Air Force veteran Kathy Maresca served at the USAF Academy and then in special operations at Hurlburt Field. She edited for the University of Florida and taught English, journalism, and drama. A trigeminal neuralgia overcomer, Kathy is a retired credentialed rehabilitation counselor who has helped others experiencing facial pain. She lives in North Carolina with her husband Keith and their three dogs. Her debut novel, Porch Music, was a Christy Awards finalist.
This story is about the life of Rubi Wesson beginning with her life as an airman at the Air Force Academy in working in the Cadet Chapel, then Hurlburt Field in the Florida Panhandle, until forty years later living and working in her hometown of Vilano Beach, Florida. We get to know the struggles that Rubi went through working under less than perfect conditions, broken relationships, terrible health issues, loss, and the one who got away. Throughout it all, Rubi kept her faith and when she is given the chance of rekindling a friendship, she takes it. For the girl who never felt she was enough, Rubi finds happiness with her family, friends, and maybe love. I found her story emotional and heartbreaking at times but her faith sustained her and was inspiring. I received a copy from the author for an honest review. These are my thoughts.
Love and loss in the Air Force Sky Kiss is an intimate and masterful story of heartbreak, lost opportunity, and love between a beautiful young airman and the dashing flyboys she admires. Kathy Maresca weaves an epic saga spanning several decades through rigid military order, misunderstandings, forced separations, infertility, and infidelity to a satisfying conclusion. This uplifting book will renew your faith that there are rewards for those who wait. I had the opportunity to read an advance copy of this novel.
Kathy Maresca is one of my favorite authors. I loved her first novel, Porch Music! I loved this book just as much. I was able to read this book early and it is so good. Kathy has a wonderful way of making her characters feel so real that I miss them when the book is done. Her main character Rubi, is just that sort of character. When reading one of her books, you just feel you are apart of the storyline. She not only tells a story but her books also have a way of informing you of subjects and places you are probably not familiar with. I highly recommend this book.
