Missy's cupcake shop and a nearby ice cream shop join forces to make their most popular product yet, but when the ice cream sandwich/cupcake combo poisons a customer, Missy and Detective Beckett find themselves facing a deadly combination of mystery and a decades-past vendetta.
As this series progresses, any pretense on actually producing a book that reads like a polished, finished product has disappeared. This one barely comes across as an expanded outline. There is next to no suspense. There is next to no worldbuilding (I suppose this one could be argued away since this is book 7 in a series). There is no character growth (either through the course of this book, or across the series thus far). In fact, I would go so far as to say that the characters are devolving, rather than evolving. And on top of that, this is a mystery, and there is NONE. As with the last couple books in this series, the SECOND the murderer appears on the screen, you KNOW it's him. Why? Because he's the only new fucking character in the whole damn book, and we are given absolutely no other suspects.
I really don't know what's worse: the fact that I'm STILL trudging through this series, or the fact that there are 25 more books in the series, and I'm a masochist enough to get through them all instead of just throwing up my hands and screaming uncle.
Missy has been working extra long hours to create her Special Cupcake of the Day and it is taking its toll. Looking for new ideas, she gathers her teams from both stores, as well as her friend, Echo. Echo owns Sweet Love, the ice cream shop across the street from Missy's Cupcake shop. Ben, the manager of the LaChance store, suggests that they pool their product lines - something that combines cupcakes and ice cream. The new idea is to be called Sweet Creme Sandwiches.
The sandwiches are a great success and Missy is approached by a man named Jonathan Michener. Michener represents the Creamy Delight Frozen Treat Company. The company wants to buy her product idea and produce it on a grand scale. Missy is very emphatic that she not interested in selling the idea or the product. That evening, Chas gets a phone call, while he and Missy are having dinner. Missy needs to talk to a detective at the LaChance Police Department regarding a murder. It seems that Mrs. Doris Nash has been poisoned with one of the Sweet Creme Sandwiches. After the interview, Missy is talking with Chas when she gets a frantic call from Echo. Somebody is terrorizing her.
Who killed Mrs. Nash? Who is terrorizing Echo? Are the two cases related? Will Missy and Echo sell their product idea? Can Missy and Echo figure out who is trying to destroy them?
This story is a quick read, but at the same time, being a very complex mystery. There are lots of twists, turns, and red herrings to keep you guessing throughout.
Loved this book! Yum, yum, yum! Missy, is a strong main character. Her relationship with boyfriend, Chas is so sweet. I found myself smiling on many occasions at Chas's thoughtfulness and tenderness towards Missy. I loved hearing about all the delicious Southern food and the cupcakes! I especially loved the descriptions of the new Sweet Cremes (ice cream cupcakes)! I really enjoyed the suspenseful parts and the mystery kept me guessing the whole time. This is an awesome culinary cozy mystery series!
Missy is working so hard she barely has a life so she holds a meeting with her staff to toss around ideas about what can they do and they come up with the idea of a cupcake filled with Echo's vegan ice cream and it turns out to be an enormous hit so much so that now they are being pestered by a rep from a big ice cream maker who wants to buy the recipes for the sweet treat and when they turn it down that's when things start to go wrong, someone is murdered with one of Missy's cupcakes, Echo's shop is vandalized and her home is broken into, then they broke into Missy's house. Lots of suspicious happenings going on, more than a few twists and turns and definitely a couple of shocking surprises but in the end the murderer if found. Great read.
Love watching Missy and Chas fall in love all over again!
Missy and Echo have a wonderful new product. They’ve combined Missy’s cupcakes and Echos ice cream and everyone loves it. Even a corporate giant who wants to buy their idea. They’ve told him no and now a dead body appears, vandalism at the shop and at home is occurring and Missy thinks the corporate executive is behind it. Is it him or someone else with a grudge?
Enjoyed this story tremendously! It seemed a bit shorter (or I read a bit faster, who knows!) but there was a lot packed into the story. I KNOW this is a cozy and NOT a romance series, but some of my favorite parts of every book are Chas and Missy’s interactions and developing relationship. I hope it moves along a bit faster as the series continues, because it only adds to the story and doesn’t detract at all. At least, in my opinion. :)
This mystery is short, light, clean, bubbly, and cozy. I couldn’t sleep last night, and this book was the perfect length to help me refocus before getting back to sleep. I enjoyed meeting the characters, and the recipe for peach cupcakes is something I plan to tackle this weekend as soon as I get some peach preserves from the store. The food mentioned in this book will make you hungry!
I love this series !! Ready to read book 8 and excited for the next story. These books are about friendship, love and tragedy . I respect that all the suspense including murder just brings everyone closer. I love that the laid back Echo levels out the feisty Missy . I love the way Missy takes chances and helps others .
I loved this series the first time and I'm falling in love with it all over again! Taking a walk down memory lane with Missy, Chas, and Echo has been nothing short of delightful and I can't wait for book 8!
I had no idea who the bad guy was. It was a thrilling book and I loved it. All the characters were great. I liked the rewrites and nothing felt sappy. This series of rewritten books are really good. And I like the recipes at the end.
I just love this series and I’m enjoying the development of the characters and the plots. I just can’t put the book down until I’m finished. Thank you for a well written series.
Missy and Echo are neck-deep in Murder yet again. Entertaining story line although again far-fetched. Very quick read. I'm still wondering about Missy's relationship. How has it not evolved all these months?
I really enjoyed the book. I don't think the book was sappy at all. I think it's great that Ben and cheryl are finally getting married. I can't wait to read the next book.
The is book seven in the Frosted Love series and it's enjoyable. The story quickly grabbed my attention and held my interest until the last page was turned. The story moves at a brisk pace so it's easy to read in a short amount of time (especially in one sitting). I really like the characters in this series, they're likable and believable. I thought the culprit was a little obvious but there is plenty of suspense leading up to the who and why at the end. I look forward to reading more in this series and getting to know more about these characters.
A cute and entertaining read. I read it quickly, probably in about an hour. This is the first book in the series that I have read, but I had no problem catching on to the major relationships in the book. We don't really learn anything about the murder victim, but since the murder is related to the bakery, we become invested in solving it. I enjoyed this book and think it would be fun to read the others in the series.
I have been enjoying the Cupcake series and have seen the authors improvement in writing as the series progresses. This is a quick read but a well written and fun read. The characters are somewhat believable and they present new adventures with each book. They are clean reads and I look forward to each one.
I couldn't wait to turn the page. It was an enjoyable, intriguing, fun story to read. It's short enough to read quickly. I would recommend it because it's unpredictable.
Here is another great quick murder mystery, that's full of suspense and drama.. This book is excellent and shows friendship can help get you through even the toughest times, or crimes..
I'm getting a little frustrated. One person can only be a murder suspect so many times before it gets ridiculous. Branch out a little. These books are a little too cookie cutter for my taste. Hoping to see a change as I read the next one
