Tf was that ending omg
I feel like when you spend so long cooking a new recipe and everything looks amazing but then you try it and it tastes like garbage.
What the actual hell just happened?
It honestly feels like that ending was written by someone else. It makes absolutely no sense. I would've been happier if she had actually died (like she was supposed to). Like, it makes absolutely no sense for her to magically recover and then NO ONE BOTHERED TO LOOK FOR HIM AND TELL HIM.
I don't understand, I hated it. I knew people were hating on the ending but i thought to myself "I can't be that bad". Well, it surely can! It was that bad!
I understand the desire to make them end together and give them a happy ending, but this story was never built to have a happy ending. We knew it from the start. The story all along was bittersweet and quite dark, this isn't a cozy love story. A bittersweet ending was the most logical answer, but seems like logic went flying out of the window and instead we got this nonsensical and ridiculous ending. I'm sooo disappointed.

Omg its over. This might seem a bit controversial, but I really like the ending. It was bittersweet to me like it still gave the Angst that people wanted but a better ending than the one that was set up. In my opinion. It also has been announced that they’re going to be doing bonus chapters so I’m excited to read that.

Viendo las reviews, creo que no lo he terminado porque lo leo online y no se después de qué capítulo acaba el volumen; porque eso no me ha parecido tan malo el final, idk.

first of all, it's been a while since i wrote a review on goodreads so this one isn't as flashy as the old ones, haha.
anyway, i'd like to point out that while the entire manga had me bawling and laughing majority of the time, i read this book in good faith. and luckily for it, i'd give it this rating.
one, it really had me invested in the characters. i thought i'd be like “eh, this is so typical and cliché” but it mostly had its moments of just utter “wow, im at a loss for words.” shinpei had such a rough time growing up and it hurt me to see the way his and satoko's relationship just went through up until the ending.
two, i already knew what would happen to the father. what mostly pissed me off is im not very into characters that every other side character is fascinated of. if u look at the manga, ko and even the spoiled child of that rich guy (i didn't even bother to remember their names, os please correct me if im wrong) were already into satoko. like i get that she's beautiful but when i think of her age, i just can't see why you'd be into a 16 year old so easily. but who i am to judge when this was said to be in the meiji era.
lastly, i had such a wrong interpretation of this at the start. by the ending, i thought that's how they turned out in the afterlife. but it was just the outcome of them wasting time apart because shinpei left early...? it really baffled me how it ended up there but it wasn't enough to make me rate the manga that low. i'd say it was worth it to read and i enjoy crying to couples that yearn for each other.
nonetheless, i actually prefer the way it turned out, regardless if it was gonna be the afterlife or not. im just happy for the two. they both got the happiness they deserved even if it took them time and space to reach other.
so grateful to have read this in my life.

Satoko recibe una petición de matrimonio por parte de Mitsuharu Okumura, un nuevo pretendiente con una posición social y económica muy privilegiadas.
Aunque su estado de salud es delicado, Satoko decide mantenerse fiel a sus sentimientos.
Mientras, Shinpei despliega todos sus recursos para poder reencontrarse con ella.
Si el anterior tomo se presentaba como un punto de inflexión, este es un puente. Y tengo muy claro que está aquí para conectar dos puntos de la historia de forma irreversible y para encaminar la historia hacia un final trágico.
Más allá del relato romántico, la boda de las luciérnagas es una historia sobre las expectativas y de como estas nos moldean, nos constriñen y nos limitan. Es un relato que muestra que aunque lo que se nos prometa sea hermoso, cálido y confortable, es la lealtad a una misma la que da las fuerzas para seguir.
La trama, como siempre, sorprende con sus giros y consigue que se te salte el corazón.
La autora es una superdotada en el manejo del lenguaje del medio y es que, a través del arte, consigue transmitirte todas las emociones de los personajes. Esto la convierte en una obra tremendamente inmersiva, que sigue viviendo en tu cabeza aunque hayas terminado.
La fuerza que consigue a través de la imagen siempre engrandece las situaciones a las que le quiere dar énfasis. En este número voy a destacar tres momentos.
En las primeras páginas hay unos paneles que transmiten la disonancia sobre lo que se ha hecho de una forma magistral.
En la reunión en el salón, las imágenes transmiten toda la emocionalidad y el conflicto sin necesidad de pronunciar ni una sola palabra.
En la última escena en la habitación se siente una tensión tan opresiva que ni la historieta extra del final consigue aliviar.
Ya queda poco para llegar al final y estoy con el corazón en un puño, porque presiento que no va a ser feliz y que me va a destruir.

WHAT THE F*CK ALL WAS THAT?!?!?!
Now that that's over, I would still recommend this series because at the core of it all, it's a fun read that will pull at all of your emotions.

I really think this series lost its soul when the big bad was revealed to be her doggone daddy in the most convoluted way ever.
I loved Satoko's confidence and determination throughout this series before she was turned into a sad sack. And, given her circumstances, I understand, but it felt like a character regression. This series made me root for a yandere/overly obsessed dude's love story, and though I wanted Satoko and Shinpei together, I was counting down the inevitable.
But with this ending, what's the point of the firefly theme??? Because the last of their life is fleeting, maybe. Somebody lying. Either Satoko was married and had to wait to be single again, Kotaro purposefully kept them apart, or Shinpei is delulu. This feels like either editor meddling or an author who didn't plan or had to drastically change their ending.
On a positive note, I enjoyed Shinpei's silent breakdown. The showing was immaculate. How Kotaro completely blurs out of focus, and Shinpei can no longer deny she's gone. Or was before, y'know.
This series is still worth reading. Just temper your expectations for the ending.

not this sht again…aaaaaaaaggggggghhhhhhhh. once again a man comes in, she is being kind to them, he starts liking her, decides things for her even though she doesn’t want anything from them. she says i will go to hell with him. do you think she was joking. no sir she was being honest to you. why man doesn’t understand being kind does not mean she wants something from you like love. why they don’t understand kindness is just comes from someone just being good. i am getting more angry when i think about it more. ugh. i am so pissed off. what are we reading? (side note my girl looked so good in that dress. i love it. also why shinpei was kinda you know…ho- i mean also look good in that suit.)

