D.I. Jack Dylan #6

Killer Smile

Rate this book
A killer with a macabre passion for human teeth stalks the residents of Harrowfield.

Three linked murders means Assistant Chief Constable Wendy Smythe is brought in to take ultimate charge of the serial murder investigation, and she is adamant on managing the task akin to a drama. Dylan has to dig deep to remain professional.

Chilling, ultimate and full of menace. There is dark suspicion that nobody is safe until the perpetrator is apprehended. Will the ring of steel wrapped around Harrowfield bring the psychopath to justice?

Coupled with the fact Dylan and Jen’s daughter Maisy is hospitalised with an undiagnosed serious illness; Jack is under pressure on all fronts.
On a happier note Jen’s dad Ralph, introduces the pair to his new lady friend but all is not as rosy as it seems three hundred miles away on the Isle of Wight, when her son brings the police to their door.
Dylan shares intelligence with The National Crime Agency which brings back a deep seated anguish of fallen colleague DS Larry Banks. Can he help them capture the boss of an international drugs cartel, and if so will it bring Dylan closure?

Well if you ever fancied being a copper and never got the chance, read this book. I loved it, as it was like your very own 2 weeks work experience with a Murder Squad. I was a little disappointed to realise this was the 6th book in the series. My followers know I love to read a series but like to start at the beginning and play catch up. I recently realised it isn't humanly possible for me to always do this so took the plunge with this RC Bridgestock book. Luckily it didn't seem to make too much difference that I hadn't read the previous 5 in the series, although certain parts of me wish I had.

There is a real authenticity to this and it’s very clear that the two writers (husband and wife) both have the knowledge and experience of working within this sort of world. There are no revelations, visions, or lucky breaks…just pure police work. I liked the fact you got a decent balance between Dylan’s personal and work life, it was just enough to be 100% believable.

Dylan and his team are chasing a murdered who has an obsession with teeth. The descriptive police work and blow by blow accounts of the Post-mortem’s are refreshingly different (if that makes sense). The only criticism for me is that sometimes I felt it was lacking that extra oomph; however there was something original and refreshing about the real life approach (hence the 'not quite' 4 stars).

By the end, as much as I enjoyed reading this I (as usual) felt a bit disappointed I hadn’t read the previous 5. Don’t get me wrong you can certainly come in at this stage of the game and not miss anything, but I feel like following a series gives you time to connect with your characters. This is certainly a series I will be looking out for in the future. I actually think this would be a fantastic book for True Crime fans who maybe want to read something not too far fetched!

The sixth in the series and yet another fantastic book. As usual you are pulled into the world of DI Jack Dylan and his team. A serial killer with a tooth fetish to be found alongside the day to day difficulties of family life. I love the descriptions albeit sometimes too detailed if you can't stomach a blow by blow account of a postmortem! Highly recommend this to anyone who loves police procedurals, crime and a great story! Can't wait to read the next one.

The sixth in the Dylan series finds the team on the track of a killer with a love of teeth.
A series of Murders linked by the victims all having teeth missing has Dylan and his team in a race to catch the killer, as the murder count grows and the clues unravel, Dylan has to balance the demands of the job with home life as his daughter Maize is rushed into hospital. As usual there is great care and attention to detail which is one the hallmarks of the series the characters, the characters leap of the page.
Written with a knowledge of the police and procedures, which can only come from the authors both having worked for the police, complemented with a human touch brought to all the characters, means you get a terrific sense of the workings of the detectives. Its the little details of procedure which you don't always have in other books which help to make everything real and believable
A rollercoaster of a read and a page turner, I have come to love all the books in the series, for me this is the best yet.

Killer Smile is a very apt title for this story, especially as Jack and his team have a crazed killer on the loose who removes the teeth from their victims mouths.

Just the thought of someone having their teeth pulled out sent instant shivers to spine and I was as baffled as the team to why anyone would want to remove peoples teeth.

Poor Jack really has it all going on with a case thats attracting a lot of attention as well as a lot of stuff going on in his personal life. For once you can see him really struggling trying to juggle his working as well as his personal life together and he seems to be getting pulled in all directions.

The D I Dylan series truly is a great crime series that has the perfect balance of police procedure and home life. The home life in no way detracts from the horrific crimes that the team are investigating and you still get that edge of your seat feel with all the thrill and the tension that you would expect from a book in this genre.

Another great read.

My thank to the authors for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I waited with anticipation for the release of this book and it didn't disappoint.
Number six in the crime thriller series by the husband and wife team Bob and Carol Bridgestock who have personal experience of working for the police, Bob having been in charge of many murder investigations. The book is set in a fictional northern town and it opens with the discovery of the body of a young woman who has been murdered and bizarrely some of her teeth have been removed. This is the start of a series of murders all with the same connection, The descriptions of the crime scenes and police procedures are believable but not too gory and there is some humour and banter between the team involved in the murder investigations. There is a good balance of the personal life and working life of the main character which I particularly like.
Can't wait for the next in the series.

Another fantastic read from this gifted husband and wife team and given the authors background their knowledge of police procedures and workings always adds authenticity and makes for a top notch read- great to have Dylan back again- Love the Whole of the series.

A serial killer is on the loose and this time they are collecting teeth from their victims, perfect teeth. This book is for anyone who loves a good procedural detective series....I mean it feels like you are right there with Dylan as he instructs his detectives, deals with hierarchy, CSI and autopsies. While not squeamish details, you will be attending several autopsies with Jack! On the side story at home, when did Maisy get old enough to talk the way she does (lol) and Jen's dad comes over like a prick and pretty oblivious what is happening around him...I'll leave it at that.

Good police procedural

It’s s good read with an appealing cast of characters on the police force. DI Dylan is painstaking in collecting the investigation details in order to make sure he has everything properly recorded to avoid dismissal at trial. The description of how the evidence is collected and logged is interesting and helps keep the momentum as the investigation lags.

It's a while since I last read a DI Dylan book and it is a series I do like. I felt this was a little ploddy at times and didn't have any great speed in it but that can be a pleasant change from the fast paced thrillers.

Dylan and his team find themselves on the hunt of a serial killer who not only kills his victims but also removes some of their teeth. His victims are all people with beautiful teeth. The question is why is the murderer so keen to obtain these teeth and what training has he/she got in dentistry to be able to perform the extractions so well?

The professional side of Dylan's life is balanced by a couple of unpleasant events in his personal life. These are well dealt with and I like the fact that Jen has a realistic expectation of her husband and his commitment to work.
