Creepypasta: Black Edition
Have you ever been to the internet? Well I spend to much damn time on it. Anyways, if you've been on the internet you may have heard of "creepypastas". "What is a creepypasta?", you may ask. Well reader, a creepypasta is a "internet campfire story". A scary story to tell in the dark meant to scare you. Simple as that. So me and my friend David have hand picked some of our favorites and we labeled it "BLACK EDITION". Because it sounded cool. So read on reader!

A collection of the most famous among the worst creepypastas, appropriately compiled in the worst of ways.
I have come to believe that this is the only way to compile bad creepypastas: The editorial effort of the compilation needs to be as bad as the ‘pastas in every way, anything else would end up feeling like the book imagines itself above its contents, like the editing of a snooty teacher who is attempting to boost their own confidence by comparing their own abilities to the hand-ins of a fifth grader. Creepypasta: Black Edition is thorough in its effort (or perhaps lack thereof) to be as awful as its content.
Bad fiction is not just a descriptor, but a genre of its own, with an appeal of its own, and which people write for its own sake. A large part of the appeal is comedy – it is similar to the purposefully bad joke in that, unlike any other kind of joke, it unites people in their perception of it; while jokes that try to be good only appeal to those who share the same sense of humour, everyone can agree that a bad joke is bad. The genre also allows for story elements which is impossible to get away with in fiction that tries to be good. One of the best examples from the collection is the evil version of Sonic the Hedgehog found in the story named ‘Sonic.exe.’ A serious text would have a hard time pulling that off. Other known creatures of horror have a similar problem, such as Slenderman, Ben Drowned, Jeff the Killer, and the weird beast in the Smile.dog image file – all of whom are found in their own stories in this collection – because they have the common problem of being hard to take seriously, but in bad fiction this does not matter. The creepypasta movement embraced bad fiction, allowing anyone to write creepy stories of their own and paste them on online forums. And this is also the origin of the word creepypasta, which the editors of the collection describe a little more ineptly:

There are grammatical errors, spacing errors, punctuation errors, and all-round weirdness to be had here. I absolutely love it: It is bad fiction described badly. Furthermore the pages are not numbered, the stories are not indexed, and they have often credited the stories to people who have made images related to the stories rather than the actual creators. They even included ‘Robert the Doll’ which is not a creepypasta at all, but a local legend from the Florida Keys. This is a proper mess. According to some reviews there were earlier editions that were worse, containing the familiar squares with red X’s in the middle that indicated that there once had been an image there which was no longer available, like they had copy-pasted the stories (as is appropriate considering they are creepypastas) with links and images and everything, directly from the web. I wish it was still like that.
In any case, the editors – and I must stress that even though they call themselves the authors in the synopsis, they are not the authors – state this as the origin for the mess:

and I am really glad they did. It is a bit strange to read internet literature offline, but I had a blast with it. I know it sounds strange and backwards, but my verdict is that I am all in favour of this book. In fact, I would go so far as to say that it has set a standard which other compilers of bad-fic should seriously consider to follow.

If you've ever read any creepypasta stories you will love this. This is a complication of the best of the best. Such as:

They were all really good stories I enjoyed them very much. Some of my favorites were: Mr Widemouth - that was creepy as hell, Case File No.57 (Stitch) - that was horrific but so good, Jeff the Killer was really good too. I also really enjoyed Doors - this was great and the plot twist at the end 🫣. Oh and Candle Cove 😱 wtf.

1 star not for the stories (common/popular creepypastas that are popular in the creepypasta fandom) but because the book is an absolute hot mess
No page numbers, nothing is edited...
Often will prompt "see video below" or "click the link below" or whatnot when m you can't lol
It basically is just a jumble of creepypastas from forums, and other places around the web that were copy and pasted into book format without any actual thought of how to organize it into a book format. Poorly executed for sure.

The actual physical book is a total mess and doesn't contain any of the images that are attached to the originals but the stories are fun and this is one way to read them if you aren't super keen on staring at a screen for too long.
