Everly has everything Naomi has ever wanted. The career, marriage and a life that seems perfect from the outside. So when Everly asks Naomi for a simple favor, helping around the house while life becomes overwhelming, it feels like nothing more than friends looking out for each other. But some invitations should never be accepted. What begins as an act of kindness quickly turns into crossed boundaries, blurred loyalties, and subtle manipulation. The more time Naomi spends inside Everly’s home, the harder it becomes to tell where friendship ends and obsession begins. As secrets surface and loyalties crumble, the line between friend and enemy disappears. Every conversation feels like a trap, every memory becomes suspect and every choice pushes them closer to a betrayal neither of them can take back. But in a game fueled by envy, appearances are the most dangerous deception of all because the greatest threat isn’t always the person who wants your life, it's the one who has been watching you the longest. In COVET, obsession masquerades as friendship, trust becomes a weapon, and the truth is more terrifying than anyone could imagine. Packed with shocking twists and a finale that forces readers to question everything they thought they knew, this gripping psychological thriller proves one chilling Sometimes we create the enemy we never expected.
After the prologue I was almost afraid to get into the story, but I forged on. Naomi and Everly had an interesting chemistry with their friendship, right from the start. We know that opposites often attract, but they just seemed too different to be besties. However, it somehow worked. Then we get into the mind of Naomi and learn of her motives. Everly is oblivious to everything that is happening around her, and opinions are being formed in my mind about who will be the victor.
The drama is building and Naomi is smirking as she sees the finish line. Everly seems to be fighting a losing battle, as nothing she does makes her feel like she can come out on top. I'm reading, my blood pressure is rising, and the entire read flips on its head! 😮🤯 Huh???? What??? Did that really happen? 👀 OMG! Ma'am, you wrote the hell outta this thang here! Now I need a drank! 😤🤣
WOW! I’m literally sitting here speechless with my mouth wide open. The way K. Danyel pulled this entire story together was pure genius. I spent so much of this book forming opinions about these characters—questioning their choices, judging their actions, and thinking I had certain people completely figured out.
Baby... I did NOT.
And that’s one of the things I loved most about Covet. It really drives home the fact that we only see what people want us to see. We can look at someone’s life, their relationships, or even the decisions they make and think we know exactly what’s going on, when we really have no idea what’s happening beneath the surface. It also made me think about how quickly we judge people. Do people have faults? Absolutely. Do they always deserve the harsh judgments we give them? Maybe not.
Well...some of them do.
There were definitely moments when I wanted to shake these characters and ask, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!” But by the time everything came together, I had to reconsider so many of my earlier thoughts.
And THAT ENDING?!
Looking back, there were things happening right in front of me that I didn’t fully recognize for what they were. The clues were there, the behavior was there, and somehow K. Danyel still managed to pull the rug right out from under me. This is the kind of psychological thriller that makes you want to immediately find somebody else who has finished it just so you can say, “Okay, NOW we need to talk about what just happened.”
My flabbers are gasted… do you hear me!!!! I mean my mouth is on the floor!!! I really thought Everly was weak and blind. She fooled me! Man oh man… this book took me through it. Micah was behind the scenes this whole time lol. I just can’t believe the plot twist in this one. I’d never want anyone like Naomi in my life. Shoot nobody like Everly either. I was so sad when the book started. Then, I began aggravated and mad, then shocked 😂. I’m ready for another Thou Shalt book.
I really did like this book. It’s a two person POV story of lies, secrets and betrayal. Everly and Naomi are close friends but beware of those closest to you, as their “good” intentions may only suit them.
Everly, a busy mom, wife and worker seems to have the perfect life…but her outward perfection comes with help from her bestie, Naomi. But is Naomi helping for good or helping herself to Everly’s life?
Covet dives into what happens when your friends are too close and the havoc it can bring. This book has twists and turns that kept me turning the pages. I can’t wait for book two.
I can't wait for the rest of the books. I hope they are just as good. Cause whew chile I was locked in! I normally can figure the story out before it ends but this I only got partially right. The rest ...... all I can do is SMH! Good job K. Danyel! This book just landed on my best reads of 2026 and it was only 1 on the list until now.
Psychological Thriller This book had me thinking I knew the story but the twist literally caught me by surprise. When wanting someone else's life becomes your downfall. This book was so good. The author had me intrigued from the very beginning. 4.5 🌟
WOOOOO CHYYY!!!! Listen....the way I thought I had it figured out but the plot twist slapped FYE outta me!!! OMG! All I gotta say is be careful of the life you think someone else has....my my MYYYY!
