Nigel May has been described as "the UK's male Jackie Collins" and is an author, TV host and journalist. His three fiction novels have all been published by Bookouture.
His first glam fiction novel was TRINITY, an action-packed blockbuster (or bonkbuster) about the lives of the rich and famous. Glamour, beauty, fame and celebrity mix with murder, intrigue and danger to create an explosive novel which gained incredible reviews and fans across the globe. His follow-up was the glitz-meets-grit whodunit ADDICTED which was also a huge success and once again dived into the diamond-dipped world of the mega-rich but showed that all of the money and fame in the world do not always make for a happy ending. His third novel SCANDALOUS LIES is steeped in secrets, sin, sex and scandal and takes readers around the world as a mysterious celebrity disappearance is investigated. His books have been Amazon best sellers, read by celebrities and fellow authors alike, and have proved that a man can successfully write in a 'bonkbuster world' that has always been a strongly female domain.
Nigel was the only male writer amongst 44 authors featured in the chart-topping, beach-read anthology of short-stories SUNLOUNGER. He also contributed a short story to SUNLOUNGER 2.
On television he regularly presents on UK shopping channels where he has built up a substantial following. He has also featured on Channel 4, C5, ITV and broadcast live from America. He is also one of the UK's most popular craft personalities, having launched his own successful range, A-May-Zing.
As a writer he has written for many of the UK's most successful magazines and newspapers, specialising in showbiz and celebrity, as well as writing on subjects ranging from relationships through to exotic travel.
Okay, I have to give this book one star, just because it has some of the worst writing I've ever seen in any genre, and I hated almost all the main characters. But in a way I don't feel good about doing a one-star review, because I've never seen anything like ADDICTED.
I loved the way all four heroines were always getting in hot water, and how the sex came fast and furious in almost every chapter. The one character I loved most was Lauren, who starts out as a very sweet and shy politician's wife (her only friend is her dog) but who soon discovers sex and drugs and becomes a rising starlet in the music industry. The one character I hated most was Nancy, a compulsive gambler and a thief who will betray anyone, any time, for any reason. God, I hated Nancy! Then there was Portia, the diva, who was nice enough but I hate classical music so I was always cheering whenever something bad happened to her. The last of the four sexy heroines was Martha, the rich South African girl. I liked Martha a lot, but I wanted more scenes like where she sleeps with one of the native men who works in her vineyard, and less of the jet set stuff.
So what was fun was how all four of them made mistakes, and weren't perfect all the time. I loved watching them get in trouble, and back stab each other, and lie. But after a while, it went from being trashy and fun to being trashy and depressing. And the language didn't help. I mean, Nigel May writes the worst English I have ever seen. It's almost impossible to describe!
"Nancy's brain was pulsating as revenge rose up and burst the buttons of her tight-knit smile." What?
"Dale watched the girl gyrate, lust generating an army of trembling desires that whirled like stilettos in the soft flesh of his groin." Huh?
"Martha's jealous fury was like a thousand Muslim terrorists driving pickup trucks loaded with explosives into the American embassy of her outraged ego." No, that actually made sense!
You cannot imagine what this book is like until you read it. And once you do, you will never forget it. So is it really a one star review?
I would like to thank Bookouture, Netgalley and the lovely Mr Nigel May for the copy of this highly addictive book.
OMG, what happened there I can't comprehend the way Mr May weavered his magic in this lustrous novel. The characters you just love to hate with their flash of money, lifestyle and men (sex on tap). I kinda guessed who the killer was, but there was shocks, laughs and even gasps along the way with this highly addicted (pun intended) novel.
I can't wait to read more from Mr May as he really does write close to Ms Jackie Collins.
From Downing Street to The Abbey and South Africa to the British Virgin Islands, this story takes you on a journey into a dangerous world of deception, duplicity and ultimately demise. With its array of characters designed to draw readers into a world of fashion, operatics, politics and sex, this book, with its diverse themes and scenes, has something to suit most tastes.
