This is a love story but not as usual as others seem (and eventually turn out to be). Aziz has created a different kind of love story in which he has narrated the point of view of the person who breaks into pieces in a process called love... Farhan is the guy who is narrating the story for Aziz in this novel What was my Fault. He falls in love with Zoya who insinuates the love but later turns her back on some grounds... grounds which baffle poor Farhan - he is a two-time divorcee and a little older than Zoya.
The Epilogue of the novel is momentous as well as the ultimate chapter... Farhan speaks not only for him (or maybe for Aziz too) but for the entire community of lovers who have been left miserable in the midway and later approached again as if they are but a piece of a decorative tree... place wherever you want!
Well done, Aziz! I loved the way you have done things in your novel! I would recommend this one to all the people with a heart...

The love story of Zoya and Farhan is the usual love story with some unusual narrative and a rather unexpected ending. This is not like the movies made in bollywood where despite of everything else, the actor and the actress are supposed to be seen holding each other tightly at the end. Farhan is rather a different guy who keeps on looking for the answer (even now) - what was my fault? Zoya is a proud or over-ambitious girl who just breaks Farhan apart.. read this love story to know who was right and who was wrong...

The book carefully explains and illuminates on how our current society works and thinks and how it is able to manipulate the minds of the people, young and old, to make decisions according to what they assume is acceptable, restricting the freedom to make our own choices.

Would recommend this to all those people who feel they're alone in their suffering and need something or someone to relate to. This book will definitely help you find some closure.

This book really portray different kind of people who has different opinions about love and relationships. Love isn't a toy that can be use and throw ever since you don't like or your parents wants you to throw just because you are good enough to have a better one. People should think about it.
I loved this book. I really wants to say "Aziz Padiwala you are an amazing writer".

To tell the truth, I picked this book only because I liked the cover. Yes, cover judge this side but this is very first time that I am disappointed. The story, the writing style, the d, none of them caught my attention and I ha to drag myself to complete the book as it was too slow, unrealistic, boring and without a proper plot. Yes, there was no proper plot and it seemed to me that as if the author had an idea and wanted to put it but didn’t know how.
The starting was nice and it actually caught my attention but only after the first paragraph of the book I had to start pushing myself to continue. The character of Farhan was really depressing and annoying at times. Hoping too much and saying he don’t have any hope left. Pointlessly fall in love with the girl without thinking even when suffered in his “past”. The character of Zoya was as annoying as Farhan. She was so perfect in the starting and suddenly so so cruel and not evil.
The story needed a more strong plot and a bit better scenes to let the story sink in. There were also grammar mistakes which are so unprofessional and epilogue, ah, I left in confusion when I read the epilogue and found the things which we usually find in “for the reader” heading.
Well, I am happy to say though, that I found a point that I liked about the book was that the author tried to put this thing to end where the divorcees have to carry this blame that they cannot balance their life with them even when it was not them at fault. But, even though the idea was good, it was not written in that way that it had made the impression.

What was my fault is not a typical romantic story or a story with happy ending, instead it's a beautiful story where the author makes the reader go through realistic situations. Our society is very much orthodox and in order to please them, people lose their individualism. The book portrays how our society is capable of manipulating other people whether young or old in order to make decisions which are beneficial to them.

Aziz narrates a beautiful story about Farhan and Zoya. Farhan meet Zoya and instantly feels connected to her. Farhan is a perfect guy which every girl dreams of but Zoya is reluctant at first but later gives in because she starts loving him too. Everything seems perfect untill Faran reveals his haunting past to her. What is his past that he is so afraid to tell? Will Zoya accept him ?

The love story of Zoya and Farhan is the usual love story with some unusual narrative and a rather unexpected ending. I loved how the author described each and every emotion of the characters. The language is easy and understandable. The story is well paced. It's a short and refreshing read.

If one is looking for a romantic fiction with a twist, then this book would be a perfect read.

The novel, What was my fault by Aziz Padiwala was sent to me by the author himself. I cannot guarantee a spoiler free review for this one so read at your own risk.

