The Thin Line Duet #1

The Thin Line Between Love & Hate

Rate this book
The line between love and hate is so thin that it's almost transparent.
Sometimes, I don’t even know what side I’m on.
After the torture I’ve endured…
What I’ve somehow managed to survive…
The last place I thought I’d find myself was back here, behind these high walls and massive iron gates.
Home.
Where I should be safe.
But it still feels like the prison it was when I was a child.
All I find here are complicated feelings about my past and more fear of what is to come…
Until Ellis becomes my refuge from the storm life has become.
His strong arms, intensely protective nature, and promises to slay my demons give me something I’ve never had before—hope.
Except, it turns out, there are some things you can’t outrun.
Hate is easy.
Lust is primal.
Love is dangerous.
And I don’t know if I’ll survive them…

The Thin Line Between Love and Hate is the first book in the brand new angsty contemporary romance duet from USA Today Bestselling Author Gwyn McNamee featuring a woman on the run returning home to seek refuge, scorching attraction, an obsessive, protective billionaire hero, intense spicy scenes, a reverse age gap, and secrets that will leave you reeling.

Holy crap. This was an intense one. Kind of think you have it figured out and then...nope! Ellis is a dream and so intent on being there for Lorelei.

I'm sort of nervous for the 2nd book!

✨ My first ARC read! ✨

I’ve never read anything by this author before, and honestly, I had NO idea what I was getting myself into! I didn’t even know what the book was about. I just downloaded it and jumped right in!

Right from the beginning, this book was giving major suspense vibes! A creepy old mansion, a main character who may or may not be losing her mind, and the constant question of whether someone is actually watching her and strategically moving their chess pieces behind the scenes. 👀

I’ll be honest, I spent a good portion of this book wondering how I felt about it. Suspense isn’t usually my genre, and I wasn’t sure where this story was going or if it was for me.

One thing that really didn’t work for me was the romance. I’m not a huge fan of characters falling in love within a couple of weeks, especially when I don’t feel like there’s been enough relationship development to justify those feelings. I needed more buildup, more connection, and more of a storyline between them to make their relationship believable. The romance just felt rushed, and honestly, it was kind of meh for me.

BUT THEN THAT ENDING! 🤯

Talk about a cliffhanger! Just when I wasn’t sure how I felt about this book, that ending pulled me right back in! Now I NEED to read the second book to find out how this whole story plays out!

Overall, this wasn’t a favorite for me, but I’m glad I stuck with it! Even though the romance didn’t completely win me over, the suspense and that cliffhanger definitely left me curious.

I’m happy my very first ARC pushed me outside my comfort zone and introduced me to something different! Sometimes stepping away from your usual genres is exactly what you need, even if the book ends up being just an okay read! 📚💕

If I could give this book 10 stars I would!!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

What a book......it kept me enthralled right to the very cliff ending.
This book is based on Lorelei who comes home after her father passes away to sort out the house and the businesses.

She hasn't been home in 20 years. She feels like she is being constantly watched (she is as there are chapters in the book from the POV of the watcher). But who is the watcher???

Lorelei heads to her fathers lawyers to sort out the estate and she comes across Ellis - a young lawyer.
Ellis has a fascination for Lorelei, starts to cement himself into her life and Lorelei loves it. She feels needed and wanted.

Then the big twist comes that I didn’t see coming 😲

I absolutely loved this book as it was full of intrigue, passion, yearn for being wanted and I couldn't put it down!!!

Now I have to wait for the next book to see what happens!!!!!

The Thin Line Between Love & Hate is book one in The Thin Line Duet.

Lorelei has come home after her father has passed and deals with the emotions she has pushed down since leaving home. Luckily she has someone there to help her through any trying times. Ellis was such a strong rock for her to have as she is navigating dealing with loss and coming back home. Toss in someone who is playing games with her, literally and figuratively and you've got a mysterious read. Then we get the ending where secrets are revealed. I can't wait to see where we go next.

No absolutely not! Please tell me that this book didn’t end right there? I knew it was going to end on a cliffhanger, but right then like that?