This was a complete random Kindle Unlimited one-click for me. I've never heard of the author or his books but something drew me to this story; despite its questionable cover which for me detracted from the story's appeal. Cover aside though, I wondered after the first few chapters just what I'd let myself in for. Chapter after chapter we appeared to meet new character after new character and it's not until you're mid-way through the story that you start to see the many pieces of the jigsaw gravitate towards each other before they finally come together in the story's conclusion.
The characters were diverse and fascinating. With egos and personalities abound, you quickly learn to love them or loathe them. To summarise each character would take too long but as you get to meet each one you start to develop opinions over who has wronged whom and who is ultimately to blame. Characters I started out loving quickly turned around in my eyes until I detested them. The one constant for me was Martha. Knowing exactly what she wants out of her life, she sets out to experience 110% of her trip to the UK and that is with as many sexual encounters and kinky scenes as she can enjoy. From dogging to dominance, Martha loves life and, determined to avoid her father's life ambitions for her and a possible arranged marriage, she does what she does best and that's living freely with plenty of sex.
Jackie Collins isn't an author I enjoy reading so I can't compare this story to her works, unlike the author, but compared to what I normally read and enjoy, this is relatively tame, however, some may find the story a step beyond their romance comfort level. That said, the sex scenes were tastefully handled and with more of a delicate inference than overly graphic detail, the author allows readers to paint their own detailed picture in the safety of their own naughty minds.
Overall, I found this to be a fun-filled read and an author I will definitely look to experience again. This is definitely a story which will brighten up the dullest of days and although at times it was unnecessarily long and overly drawn out, it was captivating and enjoyable.
I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
...and I want to be very honest with this review because I feel that Nigel May is a good writer and although there were some aspects I did not enjoy, overall I did enjoy this book and the Author’s Writing style, just not the format. Initially I was very excited to read this book. I really liked the concept of having 4 main characters instead of 1 as that can sometimes get a little boring. Each of the main characters, Nancy, Lauren, Portia and Martha had their own story line but were ultimately brought together based mainly on mutual friends. That made for a very interesting read as I anticipated the characters meeting and how they would be introduced to one another. The book kind of reminds me of the TV show Mistresses because they all live very dramatic lives which the complete opposite to my normal boring life, yet still very enjoyable to watch/read. I was immediately sucked in by Nancy and Lauren’s story lines but thought that Portia’s was very boring and Martha’s was a bit over the top. Suddenly the thrill of having 4 main characters diminished and it soon became a bit hard to follow. I liked that they all had 4 different types of addiction and that made them all similar yet very different. Nigel is very good at character development. I feel as though I could really picture every character that was introduced in the book and get a feel for who they are as a person. That was outstanding but…there is a but! There were way too many characters and the story line had way too many switches/transitions so it appeared a bit messy. Not so messy that I couldn’t read the book, but messy enough that I got lost a few times and at least once Nigel identified the wrong main character in one of the many transitions. I think if Nigel, the Author, would have devoted entire chapters to each main character it would have read more smooth. There were too many transitions and several times there were multiple transitions per chapter. I think this way Nigel could have stretched the book out a little more and could even make a series out of it instead of making it into one long book of repetitive actions by each main character. I will give it to Nigel though, the twist and turns of the book, especially towards the end will reel you back in so if you make it through some of the lulls between the end of part one and the beginning of part two, it only gets better. I plan on reading The Trinity next!

Another read in for me in the #NewAuthorForMe challenge.
We are introduced to these 4 women…
Nancy Arlow – Pretty much a has been actress/pop singer. Who is short of cash, and trying to find ways of making some. And if i'm honest she doesn't seem to care who get's in her way while doing so.
Lauren Everett - the wife of a politician, who seem’s seriously bored with home life. Who once had a dream of being a singer. Is it now too late to follow her dreams, without bringing her husband down.
Martha Eclair – The daughter of a millionaire, and she is rather fond of sex. Not really fussy who with. But she's also ballsy. And I really did like her character.
Portia Safari - famous operatic singer/performer who can’t seem to find a man to love. Who also seems to like a little drinkie or two. Each woman with what seem's like their own addictions. Each woman on a journey to find just what it is they are looking for.