Indian society is predominantly patriarchal in nature. I have written about it's double standards in my novella, Beyond The Veil-The Journey Of An Indian Girl. Author Aziz does the same in his novel, What was my fault. On the surface it is an unrequited love story but it's crux lies in the social stigma associated with certain set of people. It is as if we have been given two different sets of viewing glasses, the one which society thinks befitting and the one which is convenient to us. Aziz emphasis on these aspects which are forever ignored.

Farhan has a past. He has been stifled under the pressure of work and responsibilities for the longest time. His love life hasn't ever been fun either. To break the monotonous life he flies down to India for a wedding. It is here that he meets a vibrant girl, Zoya. But Farhan's past intervenes and we are confronted with the most difficult, frequent and neglected issue of our times - divorce.

The word is potent enough to pierce through like the shard of a broken glass. And while, the statics have been showing the rise in divorce cases on one hand, the other side shows growing depression and anxiety amongst the divorcees. The taboos attached to divorcees remains another matter of concern. It is this sensitive topic that Aziz handles in his novel. He brings us face to face with facts we have always ignored. He shows us the hypocritic side of the society. He handles the matter with aplomb and enough panache.

The author has deftly peppered the novel with varied emotions and sequences pivotal to the climax. What looks like a slice of life story turns into a vital social message, is what I loved to most about this novel. It is a debut work so it is bound to have one too many copy errors but this novel makes you overlook such minor glitches. You get hooked to it till the very end. Yes, it does have the potential to bring a smile to your face, a blush, rather. You will definitely love the scene where Farhan tries to woo Zoya.

I got involved in the novel from the beginning because I have only recently been there, perhaps I am still there. However, I did have mixed feelings about it as I went further x. Considering I am writing away a heartfelt review for this novel certainly means that it is an impressive work.

Some stories are meant to be read because of their potential. Aziz, does come across as an exceptional storyteller. He presents you with an uncanny story picked from the life of a layman which ought to be read for it's uniqueness of being common!

On the scale of readability I rate it 6 on 10.

What was my fault is a story of Farhan living in Kuwait with his mother. He had bad luck with love in past and now in his late twenties is struggling with loneliness and lives with constant stigma of a failed love life. Farhan feels like he had been outcast of the society and thinks that society now views him from a stained mirror of stigma.

His mother wants him to get married again as she feels it will help him cope up with his past and the constant loneliness and unhappiness that plagues him. They decide to visit India to attend a family function. Farhan was reluctant to meet his family and relatives since he know that they will bring up his past and discuss about it behind his back.

In India, he meets a young woman named Zoya and Farhan feels an instant connection like he had never felt before. Zoya is young, beautiful and intelligent woman and seem to reciprocate the attraction that Farhan feels towards her. He finally tells her everything and his happiness held no bounds when Zoya loves and accepts him with all his flaws and baggage of past. But he soon discovers that his feat with bad romance has not ended and one of his worst nightmares come true.

Language used in the book is very easy and beginner friendly. The author expresses well without complicated sentences or difficult words. There was nominal description of surroundings, emotions and and places. The plot is fairly predictable and there are no twists and turns to look forward to. I believe this is something that a young teenager/beginner reader would enjoy who have interest in love stories.

A seasonal reader would probably not enjoy it due to lack of sophisticated writing and articulation, hence making it suitable for a beginner. I am not a fan of the cover of the book. I feel like better and more appealing illustration could have been used.

'I believe in making our own destiny. I think what happens is because of the choices we make not because it is already decided' - Aziz Padiwala
📓
** BOOK REVIEW**
📓
'What was my fault' is a semi- adult romance genre which features two main character Zoya and Farhan. Farhan lives in Kuwait but visits India for a family function and there he met Zoya, pretty, smart, mature college going girl. They fell in love. But Farhan has a darker side and he's in dilemma, whether Zoya will accept that side or will be a critic and judgmental like the society!
📓
This book make people in the society not to judge anyone on the basis of their past life experiences. It lays emphasis on looking at a person's present deed and leave the past. This book bring out the underlying truth of our society where we believe in finding faults over the reality.
📓
CHARACTER built-up is what is lacking in this book. Introduction of sub-plots would have made this story more engrossing rather than just focusing on one. In my point of view, I think the story was highly tilted in the favour of Farhan and overlooking the conditions and circumstances of Zoya, making her a mere side kick in the story just to prove the point of the author!
📓
This novel I feel directly from the heart of the author by reading his strong opinions in this book. Book gave a strong message by putting a light on the malice hidden in the society. But, the book lacks at many fronts ...it needed more stronger and built-up characters. With the complex issues the author touched, he needed a more in depth narration.
📓
But if you are looking for a semi-adult romance with a strong message in it....then this book is for you! The intense and complex issue the author has touched is commendable. It is a quick read..in one sitting type..containing a message to the society!