I knew it! Knew it! OMG!

I can’t even come up with a review that makes good sense right now. All I can say is that this book hooked me at the very beginning and I read most of it on one night.

If you have the chance to read it, please do.

Now, I not so patiently wait for The Thin Line Between Right and Wrong which releases in December 2026.

"Checkmate" ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh. My. God.

I DID NOT SEE THIS COMING.

Lorelei didn't want to go back home, but she was sort of forced to. The ghosts, the bad memories, and the horrible feelings were things she didn't want back in her life.

Thankfully, Ellis was there to help her. He was kind, attentive, and SO good to her. Even while she was fighting her past and this monstrous presence, Ellis was there for her.

That's love, right?
He wouldn't do anything to hurt her. Right?

I loved this book, and I can't wait to read the next one!
Thank you so much for the ARC opportunity!

I don’t even know what to say about this story. Twisted. It’s a good thing the second book is coming soon.
Just a taste!!
Storms are unpredictable. They can appear without warning. Building rapidly on the horizon. A wild clash of opposing forces that creates a dangerous cocktail. Dark and foreboding, they violently churn up things long lost to the murky depths.

There's something about a romance where you genuinely don't know who to trust that makes everything SO much more interesting.

And this one definitely has that going for it.

Lorelei is running from her past, only to end up right back in the place where so much of her trauma started. Which, honestly, sounds like an absolute nightmare. Imagine finally getting away from everything that hurt you, just to find yourself back in the same house surrounded by all those memories.

And apparently, the past isn't quite finished with her either.

What I found interesting about Lorelei is that she isn't written as someone who's always been innocent or made the right decisions. She acknowledges that she wasn't necessarily a great person when she was younger, and I actually appreciate that.

I don't need every FMC to have a spotless past. Give me someone who's made mistakes, regrets things, and is trying to become a better person.

That's a lot more interesting than someone who never does anything wrong.

Then there's Ellis Thatcher. 👀

A wealthy, mysterious man who wears glasses, has some very particular interests in the bedroom, and seems more than willing to get involved in Lorelei's complicated life.

Because of course the man handling her father's estate has to be attractive AND a little suspicious.

We couldn't just have a normal attorney who files paperwork and goes home?

I liked the tension surrounding Ellis because there's clearly more to him than what we initially see. And when you've already got a story full of secrets and questionable intentions, adding a love interest who isn't entirely an open book makes things even more interesting.

Also, the glasses?

I understand the appeal. That's all I'm saying.

The romance definitely brings the heat, but what makes this story stand out is the suspense happening alongside it.

I particularly liked the idea of having a second POV where we don't immediately know who's narrating. There's something unsettling about getting glimpses into someone's darker intentions without knowing exactly where the threat is coming from.

It makes you question everyone.

And I LOVE when a book gives me a reason to be suspicious.

The secrets, the threats, and Lorelei's past all create this feeling that something is about to go very, very wrong. I think that kind of atmosphere works especially well in dark romance because the danger isn't limited to the relationship itself.

There are actual consequences waiting outside the bedroom.

Speaking of the bedroom, this book isn't exactly shy about the spice.

Ellis has a kink that might catch some readers off guard, and I appreciate when a romance gives its characters something a little different rather than recycling the exact same dynamic I've read a hundred times.

But can we discuss the cliffhanger?!

Because apparently ending a book at a reasonable stopping point was simply NOT an option.

I understand that this is a duet, but there's something particularly evil about getting invested in a mystery and then having the story stop when you desperately want answers.

Overall, this is the kind of romance that combines several things I enjoy: complicated characters, a mysterious MMC, a heroine with a messy past, plenty of spice, and enough suspense to make me question what's actually happening.

It's not just about two people being attracted to each other. There's a much bigger story unfolding, and I'm interested in seeing how all those secrets eventually come together.

If you enjoy dark romantic suspense, billionaire MMCs, reverse age gaps, obsessive and protective men, morally complicated characters, hidden identities, and spicy romance, this is one to check out.

