratives gives so many more details to the story, what happened before, during, and after, and the part I was most excited for, Elena's perspective.
Book one left me with some questions, and False Narratives answered them all. Reading this book just made everything from Fake Creativity so much deeper, more emotional, and simply just crazier!
This book starts off fairly romance-focused, which was great because going into this one after book one, I didn't really love or understand Elena. It really focuses on the dynamic of Elena and Cooper's marriage and helps you understand her perspective. It really lets you see inside her head a little more, and although I didn't agree with all of her decisions (and sometimes wanted to yell at her a little bit), she did become a much more likable character.
She has to make a seemingly impossible decision and then watch as the consequences affect the person she loves more than anything else. She slowly unravels and goes a little crazy, but when the climax hit, I was NOT ready! It was a twist that I never expected!! Especially after book one!
This book took me on an emotional roller coaster. It dives into aspects of love, loss, addiction, regrets, and the way all of this can cause mental instability. At times, I wanted to scream at Elena, and other times, I felt so sorry for her.
It had me considering what choices I would make if I were in this situation and everything surrounding the future of society.
The ending of this series is so eerie and will leave you thinking for sure!

Thanks to the author, Blake, for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for a review. I am so glad you asked me to read this!
I read a book about technology and AI many years ago before AI was so well known and talked about regularly in households, and it scared me. I don’t remember the name of that book, but have always remembered how it made me feel.
This book has exacerbated that feeling exponentially now that AI is a real threat. This book is told from Elena’s perspective and is the second book in the series. I did not read the first, so I can say that this one works very well as a standalone. Elena is coerced into feeding the AI program “MUSE” information about her author husband, Cooper, so that the program can learn his thoughts and mannerisms and eventually write his books for him, faster than he can think them up and write them himself. As MUSE approaches 100% accuracy, doubts start to creep in for Elena.
I just can’t even wrap my head around the last 3 chapters or so. There is so much to AI that I don’t understand, but this story feels about as accurate as I could imagine, and that is just terrifying to me. I love that I didn’t get the ending I imagined, and honestly, the ending we are given will live in my brain for a very long time. I usually forget books shortly after I read them, but I won’t be forgetting this one!!

False Narratives takes us into a world of authors, narrators, artificial intelligence and the increasingly blurry line between what is real and what has been created.
I’ll admit, this one took me a little while to get into.
At the beginning, I wasn’t completely hooked. I kept reading because the concept interested me, but I was definitely waiting for that moment where everything would finally click.
And then it did.
Somewhere along the way I went from “okay, let’s see where this goes…” to “well, now I can’t bloody stop.” 😂
Once the pieces started falling into place, I became much more invested. There were secrets I wanted answers to, decisions I desperately wanted to understand and plenty of moments where I was questioning what was actually going on.
I also really enjoyed the whole concept behind this one. Having authors, audiobook narration and AI woven into a thriller felt incredibly relevant, especially with all the conversations happening around AI and creative industries right now. It gave the story something different from the thrillers I usually pick up.
Elena also had me conflicted at times because I didn’t necessarily agree with every choice she made, but I could understand what was driving her and sometimes those are the characters I find the most interesting.

This is a psychological slow burn that almost feels dystopian but creepily close to reality in terms of getting carried away with AI 😬 The concept is that AI can learn an author so well that it can write their next book. Blessing or curse? 🤔
To be honest, this reading experience would usually be too slow for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Elena and Cooper’s relationship during the build to the climax. It read like a cozy romance with an ominous thread running through it. The reveal was tense and had a satisfying follow-through - I didn’t see it coming!
While there were a few elements of the writing and character development that didn’t quite work for me, overall I really enjoyed the experience.
Pick this one up if you’re curious about the wild delusions people can have surrounding AI … we all want a peek at that don’t we? 🫣

The premise of this book caught my attention, especially with how quickly AI is being integrated in many parts of our lives. The story explored what makes something feel authentic, like audiobooks. Overall, entertaining and thought-provoking.

Review of advance copy received from Author
I read book one Fake Creativity and book 2 False Narratives reflects Elena's side of the story.
Both were fabulous reads, I loved seeing Elena's POV. Knowing what she was dealing with, seeing and hearing on the daily versus Coopers. Blake threw in a major plot twist in this one and shocked me. I def recommend reading both books!
If you like a thriller and quick read be sure to pick this up!
