Think the Sinful Ladies Society runs Sinful? Think again. I’m Merlin. Yeah, the cat. I’m with the Sinful Feline League. And together with older-than-the-Sphinx Lula Mae and her sidekick, Spoolie, we solve mysteries and protect the welfare of cats all along the bayou.
We make sure life is good for the cats of Sinful.
Until one of us goes missing. Then another. And another. At the same time the Sinful Ladies Society’s still is vandalized and one of their ladies is assaulted. Something doesn’t smell right, and it’s not the kitty litter.
Who would want to destroy the SLS still? And who would want to kidnap cats? And can the SLS and SFL come together and stop a madman before more cats are taken?
Merlin’s Misfortune is a fast-paced novella set in the world of the Miss Fortune Mysteries, complete with tail-switching suspense and a lick of humor.
AUTHOR’S NOTE: As you may have guessed, Merlin’s Misfortune was not written by Jana DeLeon. Rather it is part of the Kindle Worlds program, wherein Jana DeLeon has allowed writers to create stories using the world of Sinful and the wacky characters it’s famous for. I wish to thank Ms. DeLeon for graciously allowing other writers to explore their own writing in a most Sinful way.
I have written 14 books in the Miss Fortune World, licensed fan fiction of Jana DeLeon's Miss Fortune Mysteries. Currently, I'm writing an original paranormal cozy mystery series featuring two enemies-in-life who team with a living medium to solve crimes.
Of all the authors who have written novels/novellas about the wonderful characters created by Jana DeLeon in her Miss Fortune series, Shari Hearn is my favorite. She writes Swamp Team Three authentically, allowing them to be the bad ass women they are. Ms. Hearn has also given us a glimpse into Ida Belle, Gertie & Marge's back story in her Sinful Past series; and a unique perspective of present day life in Sinful in the Sinful Spirits series. A perspective SO unique that I didn't think she could craft a perspective that was any more unique. Then I read "Merlin's Misfortune."
Written alternately in the voice of Fortune and her housemate, Merlin, this delightful book takes us into the Sinful world of secret societies, stills, sadness & sabotage; of the secrets hidden both deep in the bayou and in plain sight. It was a funny, suspenseful and touching story.
Hilarious "alternative universe" version of the already hilarious town of Sinful, Louisiana, where the feline population, led by one-eyed Lula Mae and her catty cohorts the Sinful Feline League, really controls the town instead Ida Belle and the little old ladies of the SLS (Sinful Ladies Society) and their new young friend, incognito CIA assassin in hiding, Fortune. Of course Sinful wouldn't be southern without good manners and at least one hot, handsome deputy who thinks law enforcement is truly in control. Laugh-out-loud chaos is the only possible outcome, with a little romance on the side. My only complaint is the length of these books - way too short.
Cats join Swamp Team 3 to track down who destroyed Sinful Ladies still
Catnip starts spreading around Sinful and cats start disappearing. Then the Sinful Ladies get attacked and their still is destroyed so they can't make their 'cough syrup'. Someone is trying to put them out of business so they can take over. The cats work with Ida Belle, Gertie and Fortune to track down the culprit. An unbeatable team!
Who knew that Fortune’s cat, Merlin, was really a member of the Sinful cat league of making sure Sinful dogs know who is really the boss? The book, told from a feline perspective is funny and oh so enjoyable
Cats missing, SLS stills destroyed and people attacked. Now a new Weirdest catnip out on the streets. The FWLs and the SLSs will have to join forces to resolve this crime wave. A great read, about cats and human crime solving. Debra H.
I found Merlin's Misfortune a really fun read. It tells the story from Merlin's, Fortune's cat point of view. I would really love to read more Merlin books.
The book was a gift so I figured if I didn't like it I wasn't out anything. Well, no danger of me not liking the book. The story was short and flowed easily. The chapters were told from either Fortune or Merlins viewpoint. Alternating the main character of the chapter could have been distracting but it easy. I loved the character of the cat. He reminds me of my cat gizmo. I am new to the miss fortune series but am anxious to see if the series books are as good as this kindle world story was. I highly recommend this book, especially if you are looking for something different or light.
I love all kinds of books but when the author or several authors mix things up, I really love it. These books are about 2 senior citizens who solve crimes. The books are a series and you really need to start with number 1, unlike me who started with number 5 and had to backtrack.
It was cute. It was an animal story. If you like to think of cats as smart and like their military style cuteness, then this is for you. If you don't like animals and stories about them doing almost human things....pass. Cute, short read.
Fortune, Ida Bell and Gertie were a bit less courageous I guess you could say than when Jana Delong writes but definitely still in charge. Really enjoyed the cats though!