Just be prepared for that cliffhanger.

SECRETS. A WOMAN FIGHTING HER PAST. A MAN WHO MIGHT BE HER SALVATION… OR HER UNDOING.

Oh my goodness, this book really gets under your skin and refuses to let go! The Thin Line Between Love and Hate by Gwyn McNamee had me completely hooked. The angst is intense, the tension is delicious, the chemistry is combustible and the mystery kept me questioning everything. I was emotionally invested from beginning to end and what a ride this was!

When home feels like a prison, can love finally become a safe haven?

My heart truly ached for Lorelei. Yes, she comes from wealth, but money cannot replace the love, safety and security every child deserves. With a controlling father and a past filled with pain, it’s easy to understand why she wanted to break free. Returning to the place she once called home, hoping to find refuge behind those familiar walls, brings a whole new wave of complicated emotions. Home should be a safe haven, but what happens when it holds some of your deepest wounds? Let’s just say Lorelei definitely didn’t hit the jackpot in the parenting department!

Enter Ellis: protective, intense and dangerously irresistible!

Oh, ELLIS! Talk about serious book boyfriend energy! This man has that perfectly delicious combination of a fiercely protective nature, an intense presence and a deliciously dirty side. He knows how to be romantic and how to turn up the heat! The chemistry between him and Lorelei is electric and the tension had me hanging on every interaction. Their connection is impossible to ignore and I loved watching it unfold.

But as much as Ellis seems determined to protect Lorelei, danger and secrets are lurking beneath the surface. Someone may be watching her, but is Ellis truly prepared for everything she’s running from? And what if the secrets threatening their future are closer than either of them realizes? Without giving anything away, let’s just say the mystery goes far beyond the walls of the manor!

Gwyn McNamee does a fantastic job of weaving emotional angst, scorching chemistry, suspense and complicated family dynamics into a story that keeps you turning the pages. I loved how the tension builds and how the characters’ painful pasts influence their choices. There’s just enough mystery to keep you guessing and the growing attraction between Ellis and Lorelei makes it even harder to put this book down.

And THAT ENDING!

Although one of my theories finally came to light, something I had suspected but wasn’t entirely sure about, I still wasn’t prepared for the emotional damage! I was sitting there thinking, “I KNEW IT… BUT ALSO, WHAT?!”

And honestly, I felt like throwing my Kindle across the room. Because, GWYN, WHY??? Why would you leave us hanging like THAT?! I may have suspected where things were heading, but getting confirmation didn’t make it any less shocking. Now I need answers and I need to know what happens to Ellis and Lorelei!

Gwyn McNamee, you cannot do this to me and expect me to be okay!

If you love angsty contemporary romance featuring a protective billionaire hero, sizzling age-gap tension, a heroine fighting to reclaim herself, complicated family relationships and secrets that keep you guessing, this one deserves a spot on your reading list.

Gwyn has delivered an emotionally gripping, steamy, suspense-filled first installment that left me invested in Lorelei, thoroughly intrigued by Ellis and desperate for the next book. I loved the intensity, the emotional depth and the way the mystery kept me questioning what was really going on.

Hate is easy. Lust is primal. Love is dangerous. And apparently, so is finishing a book when you desperately need the next one!

I thoroughly enjoyed this one and cannot wait to see what Gwyn has in store for Ellis and Lorelei next!

I’ve read several of Gwyn McNamee’s books, but The Thin Line Between Love & Hate stands out as edgier and spicier. It’s the first in a duet, and luckily, the wait for the finale isn’t long. After that cliffhanger, I can’t wait for the second book.

I really liked how Gwyn McNamee set up the points of view in this book. One is from the heroine, and the other is a mystery character the reader has to figure out, especially since this person is clearly up to something sinister.