With the exception of Nancy, to start off with I liked all the women. Their lives are so different yet so similar. They all seem to be lacking something in life. And what a brilliant journey they go on.
This isn’t really the sort of book I would normally read, but after reading a fellow bloggers review I thought I would really like to give it a go.
And I did enjoy it. I really really did bloody enjoy it. As I said very different read for me, but really enjoyable. It was quite a fun read, with enough going on to keep you guessing and wanting to read on. At time's I kept thinking I knew what was going to happen, but I kept getting that wrong.
I have been joining in this month with the #NewAuthorForMe challenge, and I have found yet another author here that I would look forward to reading more books from.
Addicted is a book you could become addicted too while reading it, and following the lives of the 4 women each with their own addictions the title just seemed perfect for it.
I loved Trinity and I generally love Nigel's way with words so I had high expectations for this book. Generally I enjoyed it: the sex scenes were well written, appropriate in length and frequency and not cringe-worthy in their description. The interconnecting plots were engaging and as usual, Nigel's description of locations is wonderfully visual. Before I go any further, firstly let me make it clear that this is a very enjoyable bonkbuster and secondly, there may be some spoilers in the next part! I promise honest reviews and whilst I adore Mr May in all his persona's, I am not going to just gush about his book if I don't mean it. So there were a couple of minor niggles for me. Firstly, the main characters Lauren, Martha and Kelly are all great friends one moment and the next Martha hates Lauren and has no hesitation in taking her husband. Whilst I know that women do this to each other, it just felt a little forced as to the level of hate Martha suddenly had for Lauren. I also struggled with Saul and Martha. Possibly because I don't believe in love at first sight and certainly don't believe in sex so amazing you fall for someone hook, line and sinker, I found their sudden love for each other after basically one flagellation and one shag, a little hard to comprehend! A little more development of their romance before they decided they were meant for each other would have sat better with me but this might be me rather than the book! These are however minor niggles and did not prevent me from enjoying this book at all - not quite as much as Trinity - but still very good and well worth reading.
Copy received from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
I generally avoid these type of stories because in such stories once you develop interest in one character's life, author moves to others and it's like cliffhanger feeling I don't enjoy that much. But this is anything but like that. I absolutely loved the story....
I am hard to please person and I hardly give any novel 5 star but this one definitely deserves that. It would have been 4 stars just to have 4 super characters in story but throw a murder mystery in it - 5 star without doubt.
I liked all 4 main characters - Portia, Nancy, Martha and Lauren - and their addictions. I liked Portia best and she is my favorite character in entire novel. I also like secondary characters as they show up in novel so flawlessly. Like Betsy, Kieran, Tom, Piero, Peter, Lewin, Mariella, Dale, Saul, Bloodworth (yes, he is also a character)
I must say the cover on netgalley is lot more glamorous than one listed in Goodreads.
I don't want to say anything about story otherwise there would be series of spoilers!
My only suggestion to Nigel would be make this a TV series! It's definitely, going to be hit, and I would love to see all characters come to life. I liked it so much, I am going to read Trinity without fail.
I love crime/ thriller but i also love bonkbusters Rebecca Chance and Victoria Fox are my favourites in this genre and i have recently bought my first book by the queen of bonkbusters Jackie Collins but i have never read a male version of bonkbuster so when i saw the Addicted cover reveal on twitter and seen that a male had written the book i knew i had to read it.
Addicted is the perfect title for this book as not only have the woman in this book got different addictions, the reader gets addicted to this book that's what i did i read this book in one day off and on only stopping to drop my little girl off at nursery then it was back to addicted.
The book is split into two parts the first part opens up with a funeral where rich people are gathered after a woman has been murdered so thats the mystery part of the book working out what unlucky character met her end
We are then introduced to four brilliant incredible females and their stories Nancy Arlow - fading entertainer who has a gambling addiction Lauren Everett - a woman who pretty much has no life since she became the wife of a politician, she is about to rediscover life she left behind and discover a coke addiction Portia Safari - world famous diva, adored by millions, has a drinking problem that could cost her everything Martha Eclair - millionaire wine heiress with a sex addiction that could destroy her father's empire. In the story links begin to emerge and the characters become interlinked and this is when the story develops and the addiction develops.
