Dallas socialite Cynthia Langhorne is infamous for her beauty, her philanthropy, and her home wrecking--until she's found shot through the heart and posed nude at a fundraising ball. The case is high profile, and there's a bigger problem: Cindy is the wife of a decorated FBI special agent--the prime suspect in her murder.
When the Bureau sends FBI profiler Atticus Spenser and forensic psychiatrist Dr. Caitlin Cassidy to Texas on behalf of Dutch Langhorne, the special agent-turned-suspect, they're suspicious of the very man whose interests they're supposed to protect. But with a psycho hitman on their heels and a trail of evidence leading up the food chain, it quickly becomes clear this is no ordinary case. The truth points to someone--or something--larger than Spenser and Cassidy ever thought possible. Solving this case is no longer a matter of clearing Dutch's name--it's a matter of national security.
Creating stories and then sharing them with you so that you can shine your own light on them, reading through a lens shaped by your own perceptions, is such a joy. I hope you enjoy the books!

Notorious by Carey Baldwin – A Cassidy and Spencer Novel- is a 2016 Witness Impulse publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I had a feeling this series was going to become a favorite of mine right from the beginning, and I was right, with this third segment being arguably the best one yet.
When a colleague of Spencer’s, Dutch Langhorne, finds his wife shot dead, in a hotel room, he becomes suspect number one. So, while this case is not an official one for Cassidy and Spencer they once more postpone their vacation plans to help solve the murder.
This story is just a little more complicated than the first two, with some heavier emotional issues weighing on the couple, which has a huge impact on this case. This case is an honest to goodness whodunit, with political implications that could reach as far as the white house.
There are several jaw dropping twists in this story, lots of shocking revelations about Spencer’s past, and Cassidy ends up in the middle, torn with indecision, knowing she must protect Spencer, but she could lose him in the process.
Two things about this story that stand out for me, is that this one seemed a little more action packed, and it’s a little steamier than the first two books. Both of these developments signals character development and strength in the plotline, which can now reach a whole new audience. Those who enjoy romantic suspense, psychological thrillers, action thrillers, as well as those who just like a good old fashioned mystery can all enjoy this book, because I believe it has that wide of an appeal.
It is not absolutely necessary to read these in order, but if this is your first book in the series, you will pick up on references that elude to prior installments and so to understand and enjoy this story more, I suggest reading the first book in the series at the very least before tackling this one.
I still have my little crush on Spencer, but am so happy to see him and Cassidy moving forward, even if they do hit a few bumps in the road from time to time. They make a perfect couple all the way around, complimenting each other professionally and personally. This series still has lots of avenues to explore, with each case becoming more challenging and taking on new qualities, which will keep it fresh for a long time to come.
Overall, this is a fantastic addition to the series!!
Notorious is book three in the Cassidy & Spenser series by Carey Baldwin. Dr Caitlyn Cassidy and Special Agent Atticus Spenser were going on holidays when they were contacted to help a colleague Special Agent Alex Langhorne to find the murder of his wife. Instead of going to Tahiti they travel to Dallas, Texas. The readers of Notorious will follow the twist and turns of Dr Caitlyn Cassidy and Special Agent Atticus Spenser investigation into the death of Special Agent Alex Langhorne wife, Cynthia.
Wow, I loved reading Notorious. Carey Baldwin took me on a rollercoaster ride, and I never knew what going to happen next in Notorious until I read the last page. The more I read The Cassidy and Spenser series more I have falling love with Carey Baldwin characters Dr Caitlyn Cassidy and Special Agent Atticus Spenser. Carey Baldwin got me engaged with Dr Caitlyn Cassidy and Special Agent Atticus Spenser because they are different to other partnerships. I like the way, Dr Caitlyn Cassidy is a forensic psychiatrist, and Special Agent Atticus Spenser is FBI Profiler compliment each other throughout Notorious. I love Carey Baldwin portrayal of her characters and the way they intertwined with the plot of Notorious. I do enjoy Carey Baldwin writing style that ensures that her readers get in engage with her stories.

