A fun way to lose weight and get healthy (an audio review)
This book is a great primer for someone who is new to walking. The assistance in selecting the right equipment as well as the basics of how to get started were helpful. The suggestions of how to incrementally improve strength – like using weights – were good. No doubt, walking is a healthy activity as the book suggests. My one (tiny) issue is the book talks a lot about music but doesn’t suggest listening to audiobooks. A minor point but as an audiobook addict listening to an audiobook, it did feel like missed opportunity. There is also some repetition, but you get used to that.
The narrator, Gene Blake, was pleasant to listen to. Sometimes I am surprised by the selection of narrator given the apparent gender of the author but that’s on me. The narrator did a great job.
If you've been caught up with life and now find yourself a little chunky, like me and hubby; walking is the answer. The motivation is based on common sense. I've learned to make my health a priority. You should too. Really liked the book.
I was wondering if this book was going to be any good. After all, how much can you say about walking? But it was very motivating and uplifting in its positivity
As Spring showers and breezes swirl their way into our lives, I am getting excited about getting outside and back on the walks that I took when I first got to this town. With no car and no door-to-door mail, walking is necessary. But during the colder parts of the Winter, when my fibro reared its ugly head my walks faded into the background. And I am in no way ready for 5-mile round trips. So I thought this book would be a good place for inspiration.
It was. It was a quick read. It was clearly written with motivation blooming from every page. It didn't assume that the reader was either physically fit or couch potato. It covered a comprehensive, step-by-step method to get everyone out and walking, whether for pleasure or extreme sports (marathons).
What was missing and what I was hoping to find were illustrations of stretches and other exercises for warm-ups and cool-downs. The author did include verbal instructions, but I needed to see. I'm a visual learner and, well, a picture is worth a thousand --well, you know the saying.
I plan to keep this book downloaded on my devices so that I can refer back quickly as I get back into the routine.