Nigel has created some (i know i said it already) incredible colourful female characters this resulted in a brilliant bonkbuster as the characters are very strong and outrageous and the story would not be the same without any of them each character is needed in this book.
I loved one character the most that was Lauren i think even though beautiful i think she was a sort of wallflower but a chance meeting changed her life forever and she never looked back all the way through i was hoping she got herself clean and became a star.
I have to say that Nigel also made the additional characters were just as colourful and these were essential to the story and dir the reader to fond out what happens
The second part is where the action kicks off and I was desperate to discover what happened next...and see what character came to an end and how.
Addicted is a jam packed book full of secrets, scandal lies and sex. The sex scenes were very vivid they was very sensual and realistic.
Once I finished addicted I was very disappointed I needed and wanted more I have brought Trinity on my Kindle and a third book is on its way in July so not that long to wait before I get my next fix.
Nigel May in my opinion can proudly stand by Rebecca Chance and Victoria Fox in this genre as Addicted is a brilliant bonkbuster and a perfect read for the summer or just a lazy afternoon.
"Fame, fortune and five-star luxury. Meet four fabulous women – all of them hold a dark secret… one of them won’t live to tell the tale.
Nancy Arlow – the fading entertainer determined to gamble and charm her way out of a mountain of debt.
Laura Everett– behind the façade of the perfect politician’s wife lies a woman with an outrageous past and a spiraling drug habit.
Portia Safari– the world famous opera diva, adored by millions, has it all, but could her secret drinking problem cost her everything?
Martha Éclair– The millionaire wine heiress whose appetite for kinky sex could bring down her father’s business empire.
Each woman must face their own addiction before they pay the ultimate price…
Switch off your phone, grab a glass of bubbly and escape into an outrageous word of thrills, glamour and passion. You’ll be addicted… "
Addicted is the title of this glamorous Bonk-Buster, and I have to admit, I found myself addicted to reading about the lives of these four outwardly fabulous women.
Although the book was an exciting and racy read I didn't particularly care for the main characters. The four women, with the exception perhaps of Martha, were quite obnoxious. Nancy, the has-been singer, is all bitter and twisted; Portia, the Diva, is self-obsessed and lonely Lauren seems pretty brainless and weak. Martha comes out as the strongest character, with, despite her particular addiction, more morals than any of them put together.
The male characters didn't endear themselves to me either. Saul, the politician, is weak and easily led; Dale is a narcissistic opportunist and Lewin is a grumpy old man!
Having said all that, perhaps these are character we love to hate. Rich, handsome, entitled... with fabulous locations and all sorts of mischief. It's a fun read!

Shamefully this story has languished on my NetGalley TBR pile. When reading is an addiction, it's shameful that you approach the likes of NetGalley a fabulous website that allows readers to request books from Publishers and if the Publisher grants your request the idea is that prior to Publication you review and help promote the book that they have let you read on various social media platforms and on your blog if you have one. Sadly, I don't always fulfil my obligation in that way and this is proof of that.
I hold my hand up like the title of the book Addicted, I am Addicted to reading. I have previously read and enjoyed books by Nigel May and this one is no different at all. Nigel has a clear ability at writing the bonkbuster trashy style novels that I devoured in my teens and early adulthood. His books are set in the modern day 21st Century and would look great on any bookshelf next to the likes of Jackie Collins, Shirley Conran and the rest of the authors of that era back in the 1980's.
Telling the story of four women who appear to have it all, but all have one common denominator they are all Addicted to something. Their addictions come in different forms and could be the downfall of each and every one of them in turn. However, to find out what happens, to who it happens and who may be the one that has caused it, then you need to grab a copy.
Full of fame, power, glamour, addiction, secrets, betrayal and sex, this is a book that will take you away from your normal day to day life and into the world of the Addicted. It kept me entertained and I enjoyed my time with Nancy, Martha, Portia and Lauren. Thank you Nigel, I will be reading more of your books as you could say I am a little Addicted!
I received a digital copy of Addicted from NetGalley.com in exchange for my honest review.
