Flynn Sullivan hasn’t had the easiest of lives, with his father absent and following the death of his mother, he is desperate to give his younger brother the life he deserves. Harper Lawrence was a major contender in the IndyCar circuit from the very first day she got behind the wheel of a car. Her life is turned on its axis after a tragic accident, leaving her locked inside her own body, all but switched off to the outside world.
When Flynn and Harper’s world’s collide the sparks begin to fly, but each one holds a secret they don’t want to share. Flynn knows he needs to save the girl who’s stolen his heart, the problem is, Harper doesn’t believe she deserves to be saved. She doesn’t believe she’s been punished enough.
I live in the North of England with my husband and two of my three children. The eldest having flown the nest.
Dancing In The Rain was my first novel and was published in February 2013. My second book, Taking A Risk, a rock star romance novel tells the story of Alex Carter, lead singer of one of the biggest rock bands around, released in 2013.
Hopefully there will be many more books to follow once I quit messing around on all those social networking sites!
Are you kidding me? I don't know how to rate this one. This started out so well. I really liked how the author outlined the story, and while the writing wasn't that excellent, it kept me hooked and was really good. But, seriously, this book lost its appeal the moment Flynn started blaming Harper for the abuse she suffered when she was in vegetative state. If there's one thing i truly, indubitably hate, WITH A PASSION, it's VICTIM BLAMING. I so wanted to dnf this book right then. idek why i finished it:( Although those thoughts didn't last long, I didn't like the path this book took after this. Also, her parents!!! So unbelievable. I really disliked them. i really liked Flynn. but then, he turned into a douche🫤. Harper deserved better. No amount of repentance could make up for that moment when Flynn's thoughts took a tremendous downfall. I guess you could say that was harsh of me, but I don't just forgive and forget. Suffice to say, I was not satisfied... Disappointing 😔😔
I think I have read all of Caroline's books now, and with each book there is a different concept. This book is very different to her other books. The story at times is quite difficult to read, because you just don't want to picture Harper being abused while she lay in a vegatitive state. I wanted to punch and castrate the abuser. However, the story behind Harper ams Flynn is touching. I'd like to think there is still people like Flynn in rehabilitation centres. Reading each page opened my heart to Harper, but with each milestone she reached I jumped with joy for her. Only one thing stopped me from giving 5* was the chapter headings "Flynn" i imagined it was going to be Flynn's POV and "Harper" was Harper's POV, but that wasn't the case and I found myself re-reading the beginning of a few chapters. I will look out for future books by this author!
I've read a ton of free/very cheap ebooks in the last couple of weeks since being given an actual kindle. I haven't reviewed any of them or even bothered to log on to give them a star or two because, frankly, they weren't worth my time. Most of them I skimread or didn't finish. Blink was the glorious exception. It was reccommended by a friend who knows how little I generally like present tense, first person perspective with the words 'forget the style, it's a decent book'. She was right. Caroline Easton manages what only few writers manage: her characters are real and consistent, the story well told AND worthwhile telling. There were some mildly repetitive bits which could have done with a little more vigourous editing but not so bad it disrupted the overall flow. Blink does have some very realistic and disturbing but not overly crass scenes around sexual abuse, so I'd recommend for 15+.
An absolute fabulous read that will warm your heart. Against all the odds these two wonderful charismatic characters from different sides of the tracks, connect. Beautifully written with all the emotions expertly described will pull you right into this incredible story.
Harper was going through a lot in this, and Flynn wasn't having the best of times either. I liked both of them, and I liked their relationship together. I have to say though, there was one time where Flynn really annoyed me -
There were a few times where I started to feel sligtly bored, but overall it was an enjoyable read.
Once I picked up this book it was really hard to put it down. I absolutely enjoyed the first half. The characters were both very likable and it hooked me since the very start. Although, I have to admit some scenes were really hard to read I was really disgusted and find it difficult to get through them. But I did because, as I said, this book got me hooked.
Nevertheless, I'm not going to give this book 5 stars because I was a bit disappointed when reading the last part. I don't know exactly what got me disappointed, but I just thought something was missing. It felt too rushed and I was missing some scenes with both Harper and Flynn. There were also some small details that I thought could be improved.
But, overall, I really enjoyed reading this book, despite some of the issues I already mentioned. Both characters were really sweet and I really liked all their interactions. It all felt very real and sweet and endearing. I definitely want to read more of this author, because she definitely knows how to keep me hooked. I'd definitely recommend it!
I recently discovered this book, recommended to me by my mother, and found it a pleasure to read. There was something very realistic about the interaction between Harper and Flynn which was a bonus for me. The one thing I would like to point out is that this book could have gone through another round of editing. Sometimes the name of a chapter didn't match the viewpoint and also there were words missing throughout the book. If it hadn't been for that it would have been a five star.
As an avid reader (I read around two books per day), I sometimes struggle to remember all the books I have read. I have got to say though, this book is one that I will remember. The plot was interesting and realistic, with a romance tied into it that wasn’t too mushy. Will definitely be reading more from this author!
Reading this story you get caught up fast. Harper is in an "unresponsive state" after a car crash. There does not seem to be any medical reason for her condition. Flynn is a young man charged with raising his little brother, without any means to do it. His attempts to care for his sibling sometimes skirts the law. He gets caught and gets one final reprieve, community service at a heath care facility.
The two "meet" when Flynn is given the task of cleaning Harper's room. Flynn talks to her all the time and then notices she blinks. He gets her to communicate with him by blinking.
No spoilers.
While I was reading this book, I found it hard to put down. But when I finished, I started questioning several things the author says happens. For entertainment purposes, this book gets 5 stars. I am giving it 4 because too much of the hospital care does not seem right.
Holy wow what a read! As a first read by this author it makes me want to have a buy/read of everything shes written! What a completly different story that just grabs your heart and makes you root for these charcters. So we have Flynn.. big brother to Jacob struggling with life since their mum passed away. Then we have Harper who is in hospital suffering after a major life altering accident. When life just happens to bring these pair to cross paths it may just be the best things thats happened to them both. Such a range of emotions throughout this story lots of moments that just makes your heart beats faster. All you need is a blink. Great YA read would recommend to everyone.