Oh how the mighty have fallen
(TBH I’m not sure if I actually read volume 10 because I’m reading the chapters online now and google won’t give me a straight answer which chapters are in which volume at this point) regardless, this manga has gone to shit and I’m so disappointed. The story and characters are such a mess and nothing makes sense and the stakes don’t matter anymore. if I were to guess what happened, I feel like the series was scheduled to wrap up (everything even felt like it was heading to a climactic and cohesive ending 2 or so volumes ago!) but then the series got an extension and they added this random ass arc that was probably from another story idea. Ugh I’m so disappointed I don’t even want to finish this anymore.

i think the mitsuhara boy is charming in his own way. he's nice to his servants and animals. his dad is nice. but i hate that we were shown a 'perfect' character to contrast it with shinpei. idk if that was the point but like....
anyways shinpei's back. he snuck in the okumura estate by being satoko's dad's guard. i actually forgot how the hell he managed to joined hands with her dad. then i remember they made a deal before. i really read thru the previous chapter so fast i forgot some details.
this vol was kinda boring. i read thru it fast so i can get to the good bits (aka shinpei & satoko reunited)
them being in mainland for the past 2 volumes have been not fun at all. wbk the island is the best.

okay…I’m confused 😭 I honestly think the story lost steam once Satoko was introduced to the duke character. everything felt all over the place and not like the original story I was enjoying. that ending was a mess…I’m honestly just going to pretend it was Shinpei’s hallucination in his old age…I’m content with that. I really didn’t like how the author portrayed Satoko in the last few volumes. She went from being a character I loved to a character I would roll my eyes at. I also wanted to get a bit more of a glimpse into Shinpei’s past, but other than that the story isn’t terrible. Just a few weird volumes leading up to a weird ending. I’d give the entire series a 6/10!

Sometimes sad ending is a better ending... but instead we got this 😅 Still, main themes in this novela were important and were approached wonderfully. I really liked historical and culturals moments integrated there. We could also see many characters growth, we get to see why they are like that and I'm very thankful for that.

The best of their youth and health being apart and then meeting again at old age just to be parted again and this time for good (having in mind their old age)? sure it has beauty of it's own, but I wouldn't call it a bittersweet ending 😅 not even mentioning the miracles healing and living wayyyyy to long than it's statistically possible😂

Alguien me esta grabando porque esto tiene que ser una broma, al principio todo bien ella eventualmente murió lo cual no fue una sorpresa porque ella estaba bastante enferma di mi lloradita y lloré aún más viendo como el intento salir adelante y buscarle un significado a su vida y después me pones que luego de como 50 años el va a la isla y resulta que ella está viva

Im not sure i like the ending 😭 its even sadder and more pitiful than if she had just died. I mean i still like it, but you telling me nobody bothered searching for him to find him?? Followed the rumors of the man protecting villages without killing? That dukes son would have been able to find him hello??
Like ok for dramatic effect a few years go by but not litteral decades?? Like theres at least 40-50 yrs that they wasted. Bro im getting madder the more i think about it. Anyway 😭 lets see if those spinoff chapters dont make me even more mad

Hoy me he leído el capitulo final de esta historia, no sé si es porque me lo he ido leyendo mientras se ha ido actualizando o que pero para mi va a ser 5 estrellas solo por los últimos capitulos desgarradores, son las 6 y media de la mañana y no puedo dejar de llorar.
Es un final tan triste y a la vez tan bonito.
Aunque empezó de una manera cuestionable, no me arrepiento de leerme esta historia. La empecé cuando apenas llevaba 30 capitulos sacados y hoy ha terminado con su capitulo 79.

I read this Manga not taking it very seriously. I'm a big girl and very much know the difference between fantasy and reality, this story and this relationship was an over the top fun albeit sometimes sad fantasy. So, why am I supposed to take it so seriously and want to tie everything in a morally perfect bow in the end? The journey did not match the ending...we didn't need this ending. Just dissapointing honestly...

16 años tiene la criatura y mira al pelotudo que eligió para compartir el resto de su vida kjjj cuando dice “me pregunto cómo será el infierno?” KJJJJJJ cerra el orto flaca ya no tiene sentido justificar el “le perdono todo porque lo amo” porque a) se conocen hace un mes y b) Shinpei hizo cosas imperdonables que van en contra de los ideales de la prota. Pero bueno, veremos cómo avanza la historia…

¿Cómo me la vas a curar y al mismo tiempo hacer que se desencuentren la mayor parte de sus vidas porque él no pudo soportar el creer que se había muerto y SE FUE SIN RUMBO?!?!?!?! Crueldad nunca antes leída, jajajaja lpm, que broncaaaa.

Mostly, I enjoyed the whole serie of the manga. But I had change the ending in my mind, otherwise it would be to sad. I decided that after he thought she's dead, he traveled but only for 5 years, then returned and realised she's alive. THAT ending is far more less sad, actually it's very happy.

Estoy velando a estos personajes como si fuesen mis amigos personales de toda la vida!!!! No sé qué voy a hacer cuando este manga se termine, ojalá sea eterno.