Lorelei, the heroine, is on the run and has come back home, where she has a lot of painful memories and trauma, especially because of how her father treated her and how her mother ran away from her responsibilities. Now that her father is gone, she’s still not comfortable being in the house she’s grown up in, and I don’t blame her. Some things are revealed about how she was treated, but she also gets into how she was when she was younger. She wasn’t such a nice person, but it’s obvious she’s changed. The more she is at home, the more she starts to realize that her past may end up coming back to haunt her. When she meets Ellis Thatcher, who is handling her father’s will and estate, he will become someone integral in her life who will help her get through being back home, as well as figure out other things that trouble her.

I really liked Lorelei’s character and am glad the book is told mainly in her POV. It’s obvious from the get-go that she is in danger, not only from her past, but from what happens in her present. She doesn’t really have anyone to turn to in the book until she meets Ellis. I feel for her character, even if she thinks she was a bad person in her past. Everyone can change.

I’m glad Lorelei had someone like Ellis, who ends up in her life, even though he has somewhat of a mystery with him. He has Lorelei doing things that she normally wouldn’t do, but it’s undeniable that the two have an instant attraction to one another. He does have a specific kink that throws off Lorelei and me. I didn’t expect it from his character, but it definitely made the story very interesting in the bedroom. If you have a thing for guys with glasses, you will definitely like Ellis. He’s described as wearing them, and let’s just say Lorelei loves his glasses on him.

This first book in the duet is full of mystery, suspense, secrets, threats, and some very spicy scenes. I’m sure Gwyn has even more surprises in store for the second book, especially after that shocking cliffhanger. Here was one reader who was in shock and needs the second book like yesterday. Overall, it’s a heart-pounding, suspenseful read, and I give it 4.5 stars.

Cliffhanger: Yes.

Would I recommend this book? Yes, absolutely. If you like dark, angsty romances with mystery, suspense, and spice, this one’s for you.

What to expect:
✔️Billionaire Romance
✔️Reverse Age Gap
✔️Protective & Obsessive Hero
✔️Woman on the Run
✔️Very Spicy

Loved it / Slightly obsessed

Holy shit that cliffy!

🖤 Dark Romance
🔥 Reverse Age Gap
👀 Stalker Vibes
🏚️ Creepy Mansion
♟️ Psychological Suspense
🤫 Hidden Secrets
💥 Jaw-Dropping Cliffhanger
❤️‍🔥 Protective MMC

I went into this one practically blind, knowing only that it was dark romance with a reverse age gap. Honestly, that was more than enough to get me interested! 🤣

From the very beginning, there was an uncomfortable, creepy atmosphere that had me questioning everything. At first I thought Lorelei was an unreliable narrator. The tension kept building, the mystery had me suspicious of just about everyone and every damn thing. I found myself paying close attention to every little detail and jotting down notes for later. I was convinced there was more than meets the eye going on and there was...something...about Ellis.

Ellis is such an interesting character, and I really wanted him to be exactly what Lorelei needed. There was just something about how he believed her whole heartedly from the beginning, no questions asked, that made me root for these two, and I was hoping she might finally get a little happiness. Naturally, that only made me more nervous as things continued to unravel.

And THEN THAT ENDING.

Excuse me?! I knew we were heading toward a cliffy, but I was absolutely not prepared to be yeeted off the cliff with nothing more than a smirk and a "bye bye." My jaw was on the floor, and I immediately ran to my notes to see where I had gone wrong. I have questions. So many questions. Most importantly, I NEED BOOK TWO.

This was my first time reading Gwyn, and I can confidently say it won't be my last. Between the suspense, the twists, the dark atmosphere, the spice, and an ending that leaves you desperate for answers, this one certainly knows how to make an impression.

If you enjoy your dark romance with a healthy dose of mystery and a cliffy that will leave you staring at the last page in disbelief, this one deserves a spot on your TBR.

Thank you, Gwyn and The Smuthood, for the opportunity to read and review this ARC!

I did not see that cliffhanger coming!

Lorelei is back to the one place she never thought she would be - her father's home. After he passed away, she inherited everything and, in doing so, met the new lawyer in town, Ellis. There's an instant spark, and he's the one person she's felt safe with after several months of feeling like she was being watched. Though it seems like someone followed her, as things keep happening in her home that shouldn't. But the more that she opens up to Ellis, the more she lets her guard down. So what happens when one phone call from her mom changes everything?