British smut at its finest! This is reminiscent of Jackie Collins’ 80’s mega novels. I absolutely adore fanciful tales of the mega-wealthy, and mega-talented jet setting around the world like the rest of us go to the corner market. In the afterword of the digital edition, the author wants to know what characters you liked best. I’m “Team Kelly” all the way! While a secondary character with a pivotal role within one of the many subplots, Kelly stays true to herself. She owns who she is, what she does, and what she likes.
What I loved: The glitz, the glamour – Addicted is an 80’s novel set in today’s world minus the shoulder pads. I also loved the minor character of Betsy – what a spunky old lady! I would love to be like that when I reach my golden years.
What I didn’t love: A lot of the sex scenes in this novel bordered on the 50 Shades porn variety which is not my cup of tea. I’m all for “throbbing members” but some of the fetish scenes were in par with an old episode of HBO’s “Real Sex” documentary.
What I learned: Don’t keep your enemies closer – you’re better off when they’re far, far away.
Addicted has all the features of a classic bonkbuster. Some glamorous locations, reasonably rich or famous characters, a mystery (that was hinted at in the prologue) and lots of sex.
This is a highly charged, fast paced book, featuring 4 main leading ladies. Nancy, a washed out starlet, Lauren, a typical politician's wife, Martha, heiress to a wine empire in South Africa, and Portia, a superstar opera singer.
At the star of the book, there is very little addiction to anything but as the story develops, so do the addictions of the characters to various vices. As their lives all start to crossover and interlink, more and more connections are made between them all, and I was left continually trying to work out the answer to what happened in the prologue.
Fabulous book by Nigel May, one that I completely enjoyed, and seems like the perfect sort of book to read while lounging by the pool/on the beach.
I love a good bonkbuster, Jackie Collins and Rebecca Chance are my go to authors for this genre, so I was intrigued to read 'Addicted' which is written by a man and I was not disappointed. This book really was brilliantly written, I was hooked from the beginning. I loved the characters, 4 very different women with 1 thing in common-Addiction! The story was fast paced and exciting and I couldn't put it down until I'd turned the last page. Addicted is a pure escapism read, it has all the ingredients of a fabulous bonkbuster - mystery, glitz, glamour and steamy sex. A perfect book for summer holiday reading, I will certainly be looking out for more books by Nigel May in the future.
Fun for reading by the pool on the hottest of summer days. I’m so out of touch with this kind of life the name dropping and designer labels were lost on me. None of the characters were particularly likable, all talons and sharp tongues with total lack of a moral compass, but it was still a breezy little book. Needed a better editor, though. Several typos and lots of things to tidy up. But I doubt hardly any other readers were bothered by it; I’m just persnickety. Perfect book for a weekend getaway or a cruise book.
This is the third novel by Nigel May that I have read. I admit it fell down the bottom of my TBR pile and in need of something a little lighthearted to read I felt this would be perfect and it was. The book begins with a funeral and a murderess attending - although in all the twists and turns that ensued I totally forgot about it. To begin with I felt no empathy for any of these "addicts" but as the book progressed and turned into a real rollercoaster of a read I became engrossed, needing to find out what was going to happen. I'm giving this five out of five stars. The perfect escapist read but not for those easily offended by the bonkbuster element.
Read during a period when venturing beyond our sceptered isle is nigh on impossible, Addicted is a wonderful reminder of the world beyond our borders. As a teenager I was gripped by the glamour of Dynasty and the Colby's - so the fabulousy rich and beautiful cast of the novel struck a few nostaligic notes with me too. Especially as so many of the characters are so flawed. A master of metaphor and similie himself, saying that the plot has more twists and turns than a fairground Waltzer, should please Nigel no end. Buckle-up and fasten your seatbelts!
Estivo.
Loved it, first I’ve read of this author but I’ll be reading more! All I can say it’s that it’s a shame one character didn’t realise the truth of another..
I give this book 4 stars . I found this book so funny in many of the chapters . It's a good reading for when you go on hoiladay and chill by the beach .