What was my Fault? Is rather a brave attempt to try something different in the Indian market. The Indian reading market is saturated with love stories as every average reader would be aware. Just when you think there is no more place for a love story, there comes another one on the shelves. This book tries really hard to be a departure from that. It tries so hard that it falters in some ways.

When you start reading the story, it does build an interest in the reader as to what is wrong. What is the protagonist struggling with? The author builds up to it really nicely. You are hooked, you hurriedly want to get to that part. Sadly, everything in this book goes downhill from there. It stops being a story and turns into a long drawn monologue at not one place, but many places which feels like a drag to the reader.

The ending of the book is underwhelming and leaves you asking for more. Maybe the author tried too hard and that is what proved to be his undoing. The book takes a lot of leaps suddenly with no explanation or text to back it up which can be very confusing for the reader. The idea of the author is brave but Aziz fails to do it complete justice. There is constant effort by the author to make the protagonist look like the good guy, but he comes off as desperate and clingy in reality. The character Farhan suffers from major flaws as does the female lead, Zoya. The book is also marred by an inefficient editing job- you’ll find loads of grammatical mistakes and words like ‘is’, ‘are’ etc missing from the sentences at times. Honestly, that is very uncomfortable to read as a reader.

Try it if you want to experiment reading something new.

🌟What Was My Fault By Aziz Padiwala🌟
Genre: Fiction
Publisher: Power Publishers
.
Plot: A young man in his late twenties who has lost every emotional war in his life. He blames himself and is always on edge. He is losing the last remaining shred of hope of finding true love, when he comes accross a girl who changes everything. Suddenly, his entire world turns upside down. But like every other aspect of his life, his relationship is twisted in more ways than one. .
My Opinion: This stories focuses on the central character known as Farhan. Well, the story is initially based in Kuwait where Farhan lives with his dear mother. The mother-son bond is depicted well throughout book & deeply touched my heart. After a span of time, Farhan visits India where he falls in love with a young girl named as Zoya. Zoya is show as a strong, bold and she is the today's girl who wants freedom. At first, she refuses his proposal but then accepts. Things go well until the past life of Farhan comes in their way and the real story starts there. Well, I loved the plot & the concept of the book. It's written with full heart & includes many natural feelings. Many kinds of relationships & various bonds are depicted in the book which makes it an interesting read. The book is short & anyone can finish it quickly. Though the cover is dull.
.
Pros: The language of the book is really simple & easy. The book takes the reader to various aspects of life. It introduces various heart touching relationships throughout the book. What attached me was the two characters. I do recommend it.
Cons: The book has again writing problem, no strong narration.

There are somethings in the society that has us. We are unable to exactly pinpoint what or even if we do, we can't change that and that's why I say, somethings in the society has us. The lead characters of the story: Farhan and Zoya goes through something similar. Giving no spoilers: I won't say what do they go through. You'll have to yourself go through this gem of a book to know that.

What I can rather say is, the characters are wonderfully etched. You will immediately connect to a person around you (or even yourself) when you read the book. The ups and downs of this limited character book is something that makes this book a very simple yet clever read. The author has done his best at making this book one which is read worthy for all kinds of audience. You can be someone who reads any genre but this book will catch you out of the blue and complete it in one sitting itself.