This is book one of a duet and leaves off on a cliffhanger.

I have so many questions after reading those last three chapters. Did the Watcher know what kind of person Lorelei was when she lived in Cape Blackwell and how she changed her life after she left? Did they know what she knew about her parents' arrangement, which also may have layers that we will uncover? How long has the Watcher been watching her, and is the Watcher two people, or just one with cameras to help them? What all happened in that house that isn't being mentioned, and what drove the secrets that we will hopefully uncover? I am so happy that we don't have to wait long for book two to come out, but there are so many questions that need answers!

I received an advance review copy from The Smuthood Promo, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

ARC Review: Thank you to 𝘈𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘳 𝐆𝐰𝐲𝐧 𝐌𝐜𝐍𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐞 and 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐦𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐜 for the complimentary ARC!

Psychological warfare perfectly demonstrates the art of a chess board and this story kept my eyes open and mind sharp the whole time.

Each chapter represents the corresponding chess moves and I am undoubtedly hooked to finish this game in the next book of the series.

The plot is thrilling, at times you consider who could be the mysterious players, then other times you feel like you are sure except Author Gwyn moves her chess piece again to confuse you.

Our FMC has been forced into a predicament, to return home where she never wanted to be in the first place. Trusting no one and watching over her shoulders constantly makes for a suspiciously thrilling, page turning experience.

Then our MC is just what she needs to regain confidence and realise that she can trust someone to help her and shoulder some of the heavy burden her life has turned into.

The plot keeps changing as these players play. The heat ramps up as tension and emotions become a factor.

Ultimately, as in chess, strategy is key, planning 5 moves ahead could mean survival. Unless your opponent knows your instincts and uses your own defences against you.

Check mate! ♟️

Cannot wait for the next installment... That cliffhanger was intense.

Lorelei is returning to the last place on earth she ever wanted to be. Cape Blackwell and the home she hasn't stepped into since she left at the age of fourteen. The prison she was happy to escape when her father sent her to boarding school.

But now that her father has died, the massive estate is hers. The place she once called prison is now her only refuge, with its ten-foot walls topped with sharp metal spikes.

Because someone is out to destroy her life.

I loved this book, but I now hate one of my favorite authors (in the most loving of ways). This book is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This is book one of a duet so don't expect an HEA, and of all cliffhangers, even though you start to question some minor things in the last chapters of the book, that last page is still an unbelievable shock.

This book is a psychological romantic suspense that will have you at the edge of your seat in this duel POV between Lorelei and The Watcher. The one who is out to punish her and make her life a living hell...

This book is smoking hot and gets more intense as the story progresses. Ellis, the attorney whose arms are her only safety. So many things to say, but they would be spoilers. OMG can't wait for the conclusion.

Highly recommend! But be forewarned. That last page! The shock that leaves you with more questions.

The Thin Line Between Love & Hate is the first story in The Thin Line duet. It is so well-written and suspenseful. I couldn't put it down. I loved the story so much.

Lorelei's life is not going good. She has just lost her father and has come back to the one place she never said she would come back to, her childhood home. After his death she is forced to come back and take care of his house and businesses. She meets with Ellis. She was expecting her father's older lawyer but instead sees this young lawyer. While she was away, her father's lawyer retired and left the business to Ellis. Ellis is very good looking and is seemingly drawn to Lorelei. She sees him as a confidant and eventually enjoys spending nights with him. She is drawn to him and attracted to him. But Lorelei senses that someone is watching her. She can't feel completely comfortable at her father's estate. She has no idea what is to come.

I loved Lorelei's character. She has suffered a loss and has had to come home and face her demons. Her father was cruel to her and never spent the time he should have with her. I enjoyed the suspenseful nature of this story. I could not tell what was coming. But the ending and the cliffhanger were amazingly well done. I look forward to the next part of this story from this talented author.

Thank you to the author for the advanced copy.

