Influenza: Viral Virulence

Rate this book
Michael was just a normal university student looking forward to graduating and starting his bright career. However, on the horizon, a dark, massive storm was building. Due to an extremely virulent flu strain and an ineffective flu vaccine, the world was about to experience the worst pandemic in history. With almost 90% of the population dead, Michael, along with his good friend, Lorie, must escape the virtually vacant university town and make their way home. Force to deal with dwindling resources, scavaging, and vicious marauders puts the couple in life and death situations. Michael struggles within himself to maintain his moral humanity while dealing with the evils of a post-apocalyptic world. Facing increasingly difficult confrontations and obstacles, they forge ahead on their adventurous journey hoping that they can survive long enough to see their families once more.

The beginning of this was a bit too slow for me, as it felt like it took forever to get interesting. The second half improved though, and it managed to get my interest back.

Overall, Slow to start, but an okay read.

Needs an editor

The story itself was decent, but you had to wade through mistakes that detracted heavily from it. This book would have benefited from not only a good copy edit, but a developmental one as well. I will keep an eye out for this author though, he has talent but it needs to be refined. Had I paid cash for this, I would have only given one star.

I sort of gave up on this one. It was taking a long time for anything to happen. I will return to it later. The writing is good, the story is slow in developing and meeting the characters, so I think it will be worth returning to.

Influenza: Viral Virulence

Given today's current climate, this book hits closer to home then must would like. It shows just how trusting citizens are of their government and vaccines. Enough people just don't ask enough questions or do enough studying what they put in their bodies, just trusting blindly what's in the syringe. This could be an easy reality in any country in the world.

I have reread a couple of times.

I have enjoyed reading this book several times! Sometimes you just enjoy a book, keep it and pick it back up once a year and enjoy it all over again. I have always felt it needed a book 2. I have kept watch but so far no such luck...sadly.

The novel began with a promising start about a deadly pandemic influenza strain created in the laboratory and used to decimate 95% of the worlds human population. However the tale lapsed into a long monotonous road trip by a couple of teenagers who must travel thousands of miles on siphoned petrol and fending road thugs with guns and bullet. Instantly was I reminded about life in America. Nothing was more starkly characteristic of Americans than their dependency on trucks, gasoline and guns. The excitement finally picked up towards the end when the teenage hero Michael ran into Immortal Krank and his road tugs. The road chase and skirmish greatly reminisced George Millers Mad Max Fury Road. It was the epilogue that was the most interesting to me as it revealed the origin of the virus and the world domination goals of its perpetrators. It would indeed be an appropriate prequel to post apocalyptic worlds we saw in Mad Max or the Hunger Games or Maze Runners just to name a few obvious ones.

This book was a very pleasant surprise. Having never heard of the author I took a chance on this book based on the intriguing synopsis.

This is one of the most frightening books I have ever read because the subject matter is plausible. The story portrays both the worst and best of human kind when the unthinkable happens. It is scary to think about how far society’s morals can fall in the wake of a crisis. This book kept me interested and I didn’t want to put it down. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Great Read!

I read a lot of books, so when I find one that really keeps me on the edge of my seat, the writing must be special. While I read, I start hoping that the dog, Sandy, doesn't die and that Michael lives. It's so satisfying when they both do.
This really is a wonderful story. I love reading apocalyptic type stories. There are lots of them out there, thank goodness. I think that's why I am so pleasantly surprised when they are Great.

Little to no character development

The concept is good but the writing is terrible. It reads like something a primary school child would write: I went here I did this etc. The characters do not develop at all they remain unchanged in the face of total societal meltdown. Would not recommend. The plot is really the only saving grace and its not exactly a new concept.

A must read!

Not what I expected. Once started I couldn't put this one down. You quickly become a part of lives of these young people as they face the worst scenario and must quickly adjust from lives of carefree college students to survivors! I hope this becomes a series,

Ok book, but a lot of holes in the story.

I almost quit reading at the red bandana gang encounter because it was so unbelievable given the world situation, but am glad I stuck with it. The second half of it was very good.

A terrible book. This author needs writing lessons AND a good editor. Maybe he wrote it when he was 15 and is just now self-publishing it. In one place, he actually used two different names for the same character on the same page!! What a waste of time. If I could give it 0 stars I would.

Great story, can't wait for the next in this series. Although being believable, this tale could happen!

Oil really enjoyed this book. Even though I don't have to have a believable tale, this story could happen. Can't wait for more.

Good story of how humanity can fall apart in an emergency situation. A flu like epidemic can knock out 95% of the population is terrifying....