I came across this book on social media and decided to give it a try. The plot summary intrigued me, but unfortunately, I ended up DNFing it. I couldn’t seem to progress past chapters 9 or 10. The first few chapters were repetitive in establishing the characters of Everly and Naomi’s personalities and characteristics. We were stuck in a loop of describing Everly as prim and proper, overwhelmed and overworked, a planner who felt unseen and unappreciated for her role as a mother and wife. Naomi was portrayed as slightly jealous, low-key envious, and a bit hood but also as a helper. The constant repetition of the line “Everly needs help, so I’m helping - I’m a helper” became tiresome, and I found myself reading it 38 times before reaching chapter 9. The purpose of this repetition was to establish Naomi’s role in helping steal Everly’s family. I believe there’s a better way to build character development without resorting to repetitive descriptions from each character’s perspective. This lack of variety and depth in characterization ultimately led to my loss of interest in the story. Despite my desire to push through, I couldn’t muster the motivation to continue reading 😭😭
All I can say is—I’m BLOWN AWAY! 🤯 That ending was something else and completely unexpected!
I thought I knew what was going on. Then I had my little “A-HA! I figured out the plot twist!” moment…and then BOOM! Nope! I was waaaay off! 😂
I spent so much of this book forming opinions about Naomi, Everly, Patrick, and even Natalie, only to realize that things—and people—aren’t always what they seem. This story really drove home the idea that sometimes, when you think you know someone, you really don’t.
The writing was phenomenal! What I loved most was how K. Danyel allowed some of my assumptions to actually come true, making me even more confident that I had everything figured out. Then, just when I thought I knew exactly where the story was headed, she completely turned the whole thing on its head!
The twists, the reveals, the assumptions I made along the way…WHEW! 😮💨
Psychological drama? Usually not my genre. 🤷🏿♀️ But Covet absolutely got me!
This is a MUST READ! 📚🔥 And if you’re anything like me, don’t get too comfortable thinking you’ve figured it out…because you probably haven’t! 😂
Everly seems to have the life her best friend Naomi wants. When Naomi gets the chance to get a little closer to that life, things start getting messy. Friendship, jealousy, secrets and obsession all come into play and it becomes clear that something isn’t quite right.
I really enjoyed this one. I figured out one of the twists, but not the final one and I liked how everything came together in the end. I love a messy home life in my stories and this had plenty of it. 😂 Secrets, questionable relationships and people making messy decisions? I’m in.
The story was pretty good and kept me reading. I did immersive reading with the Kindle and audiobook and finished the entire thing in one sitting, which probably says more than anything else about how much I enjoyed it.
It wasn’t an edge-of-your-seat thriller, but it didn’t need to be. There was enough going on to keep me wondering how it would all play out and I enjoyed the ride.
I finished this book and I’m gone say it was a solid 4 out of 5 stars. 4 because it was quite repetitive and I almost DNF. BUT I pushed through and it was worth it. It was a little predictable after a while and I figured out the ending before I got there, but it was a pleasure reading the how and why of it all.
It was worth the read y’all and I would definitely read something else by this author.
I can say that this story was very very repetitive. I enjoyed what was trying to be done but the pace was slow and repetitive. The over-description kind of killed the idea of the story. After a while it became a little boring and predictable. The shock factor wasn’t there because of how slowly everything moved. There were some provoking moments and the overall twist was decent. The buildup in this story is what ruined it for me.
I started this book two days ago. Each time when be before bed and I would wake up at the end. I as so glad I kept replaying. Now I'm trying to recall how this book hit my kindle. This book will have you thinking you know the ending until everything starts unraveling! If looking for a psychological thriller, put Covet on your list.
Covet sounds like a gripping psychological thriller filled with jealousy, manipulation, and secrets. The way Naomi’s simple act of kindness turns into a dangerous game of obsession makes the story intriguing, especially as trust between friends begins to crumble. How far can envy push someone before friendship becomes something much darker?
This was a short yet dramatic, action-packed psychological thriller that did NOT disappoint! The twists, drama, and suspense kept me hooked! Definitely a quick read that packs a punch! K. Danyel did her thing with this one! 👏🏾🔥
This book had me side-eyeing EVERYBODY. 😂 Every time I thought I understood what was going on, something else made me question it. I was locked in, entertained, and definitely wasn’t prepared for where everything ended up. Such a good read!