*I received this book as an E-ARC from The Smuthood to provide an honest review.*

The Thin Line Between Love and Hate is the first book in a romance duology. This book follows Lorelei as she moves back home to deal with her late father’s estate after not being home since she was 14 years old. Lorelei has a rough relationship with her parents and that can be very well seen throughout the book. Once she gets home you can see how much Lorelei and her father think a like, which helps especially when Lorelei needs something of his.

Ellis is a great MMC. He is HOT and the reverse age gap is amazing. I knew the moment that Ellis came into this story that Ellis was going to be someone that made his presence known and her would make sure that he was ALWAYS around. Lorelei definitely starts to rely on Ellis and it is was kind of nice to see a strong women start to rely on the man.

Overall, I thought this book was good, though it was a little fast paced for my liking. It felt like Lorelei had just come home and started dealing with the estate, when the next thing I know she was hooking up with the first “new” guy she met. I would say this book is good if you need a quick read, though I did find this book a little hard to track at times. Though I would love to continue the story to figure out what happens next because that cliffhanger was great!

Thank you to the author and the team for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I really enjoyed this book! The darker atmosphere, intriguing storyline, and sense that there was always more happening beneath the surface pulled me in right away. I was constantly curious to see how everything would unfold, and the story kept me wanting to know more.

The romance was definitely one of my favourite parts. I loved the chemistry, tension, and dynamic between the characters. Their relationship kept me invested, especially with the darker elements woven throughout the story.

I also really enjoyed the overall atmosphere. There was a mysterious, slightly unsettling feeling that made it easy to get lost in the characters’ world. The mix of romance, secrets, and tension kept things interesting from beginning to end.

My only criticism is that I would have liked a little more time to explore certain aspects of the characters and their relationship. There were moments when I wanted to dive deeper, but overall, I still really enjoyed the reading experience.

Overall, this was an intriguing read with a great combination of romance, tension, and mystery. I’m glad I picked it up, and I’m definitely curious to see where the story goes next!

After everything Lorelei has survived, the last place she wants to be is the home that holds so many painful memories. Yet here she is, trying to find somewhere safe while the past refuses to leave her alone. 😳 And it's not like her own past is simple either. She's made mistakes, has regrets, and now she's back in a place she'd probably rather forget.

And then there's Ellis, a protective billionaire who's handling her father's estate and seems to have secrets of his own. 👀 He's offering her a little hope, but I mean, is there ANYONE in this story we can trust?! 😂 Because apparently finding someone without a mysterious past would be too easy!

Between the attraction, the old wounds, the secrets, and everything lurking beneath the surface, Lorelei has a lot more to worry about than falling for the wrong man. There's spice, suspense, and a whole lot of unanswered questions. Just when you think romance might be complicated enough, there's an even bigger mystery to worry about!

This is my first time reading Gwyn McNamee, and apparently we're jumping straight into secrets, suspense, and a cliffhanger?! 😂😭 This is the first book in a duet, so don't expect all your answers just yet!

Thank you ♡ to Gwyn McNamee and The Smuthood for the ARC!

Well, this book had me COMPLETELY hooked from beginning to end! When Lorelei returns home after 20 years following her father's passing to sort through everything, she finds herself caught up in so much more than she bargained for. Thankfully, Ellis is there to help her, and let me tell you… this man has serious BOOK BOYFRIEND energy! Protective, intense, and impossible not to fall for. 😍

The angst, the tension, the chemistry, the suspense… I was eating it ALL up! The mystery had me questioning absolutely everything. Secrets, danger, the feeling that someone is watching her… the suspense just kept building, and I couldn't put this book down.

I was emotionally invested from beginning to end, and WHAT A RIDE this was! And THAT ENDING?!?!!! WOW. I need a minute. 🤯 Absolutely loved this one!

Thank you to The Smuthood for the ARC.

Welcome to Cape Blackwell. Home of Whitley Manor and secrets that shadows keep.

