Navy Justice

Rate this book
Undercover lover

A quiet, civilian life on Whidbey Island sounded great to navy lawyer Joy Alexander. But when navy SEAL-turned-FBI agent Brad Iverson shows up on her doorstep bruised and bleeding, she realizes it's not so easy to leave the past behind. Even harder to forget are the feelings she once had for Brad.

Brad's on an undercover operation, one that's targeting potential terrorists…and unintentionally bringing danger to Joy. They'll have to work together again, except this time it's not only justice they're after—it's survival. If they make it that far, they won't waste a second chance at love.

Stories set on Whidbey Island always interest me, particularly those that involve Navy personnel, since my dad served there, too. In this second in the series, Joy Alexander, a former JAG, has just begun her civilian career as a lawyer in Oak Harbor when navy SEAL Brad Iverson, now an FBI agent, turns up in her kitchen, after having something to do with a mysterious explosion that Joy observes from her sunroom high on a cliff above the water. He's no stranger, having participated in a previous legal case when both were in the Navy. But he was enlisted and she an officer. No fraternization allowed. Except now, that rule no longer holds, or does it?

Joy wants life without frequent moves or worries that her husband (or lover) won't come home at night. But Brad isn't sure being in one place is something he can tolerate and Joy deserves more than he can offer.

When obvious loose ends remain after Brad has taken out whomever planned to shoot that SAM missile at a ship or a plane, each decides the other is too precious to not try to find the bad guys, who they are after, and if it's the retired Marine general and/or Brad, why. When another person from Joy's and Brad's past emerges from the shadows, it's clear that both are in danger. Can they escape being killed and be together, or will they learn the truth too late to save each other?

Just when she thought a new peaceful life away from the military was about to start, an attempted terrorist attack happens right at her doorsteps, and the one person she cares most about, is in danger.
I liked both Joy and Brad, they have an obvious connection, they share the same interests, and they background is similar. The attraction between them has been simmering ever since they met, but with the military protocol, was impossible to act on. Now they are both civilian, but the life and death situation is not a great place to start a relationship. Because of that, there was a lot of back and forth - I want you, but can't have you, type of thinking.
The characters were well thought out, they had depth, and honesty about them. They were not perfect by any sense, and therefore more real and solid.
The terrorist plot, the danger they were in was substantial. There wasn't that much action, but a lot theories, suspicion, and conspiracy. The tensions rise as the theories are examined. Some of the twists in the plot seemed too far out, and the evidence seemed to be found out of nothing, on a very thin base.
There was a secondary love interest between Joy's best friend, Emily, and Ben. I didn't really understand what was the purpose to share their story with Brad and Joy. It seemed more like a filler.
The story was well detailed with the military protocol, missions, and functions. The research and fight against terrorist Joy and Brad did is commendable and dedicated. The feelings for they have for each other are palpable, but it takes work, and deadly fear, for them to understand the depth of those feelings. Intriguing story, with passion for life, the work they do, and for each other

I found this to be a very interesting read full of a few surprises. It starts out with a bang and pretty much ends with one. The plot was interesting and held your attention. Joy and Brad kind of have an on and off relationship. Both are hooked on the other but for one reason or another they never took steps to make it work. They have more or less loved from a far. Now with them both out of the military Brad thinks maybe he could start a relationship with her. Before he could make the dream a reality he finds his self in trouble and she is the only one he can run to for help.

These two work well together as they come together to help work out who the bad guys are. I thought this was a great read with wonderful characters. The ending you won't see coming. I did not feel the chemistry between Brad and Joy. For me it was like they were old times friends (who really make the best lovers). The book was totally enjoyable with warm caring characters. I can't say there was really anyone I didn't like. It was full of mystery with a boat blowing up at the start and lives held in danger until the end. If you are looking for a sweet romance with a touch of danger pick this book up for a read.

I usually don't read navy romances but this was actually pretty good. I recommend that you wright down the different different acronyms so you don't get confused.
Joy was a great women who does anything for the man she considers her own. Joy goes against her principles by breaking a few laws in order to do what she believes in. Brad is an ex navy turned fbi agent who is placed undercover to take down a homegrown terrorist cell. These two are a combative force in the world of combative forces. Even though they do not have half of the resources that others do these two managed to make great leaps and bowns to solve the case. I would recomend this book to those who truly appreciare all those who are in the service does for us.This was a really great read thank you for the opportunity to read this before the book came out.

This was my first time read for this author as well as the first time I have read a military romance.
I must say I found this book quite captivating. It held my interest from start to finish. It was the perfect blend of romance and mystery.
The characters in this book were so well developed. No deep mental hang ups just two people strongly attracted to each other. Since they worked together they never wanted to cross the line but emotions ran deep.
Since the female character Joy left her position in JAG for private sector and Brad the male Navy Seal also transferred out when a terror threat throws them together their attraction takes off.
I recommend the book; you will not be able to put it down.

Joy Alexander went to civilian life on Whidbey Island. Navy seal turned FBI Brad Iverson shows up on her door step bleeding. She had feelings for him a long time ago. Joy saw Brad, he talked her into not saying anything about what she saw. Some terrorists tried to shoot down a navy flier with a SAM missile.
There is an attraction that Brad tried not to follow because they were in the service, but now they both are out. How does she feel about him?
I loved this story. It takes place in present day and I like the connection the two main characters have together. It is also nice to read a story with a little mystery of who is it behind the shooting. I don't think anyone would be disappointed in this book, I couldn't put it down wanting to find out what happens next. Enjoy!

This was a predictable love story, easy reading, characters were likeable though not very believable.

I would have rated this book higher, but there was too many inconsistencies it made it hard for the flow of the story. For example in the beginning of a love scene Joy is wearing one thing, after some of her clothing is removed, she is wearing something different, and when she is finally stripping, she has a completely different outfit on....say what...yes a whole outfit back on after some had been removed...guess some magically appeared as he was carrying her upstairs...As said there was a bunch of these inconsistencies in this story that just left me scratching my head.

The suspense in this book gripped me from page one and only added to the increasing sexual tension between Joy and Brad. The details of the Navy world just added to the authenticity of the story and the characters. These were people who I rooted for and wanted to have as my friends. The author also does a great job of catching readers up on characters from previous books while focusing on the new couple. I'm sure a reader new to the series will have no trouble starting here ... before going back to read every book in the Whidbey series.

Joy has just rejoined civilian life after serving in the Navy JAG unit for 10 years. She is living on Whidbey Island and gets involved in a domestic terrorism incident when ex Navy Seal Brad needs to hide when an undercover op goes bad. This story revisits the other couples from this series and gives a fairly realistic view of Navy and FBI operations.

This story began with a bang. The story continued to race toward the end. Joy knew how she wanted her life to proceed and Brad turned it upside down in short order. They resisted their attraction in order to solve a case. As it would down, they find happiness together. This was a page turner. It is the latest in the series, and I now need to read the rest.
