To love someone, or to be loved, through tough circumstances is a gift—an opportunity to experience the fragile beauty of those made in God's image. And it's a reminder that all people stand broken and dependent on God. In When Life Isn't What They Didn't Tell Us in Sunday School, Colleen Swindoll Thompson weaves together biblical truth, practicality, and her own growth experiences as a mother of a son with special needs. She writes with raw honesty about her personal crisis of faith as well as the hardship and humor that come with learning to trust God through difficult times. This book was just what I needed to accept difficulties and trust our Sovereign God. I will read this again and again because I will need to be reminded of the truth of God's Word. It is obvious that Colleen has walked through difficult waters and understands our honest feelings. She points us to our Lord who deeply loves us and has a purpose for whatever we are going through. I especially liked the chapter on the four key questions to ask oneself and how the answers to them will directly affect the direction of our lives. A must read for those going through difficulties or those wanting to encourage someone else who is struggling!
Colleen writes of raising a child with learning disabilities. She is not the story teller her father is, but she offers pointers while sharing her own story. * Learn to suffer well. * Contemplating a God of love actually produces positive changes in the brain.