Lorelei returns home to Whitley Manor after 20 years away. Having inherited the Manor from her Father who suffered a heart attack, she hesitantly returns to her childhood home, where the halls are riddled in secrets and past trauma. Only, she not only returned to claim her home, she's needed the Manor walls and protection from what has followed her home.

She meets Ellis, the attorney in charge of handling the Will, and is instantly intrigued. Something of a genius, he graduated early and took over the law firm in Cape Blackwell. And is coincidentally Lorelei's neighbor. He shows up for her time and time again and offers her protection.

What was once her prison, turned salvation, is back to being her prison. The twists in this story are insane. There are plenty of instances where you think you know which way its going, and then it completely twists! And that cliffhanger?? Ahh!! This is my fist read by Gwyn McNamee and I am so glad I got this ARC and was introduced to another amazing author. I cant wait for the next book!

Beyond the Synopsis…

Think chess. Every move calculated, every counter-move concealing another secret, with Lorelei always trying to stay one move ahead. From the very first page, The Thin Line Between Love and Hate had me on the edge of my seat, watching this intense game of chess unfold and wondering what move would come next.

Whitley Manor holds secrets, Lorelei doesn’t know who to trust, and just when you think you’ve worked out the next move, Gwyn McNamee throws another unexpected twist into the game. Young lawyer Ellis becomes Lorelei’s rock in the middle of the storm, but in a world where love and hate are separated by the thinnest of lines, can she really trust him?

The heat, the intrigue, the suspense… every move pulls you deeper into the game as Lorelei fights to stay one step ahead. And just when you think she might finally be calling checkmate, that cliffhanger leaves you questioning EVERYTHING!

Read it for… ♟️
🔥 A romance that keeps you guessing
♟️ Twists, turns and clever counter-moves
🖤 Secrets lurking behind Whitley Manor’s doors
❤️ A connection that offers hope amid the chaos
😱 A cliffhanger that will leave you desperate for the next move!

WOB65 Verdict 💋

Gwyn McNamee, how do you keep doing this? Every time I pick up one of your books, I’m amazed by the uniqueness of your storytelling, and this one is no exception. This is romance wrapped in an intense game of psychological chess, with Lorelei constantly trying to stay one move ahead.

And that ending? I NEED the final book! Because I’m not convinced we’ve seen the ultimate checkmate just yet… ♟️🔥

🤯 Yup, that's literally me right now after finishing The Thin Line Between Love and Hate!

Not only did this story have me in a chokehold from the very beginning, but THAT ENDING?! Absolutely epic! And yes, it's a cliffhanger. I need book 2 like RIGHT NOW!

Gwyn McNamee did an absolutely incredible job with this story. It's one of those stories where you think you know where things are going or that you've finally figured it all out, but the further you get into the book, the more you start questioning yourself. And that was me throughout the entire story!

The suspense from beginning to end was absolutely thrilling, and the way everything wrapped up while setting us up for the conclusion in book 2 was perfection. I can't wait to uncover even more secrets and lies because, trust me, this book is FULL of them!

If you love mysteries, thrilling suspense, and an epic story that keeps you guessing, definitely pick this one up! And keep your eyes peeled for book 2 in the duet, coming in December.

I know I'll be impatiently waiting for the conclusion!

What you know going in it is a duet you will be left needing the next book! It's upfront in the print! Lorelei has had some professional challenges then her father dies, and she moved back into her childhood home a place she learned to loathe. She is facing her childhood trauma, seeing all the people in town that don't bring up good memories and being a pawn in someone else's chess game. Ellis is younger, supportive, sexy, smart and determined to be there for Lorelei. He seems to take care of her and bring her comfort, safety and back to living. I am all in reading along and you can tell that things are about to happen. The suspense is building then I ran out of words. I literally slammed my kindle cover shut. I never do that. I was sitting there with my mouth agape and thinking how can it end here, how did I run out of words for now...so you need to read it. You need to come sit on the ledge with me as we wait for the rest of this story.

