Christine Sawyer has been missing for two months. The discovery of her mutilated body will propel Chief of Police Ron Kosciak into a race of life and death with an adversary so evil that even Hannible Lector would tremble in fear. Frustrated by an increasing body count and no clues, Kosciak relies on every investigative procedure he knows, as well as his gut instincts, in an attempt to discover the killer's identity. Will he be able to rescue the killer's latest adoptee, or will she be added to the list of victims? Who will be safe? Who will die when the pieces to the puzzle begin falling into place?
Adoption hooked me right from the premise. The disappearance of Christine Sawyer and the brutal discovery of her body set a grim, desperate tone, and Chief Kosciak’s frustration feels real as the body count rises with no clear answers. The killer here isn’t just dangerous there’s a chilling, almost unhinged intelligence behind every move, which makes the story even more gripping. What stood out most was the race against time to save the killer’s newest “adoptee.” You can feel Kosciak’s mix of determination and fear as he follows every instinct he has. It gave the whole story a tight, breathless tension. If you like dark crime thrillers with a detective who refuses to give up even when the odds feel impossible this one delivers.