Regular readers of my blog will know that my favourite author is Jackie Collins, and so when Bookouture signed Nigel May, and I read that he has been called 'the male Jackie Collins' I was both excited and apprehensive to see how he would compare. I have actually had Nigel's books on my TBR since starting the blog last year when he first came to my attention, so his signing was the perfect time to finally read his books.
I was addicted to Addicted. Seriously, it has everything you would want from a bonkbuster, along with some rather incredible and outrageous main characters in the form of our four women. Nancy Arlow - fading entertainer about to develop a gambling addiction that could see her life fall apart, Lauren Everett - a woman who pretty much has no life since she became the wife of a politician, she is about to rediscover the life she left behind (and develop a drug addiction along the way...), Portia Safari - world famous diva, adored by millions, has a drinking problem that could cost her everything... and Martha Eclair - millionaire wine heiress with a sex addiction that could destroy her father's empire. All of these girls are about to collide, resulting in one of the most entertaining reads I have read this year.
Bonkbusters usually have a mystery element, and the mystery in Addicted comes at the very beginning when we witness the funeral of one of our four women, but it is kept from the reader which woman it actually is, before taking us back in time, setting the scene, introducing all of the characters, and showing us just how all of their lives come to converge. The very nature of stories like this means that they are hard to summarise, so much happens, but all I can say is that it's a hell of a lot of fun to read about. Also the sex. Any good? Yes. Let's just say Nigel has a very vivid imagination and he puts it to good use here.
I think what I enjoyed most was how Nigel May made the personalities of our four women really shine through, and not always in a good way. Not only that but that boring cliche of 'money doesn't buy you happiness', the saying that those of us without wealth can't possibly imagine to be true, is actually true because our leading ladies aren't always happy, and have the same worries and insecurities that women across the world face every single day. It's hard to discuss favourites without fully explaining why, but I must have changed my mind about who I liked the most a dozen times as I read, as the characters change so will your opinion, but as we neared the finish I was firmly on the side of some of the characters more than others. I'll say no more...
As the percentage on my Kindle got nearer to 100%, I couldn't read quick enough to discover how everything would conclude. To discover which of our characters would soon find themselves six feet under (despite having a fair idea of which one it would be...) and I was a little bit disappointed to finish this book. Aside from Queen Jackie I also love Victoria Fox, and I think Nigel May is about to sit alongside those two authors if Trinity and his upcoming new novel, Scandalous Lies, are as good as Addicted. I have no hesitation in recommending this book! It is the perfect read this summer.
Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley, I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review........
Four women….one death, one killer….Getting clean is a dirty business
Meet Martha Eclair the wine heiress with a sex addiction that could destroy her father's wine business empire, Nancy Arlow the faded entertainer who also has a major gambling addiction, Portia Safari the operatic diva who is adored by millions but has a drinking problem that could cost her everything and Lauren Everett the politician's wife, who pretty much has no life since she married her politician husband and she is about to rediscover life she left behind and discover a coke addiction - four women who can’t say no….....
All of these women should be happy with what life has given them. Success, beauty, money and fame. But never judge a book by it's cover, because on the outside they may all seem to be completely in control of their lives, but under their fashionable appearance, deep within their souls, they are all battling their own demons…......they are all addicted. Addicted to things that could ruin their very existence. In fact, one will snuff it out for good but who will it be?
I didn't like this book, I LOVED it, the book is divided into two parts and couldn't wait to get through to the end of it to see what way it would progress and pan out. The characters were well written and with great depth too. There was lots of glitz and glamour throughout this book with some of the characters which I loved, I could imagine myself there at times during the book in Las Vegas. I would state that due to mature content, I would recommend this for readers aged 18+. There are alot of scenes of sex and this might not be to everyone's cup of tea but I thought that it was tastefully written.
As I've never read any books by the likes of Jackie Collins or Victoria Fox, I can't really compare or judge the book based on that, I'll probably cause a bit of a stir by saying this but I can tell you that in my opinion I think Nigel May can certainly write better than E.L. James. I'm looking forward to reading more from Nigel too. So, if you are looking for an escapist read; grab this book, a glass or two of wine and some chocolate. Switch off, relax and enjoy!