Another thing that I liked about the book was the simplistic writing. There are very few people who can capture the essence of a book in a few characters while giving everyone their space, something the author has almost mastered. About the cons of the book, I guess a few mistakes here and there and the length of the book was a problem. Also, something that might be a problem for avid readers like me can be the over-use of italics. I guess this book has the potential which could have been great if it was sharpened a little more. For me, this was a 3.5 out of 5 waiting for much more from the author.

Definitely a love story or better to call it a love seeking story! Aziz Padiwala tells the tale through Farhaan, who is working in Kuwait. He lives with his mother. Their life is pretty dull and revolves around Farhaan’s office, and home only. A boy of his age should be out having fun but due to the unfortunate incidents in the past, he has lost faith in relationships; he has lost hope to ever be ‘Normal’ again!
He meets Zoya, on a totally undesired trip to India and falls in love with her at first sight. He wants to be with her at any cost. But how could he forget his bitter past? He decides to share it with the girl in his life wondering what would be her reaction?
'What was my fault' is small read but it successfully keeps you glued with an interesting story line. The quest of Farhaan to find true love eventually ends frigidly due to the societal norms. ‘What was my fault’ comes with a message and throws light on what is happening around us especially in middle class society where marriage is of utmost significance. The book reminds how hypocrite our society is and how it treats the people with failed relationships?

What Was My Fault is a story of Farhan and Zoya. Farhan meets Zoya and instantly falls in love with her. The way Farhan loves Zoya is perfect. His feelings are very well described by Author. They spend good time together. Then some dark truths from Farhans past separates them. To know what is the reason behind their separation, you'll have to read this book.

I can say this is one of the best novel I have ever read with a great social message. This book aims to present the harsh reality of society and why we should try to change the mindsets of people. I don't want to reveal much about the story in my review, as I want you to read the book and know the complete story yourself.

The book is very well-written. The book cover and title are apt. Aziz Padiwala has become one of my favourite author in no time at all.

I would like to give it 5/5.

'What was my fault?' is an unrequited love story and talks about the social stigma associated with a certain set of people. The novel takes a different tack on the concepts of 'love' and 'relationships.'

'What was my fault?' was not an usual love story that ends on a happy note. The story portrays the current picture of our society, how it drives one to make decisions according to it's acceptable norms. The writing style of the author was simple and neat. I liked the way he has presented the story in a simple yet beautiful way. I liked both the main characters of the book that is Farhan and Zoya, although in the end I lost respect for Zoya.

The narration was smooth and I finished the book in one sitting. I wish the author had extended the plot a little more and made it more engaging. Overall, it was a nice one time read. If one is looking for a romantic fiction with a twist, then this book would be a perfect read.

The book by Aziz is a gem, for sure. A reader like me who cares only for a good reading cannot stay away from stories as touching as this. There are lesser characters than expected in the book, no doubt, but the set-up is amazing and perfectly builds up with Zoya and Farhan only. However, the novel could be bettered a little, Still, the way the story moves catches your attention as the reader. You get to read even the chat inputs and outgoing messages... what's that! A love story which tells you too much and hides nothing... the conclusion isn't that pleasant but is the best for such a novel!

Aziz's story is fantastic, to be sure... the way he unfolds the youthful love story from some smoke of cigaratte and then takes it to a logical conclusion that not every love story is destined to shine forever... an intriguing and pitiable account of love story at the same time. Farhan is puished for the crime that he commits and that crime is none other than loving someone called Zoya who equally falls for him at the beginning and then, by the pressure or persuasion of her family and friends, she just tracks back... what was Farhan's fault? Farhan is looking for an answer, can you give him your piece of advice?

As the title of the novel suggests, What was my Fault is a serious novel which introspects and tries to define a love story from an entirely new perspective. This is not something which is usual or just the other novel featuring romance between people. Farhan is a sensible person but ironically falls for a girl who has come out in the open to do some smoking... however, they continue and fall in love to the depths and then the thing happens which was feared. The past of Farhan bothers Zoya to an extent and she decides to remain aloof of the ongoing affair. What happens next is very wonderful and you must read that...