Well developed characters, villain is hired to find the dairy of Dallas socialite Cynthia Longhorns. She was murdered during the fundraising ball. Politics, romance even Fort Worth stock yards and longhorns. This story will make a good series, Amazon should look into it.
Oooo fans of Cassidy and Spenser will for sure want to read this one.. That's all I'm saying...
LOL Seriously there is some good stuff that we've been waiting for in this one.. And if that's not enough we get the goods on Spenser's past and his family..
Yeah cant really talk to much about specifics of this book as they would all be spoilers.. So I will just say I liked all the surprises...
I was excited to read the new Cassidy & Spenser book "Notorious" by Carey Baldwin and I was not disappointed! I have grown to love these characters and watching their relationship grow as they work together to solve crimes. In this book it becomes very personal as they are called in to assist a fellow FBI agent who's wife has been murdered. The local police are targeting him as the killer but Caitlin is sure he is innocent and what she discovers will blow you away! This book, as usual, is full of exciting action but it will also tug hard at your heartstrings.
Intricately plotted mystery with murder, blackmail, politics, messy family ties, philandering spouses, and lies enough to liven the story. There is romance but it doesn’t overwhelm the mystery storyline.
Excellent protagonists with foibles enough to make them human but not OTT as to render them cliches. Forensic psychiatrist Caitlin Cassidy & FBI profiler Atticus Spenser are sent to exculpate Dutch Langhorne, an FBI agent suspected of killing his cheating, socialite wife Cindy.
As Spenser and Cassidy investigate, someone (hiding behind a voice scrambler) sends an assassin to kill them and to also recover the dead wife’s missing diary. If Spenser & Cassidy rule out the FBI agent, did the assassin kill his wife or was it someone else? Also: Who is the assassin and why is he after them? They must also find the missing diary, unmask the assassin’s client, and figure out why the mysterious client is so focused on killing them.
Although this was my first Carey Baldwin mystery, I enjoyed her writing, and I recommend this book.
Book #3 takes place within days of book #2, and I have no clue how Caity is still standing. She has been shot, beaten bloody, and almost killed numerous times in the first two books. In book #3 she and her partner Spense are again in danger trying to find the killer of a F.B.I. Members wife. There is a lot of twist and turns in this book, and though I really liked it, it felt rushed. Especially the personal turmoil part of the couples relationship. I honestly would have liked the conflict to have extended beyond this book. It had the potential to make a stronger relationship between the two main characters. In fact Spense being conflicted had so much potential for character growth. As with the other books in the series the 'guest' characters are well written, but the resolution of the plot I saw coming a mile away.
Yes I'm off to read book four, as it is a fun series.
I absolutely love this series. The character development and relationship development between Spense and Caity is amazing. Spense and Caity are called to Dallas to help Dutch and FBI agent that Spense worked with before. His wife has been murdered and he's a suspect. Dutch shares a life-changing secret with Caity. He convinces her not to tell Spense. Caity knows this is not the right answer and her delay in telling him causes a rift between them. Spense is angry but after talking to Dutch he finally understands the truth. He needs to figure out how to deal with it but knows he has to help clear Dutch first. The resolution was satisfying. I love Caity and Spenser. What a great team.
I really am enjoying this series. I love all things related to profiling, so this series is right up my alley. The "bad guy" was easy to discern, but still a fun read to figure out how they would prove it. Great twist, great conflicts within the story with the characters, and a strong overall story line. I am officially a fan.
If you can figure this out before it's fully exposed in the book, you have my full admiration!
I never saw that coming!!
By now you'll be pretty familiar with Spense and Caity, so I won't go crazy with this review, but this may be my favorite book of them. The way they interact, the danger the face and the bonds they form are amazing! Happy Reading!
This is the first book I've read of Carey Baldwin's, and I enjoyed it even though I pretty much had the whole thing solved and the "Monster Behind the Monster" figured out early. Still, the FBI characters were interesting enough to keep me entertained. However, by the end the loyalty and love of agents for the FBI and their jobs was getting to be a bit schmaltzy - for me anyway.
This book had the best plot of all, but didn’t leave me wanting more like the first did. The trick ending when the hitman died was a great move and the ending was predictable yet held a good twist. I felt like the White House plot was brought up out of no where though, and while it provides a good Segway into the next book, it seems kind of random at the time

I loved this book! I am reading the Cassidy & Spencer novels out of order. It doesn’t matter because you pick up the story line and know what is happening with the characters. I love psychological thrillers, mysteries and this one even has a little romance in it, not too much, just enough. Well done, Carey!
Trust impedes a family reunion for years. A murder exposes the lie. Coercion, bribery, blackmail and infidelity; and romance. All weaves a quick, exciting read. But the who done it is not well developed. Needs more clues before the final chapter.
Fun read, quick pace, and just enough suspense. I picked this one up at RWA and got it signed by the author who was very nice. Didn't realize it was the third in the series, but had no problem just jumping into the story and believing in the attraction between Caity and Spense.
Good character development in this third book of the series. Enjoyed getting to know Dutch as their third wheel. I have already ordered the other books in the series, so yes I am hooked.