Firstly thank you to Nigel and the girls over at Gosling Girls Book Tours for inviting me to review this book! This is the first of Nigel’s books that I’ve read so I was excited to see what lay in store for me and I was really quite intrigued by the blurb!
The story is all about four women. Each of them have been dealt a relatively good hand in life and from the outside look to be pretty fortunate but on the inside, behind closed doors all is not as it seems.
The story stars with a VERY intriguing prologue which sets up an air of mystery and suspense which then carries throughout the story. My mind kept going back to it while I was reading wondering who would turn out to be the villain.
The story is about four women – Martha, Lauren, Portia and Nancy. Each of them are wealthy and live in the world of luxury, moving in social circles which ooze sumptuous extravagance and salacious gossip. I loved how bitchy the characters were! I felt like this was exactly what they would be like in real life so I got to imagine talking and gossiping with them! The story has also got some rather steamy moments which are written sexily without being really really dirty!
Nigel’s writing ensures that the story travels along at a swift pace. Each of the characters take turns to narrate the story and as their lives start to intertwine it makes for good reading as you get to see a fuller picture with all angles covered!
The story reminds me of novels by Tasmina Perry, Victoria Fox and Jo Rees. The story is filled with indulgence, glamour and the gritty truths behind the façade. If you like anything by the authors I’ve mentioned I think you will definitely enjoy this.
This is my first foray into this genre and I wasn't disappointed. It had pretty much everything I usually want from a book and left me satisfied at the end. We start with a funeral but we don't know who has died. We then rewind and follow the lives of the 4 main characters - Nancy, Laura, Martha and Portia - along with a whole host of other characters as their lives develop and intersect, culminating in the main event where the unfortunate one meets their demise. To be honest, about three quarters of the way through the book I had got so wrapped up in the lives of all the characters, watching the crossovers and intersections that I actually completely forgot that one had died and that I was supposed to be guessing who, why, what and how! I also went through a veritable roller coaster of emotions as far as the characters were concerned. I kept changing my allegiance, kept alternately liking and hating them - although I think I was in Martha's camp for pretty much the whole ride. The way the author successfully weaves all the characters into each other's stories had me gobsmacked at the smoothness of it all. The story, albeit sometimes, larger than life was on the whole mostly believable. The "romantic" scenes (which I was a tad worried about as I am not a big fan) actually turned out to be very well written and I didn't feel the need to skip or skim over them. All in all, it was exactly what it said on the tin. A very enjoyable book that basically reads itself to you leaving you just to enjoy the ride without having to think too much during it! I have another by this author to read/review and I am looking forward to it!
Don’t let ‘the strains of Ave Maria’ fool you. This is no nuns story.
Addicted is one horny ride, it is flirty, filthy.. oh and there is a murder.
The main four women are all fabulous, from their manicured fingernails to their La Perla knickers. This is the 80’s personified. All Addicted to something, whether that be drugs, gambling or plain old alcohol. These women are funny, rude, rich and fabulous.
The sex scenes will make even the most frigid and puritanical of us aware that we are alive, and I suggest that if you have a partner, make sure they are available… you will want to do IT while reading.
Addicted will make your eyes water. It’s an orgasm waiting to happen, it really is a sexy read.
Reading Addicted I almost forgot about the murder and the mystery, even the suspense is well plotted. It is a glitzy, glamorous whodunnit.
I definitely needed a cold shower after reading.
E.L.James..Pah! and move over Jackie Collins, Nigel May is the readers Viagra.
This is the second book by the author I have read recently, and even more now I would put his writing style into the same category as Jackie Collins.
This is once again a story involving several different women whose lives become embroiled with each other through sometimes random coincidences.
The twists and turns within this story are brilliant. Just when you think you are figuring it out the author throws in a curve ball which has you trying to work out in your head what has just happened! And this is done more than once during the story!
Each of the characters we meet is described really well, their stories were interesting, and I know which one of them I wanted to be the focus of the very first chapter! Did I get my wish? As a matter of fact no, I was surprised when I discovered who it was. Was I disappointed? Not at all as I honestly don't think the story could have gone any other way.