The book appears to have been written from an entirely different perspective and it offers another side of the mirror which shows you nothing but the nothingness. Aziz has tried to explore the horizons which appear to be at fault but in reality, everything is fine with the sky. Zoya is the supposed girl who has broken Farhan's heart and he blames himself for the mistakes he 'might' have made which would have angered Zoya or hurt her. Aziz, the author, has given a twist to the tale towards the conclusion of the novel and what's that? Yes, that's an upside down state entirely... read the novel to know further! A good book for youths who often fall in love!

What was my fault by Aziz Padiwala is a story about a guy named Farhan and about his failed relationships. The story is about Farhan falling head over heels in love with a girl named Zoya but there are few things about him which he wants Zoya to know first and than they can think of any future as all these things are related to his past. But after revealing everything about his past does Zoya accepts him and whether the journey ahead for them is smooth to find out this read this book. The pace of story overall is good. The writing is quite simple and easy to understand. The cover goes well with the title.

What was my Fault is a love story set in 2014 but its not at all like the modern day tales of love... a gf and a bf and all that once again after break-up.. this is a rather different story of love where the guy gives in completely and the girl has certain apprehensions and still they fall in love only to bring this - Farhan is left alone in pains by Zoya on some family and friends' suggestions.. why did she love at the beginning then? Read this amazing love story by Aziz. You will surely love it.

What could be done better in this novel? As the readers might contemplate and ask themselves or the author, I think the story could be just expanded and also the plot could be made a little catchy. The story is too plain and runs only on two wheels, unlike most others. Well, that does not take away the fact that this fiction by Aziz Padiwala is amazing and truly wonderful. I will go with this book any day over others which do not offer you a point of view and just plain narration... I like the love story which comes from a rather different perspective today... from the guy's side...

The best part about this book is certainly the ultimate chapter and also the epilogue which the author has written so wonderfully. The questions that Aziz has asked and the answers that Zoya could not offer speak too much... love is not a game which you play when you like and which you abort when you decide to play another game. A person who loves someone must not be judged on what faults his past had (and being a divorcee isn't a fault!)... Farhan is a likeable character whereas Zoya demeans herself towards the ending of the novel... great read!

Zoya falls for Farhan and Farhan falls too much for Zoya and then Zoya falls to low and rejects Farhan's love only because someone else said her something to convince that Farhan is not suitable for her. Towards the end, when Zoya declares that Farhan is nothing she can get whomsoever she wants because she is rich and beautiful, that's the hypocrisy which Farhan catches and rebukes... amazing love story with too much to take away and too much to let go.. you must read this one by the author Aziz - What was my Fault!

I found nothing in the book except some self-serving egoistic juggling of words which show the protagonist, most probably the author himself, on a high moral high ground and seems that the girl is just being posed there as someone to take the views of the guy.. yes the narrative might look some genuine because it gives even the minutest details of the love affair, and rest is just a build-up to show that Farhan is ensured to shine high and all others will follow his ideology.... good but just like others...

What I could find in this novel was just a bit of fiction and rest all non-fiction in the terms of thoughts by Aziz Padiwala who tells you that love should be away from the social and family barriers if you are serious about it. Or just don't love.... some points in the fiction could be praised but it lacks the maturity and just hurries into letting the readers know that Farhan was innocent and he was duped by a rather smart and cunning Zoya who loves him and dumps him because the society did not approve of it.... not much substance in the fiction...

Farhan and Zoya are people madly in love; Zoya gets aside and explores other opportunities than love. Farhan keeps himself in the agony of love lost and blames himself for some fault. He knows the things behind the curtain only later and then he does not repent for what has happened... However, there are certain lapses in the novel as well. The novel lacks a catchy plot and certainly looks naive most of the times. Except for the sincerity of narrative, the novel had to offer many other things... still a good read!

The first person account of Farhan and his love affair with Zoya which was only there to teach him certain lessons in life... you will probably like the novel for the truth that it speaks. You might countersign or just not like the views the author, Aziz, presents in the novel. Not always a break up is painful if you truly realise what has brought that to reality. Aziz keeps blaming himself for the troubles but he finds out that Zoya wasn't just worthy to be with him for her ambitions and her passiveness in love... superb for me!