ARC Review

Well, who doesn’t love when you’re not sure if you’re being watched or losing your mind and doing things you don’t remember? Lorelei was running and she ran to the one place she swore she’d never return. The only problem, the ghosts from her past were haunting here too. She couldn’t figure out if she was truly being followed and watched or if maybe she was crazy and losing her mind.

This book was a quick, easy read. I had a theory on who the watcher was and I was right, but it didn’t ruin the story. It wasn’t super obvious, so if you get it great, you’ll still enjoy the story and then when it’s revealed you’ll say “I KNEW IT”. If you don’t get it, you won’t be upset, but it will all click into place. You won’t understand why (that should be revealed in part two) but it’ll click. I can’t wait for part two to see how the rest of this story ends!!

This review is based upon my own opinions and thoughts. Thank you to The Smuthood for my ARC.

Checkmate. How much that one word turned my whole theory upside down and out the window.
From the start, this read had me invested. Lorelei returns home after her father's death to settle his affairs, and you just know she is also running from something. You get the feeling of stalker vibes, so of course I'm doing to want more. Then we meet Ellis, and he just seems to be at the right place at the right time when it comes to Lorelei. His words had me swooning and blushing like a school girl. He makes her feel safe, and right now, that is what Lor needs. Throw in the pull and chemistry between these two, and we get some delicious spice. Add in a breeding kink, and I'm all about it. But don't get too happy and thrilled because we get smacked hard with a twist I never saw coming. Was I in shock? Yes. Do I want more? Most definitely! This read gave me just enough suspense and so many feelings that I am OBSESSED!

Review of ARC

this was a wild one! i’ve never read anything from this author and don’t love the writing style but that doesn’t take away from the book itself. i did spend a lot of it trying to decide if i loved or hated it but overall, it was a good read!

this book was a quick read, the very first sentence had me hooked! unfortunately, i didn’t stay hooked and didn’t start enjoying it until about 75% of the way in. i did like the fact that the FMC is in her 30s and not freshly 18. there was a lot of ups and downs and “what on earth is going on??” moments. i do wish “the watcher” had more page time but i’m sure they will in part two! i knew it would be a cliffhanger, but the ending had still had me saying “THATS IT??” i wanted so much to love this book, but it did fall a tad short in its ability to keep me interested.

even though it’s not my favorite book i’ve read, i am still looking forward to finding out what happens next!

A new author for me and I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to read any of Gwyn McNamee’s books. This book… tension and suspense from the start, giving me a slightly uneasy feeling and the more I read, the more that feeling increased. It made me question everyone and everything and I could never be sure who was responsible for things that happened, whether they were in Lorelei’s mind or someone else was involved. At times, I thought I had things worked out but then those thoughts get thrown into chaos, particularly with the ending.
I can’t help thinking that the storm that Ellis and Lorelei get caught in is a theme for the events and plot of this book. Unpredictable, sudden, violent and frightening followed by a sense of calm and safety.
Secrets, threats, murky dealings, emotional angst and spicy romance with a darker edge. Just where is this story going? The second instalment can’t come fast enough!

Thank you to “The Smuthood” for the early copy.

Thank you Gwyn McNamee for the eARC of The Thin Line Between Love & Hate.

If you want a book that's an angsty contemporary romance- Gwyn McNamee is an author you need to have on your TBR. It's the beginning of a game filled with lust and intrigue (and maybe a bit of love?) and a story you cannot help but devour from the first page. As always Gwyn, you've managed to absolutely knock this out of the park.

Lorelei finds herself back in Cape Blackwell after finding her life in shambles and it's the last place that she wants to be. It's the place that always feels like a prison to her.

Then she meets Ellis, the one who's taken over for her deceased father's lawyer. She can't help but be attracted to him despite everything going on in her life. Ellis is able to give her a sliver of brightness in her darkness- some hope. As they cross the line into a relationship, things begin to heat up between Ellis and Lorelei, but all is not as it seems. Lorelei is harbouring secrets, but will their relationship survive what is revealed?

I'm on the edge of my seat waiting (a little impatiently) these next few weeks until I get the privilege of reading the second part of this duet.
