Social Security

Rate this book
Along with Medicare, Social Security is one of the "rites of passage" older Americans experience. After contributing funds to this program their entire working lives, people are anxious to start cashing in on their monthly benefits. Idiot's Social Security offers simple and clear explanations of the history of the program, the traditional age requirement, disability and survivor benefits, and the future of Social Security. A bonus decision tree helps recipients maximize benefits based on such factors as how and when benefits are filed, marital status, and future plans.

Overview of social security, medicare, medicaid. Covers most relevant topics, without delving deep into details. The version I read was published in 2015, and there have likely been changes to plan benefits since then. I'd recommend finding a more recent book covering social security, particularly in light of potential congressional changes to reduce benefits in order to cover the shortfall in the trust fund.

Lots of information in this book. Easy to read and understand. Would also make a great reference book for persons approaching retirement age.
