Summary: Here at A.L.I.E.N. we believe in strengthening the bonds between humans and intergalactics so that one day all beings can live together on Earth in harmony. That day has not come. But our Associates are working hard to achieve this goal, including Gabby Duran, Associate 4118-25125A, Sitter to the Unsittables.
Upon successfully completing her first mission, we have assigned Gabby a more . . . puzzling charge. The relationship between trolls and humans has always been rife with tension, and the troll family Gabby is assigned to is especially prickly. But Gabby is not fazed. Our footage shows Associate 4118-25125A playing, laughing, and snacking with Trymmy, the little troll boy, who seems to be thoroughly enjoying himself.
Our liason, Edwina, informed Gabby that trolls love nothing more than a riddle-and stealing items from unsuspecting humans to add to their trove-but Gabby's certain that all this young troll wants is to have fun. However, it might not be as simple as she thinks. After all, there's a reason this particular alien offspring has been labeled "Unsittable."
I started this book last week Friday, although it looks like I read it all today because I was having trouble with the dates, and I didn't want to spend anymore time on them than I had to. I've actually wanted to read this book for a few years. I found the first book, Gabby Duran and the Unsittables, randomly when I was scrolling through Bard (a platform for blind people to tet digital books). I listened to it, and I loved it. Then, I looked for the second book. I couldn't find it in a format I could axess. Bard didn't have it, and Hoopla only had it on eBook. I didn't yet know how to make VoiceOver read it to me. I couldn't even find it in Braille. I checked every once in a while with no luck. Finally, just recently, I decided to have VoiceUver read it to me even though the narration wasn't the best. It was robotic, and it was really easy to lose my place. Now, though, I'm really glad I did it. I found that it was easy to ignore the fact that it was VoiceOver readx it and just enjoy the book.
This is the second Gabby Duran book and I would definitely recommend that you read the first one before this one. It sets the story up and having not read it, I was somewhat confused at the beginning of this book. Gabby works for a group called A.L.I.E.N., babysitting “unsittable” children,. In this book she is hired to babysit a little troll boy whose parents despise humans. Trolls are also known for stealing things and if you want to get them back, you must answer a riddle. When Gabby's backpack is stolen with her thumbdrive containing her homework by Trymmy, she must risk seeing him outside a babysitting job to get it back. Whild all this is going on, her bitter frenemy Madison Murray is trying to strong-arm her into providing a big-ticket item for the school orchestra’s fundraiser which she is organizing. When her mother finds a rare autographed first edition cookbook, it looks like she is off the hook, but that is not the end of things going wrong for Gabby. Responsible, Gabby takes these unfair situations to heart, beating herself up about not fulfilling obligations before her instinctive knack for giving children what they need saves the day.
This book would be a good story for children in junior grades (late gr. 3 to 6).
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Gr 3-6 -- Sweet Gabby, babysitter to “unsittable” children, faces two impossible challenges in her second adventure. She’s been hired to babysit a little troll boy whose parents despise humans, and she cannot seem to win their trust. At the same time, bitter frenemy Madison Murray is trying to strong-arm her into providing a big-ticket item for the school orchestra’s fundraiser - and doesn’t mind lying to get her way. Responsible, endlessly kind Gabby takes these unfair blasts rather to heart, beating herself up about not fulfilling obligations before her instinctive knack for giving children what they need saves the day. —Paula Willey
Twelve year old Gabby Duran is a babysitter extraordinare! In fact, she’s such a fantastic babysitter that celebrities fly her all over the world to watch their kiddos...and her babysitting skills have been noticed by A.L.I.E.N. (The Association Linking Intergalatics and Earthlings), who recruit Gabby to watch alien children, who have been deemed “unsittable”, because of their otherworldly appearances and abilities. Gabby, whose own little sister was deemed unsittable, eagerly agrees to work with A.L.I.E.N. and her liaison Edwina, and she and her two best friends (Zee and Satchel) quickly find themselves in out-of-this-world, outrageous, and sometimes downright perilous situations with her alien charges. But at the end of the day, Gabby knows that aliens or not, her charges are special and deserve to be treated just like any other fun-loving kids!
The Gabby Duran series, which currently includes Gabby Duran and the Unsittables, Troll Control, and Multiple Mayhem, is a fast-paced, fun series, full of quirky characters, wildly adventurous situations, cool technology, laugh-out-loud humor and dialogue, and charming storytelling.
Authors, Elise Allen and Daryle Conners take babysitting to a whole new intergalactic level and definitely bring the laughs, excitement, and heart! With a wonderfully imaginative plot (alien babysitting?!), irresistibly likable and engaging characters (humans and aliens alike), awesomely twisty and turny situations, and elements of STEM learning, these books will captivate, entertain, and inspire young readers.
I has such a blast reading this series, getting to know Gabby, Zee, Satchel, the alien kids, Edwina, and even snooty Madison, and joining them for three unforgettable and zany adventures!
I've been trying to decide which of the kids Gabby has babysat has been my favorite, and I can't. Because they are all different species, each one of them has traits that the others wouldn't have no matter how hard they tried. This one was cute because one, he really liked Gabby, and two, he was able to give Gabby's family something no one else could. It was kind of heart warming to have the interaction with Carmen.
When I think of this book, I realize that I now want some marbles, because I have a new game to play. Of course, I don't think I have an imagination active enough to really make it fun. I still want some marbles.
After the first book, I thought Gabby had learned her lesson on who to trust and how to handle situations, but... It's a good thing she has help from people that actually know what they are doing. Also, the janitor spin was great. I'm glad he wasn't just dropped after being such an integral part of the first book.
All in all, good book. Much better than the new show, but then of course that is usually a given.

Another win with this 2nd book in the Gabby series! I'm thankful to Disney for sending us this copy for review--my kids LOVE this series, which makes mandatory reading time so much more fun for all of us!
Gabby is a world-class babysitter ... make that intergalactic-class babysitter. Readers will certainly understand more if they've read the first book, but they won't be lost if they dive right into this second installment. This time, she meets a troll family (thanks to the A.L.I.E.N. Unsittables program) and lands in a heap of trouble when the lonely but sweet troll kid nabs the only auction item that can save her middle school orchestra's travel fundraiser.
There's plenty to like: quick pacing, intelligent and non-stereotypical friends, and Gabby's own loving and accepting worldview. The creepily omniscient A.L.I.E.N. supervisor stretches believability, certain plot threads fray and flap around heedlessly, and the ending wraps up ever so neatly (and quickly), but it's still a fun pick for kids who like their aliens tossed with a big dash of humanity.
My daughter and I enjoyed this second book in the series. Gabby is still sitting the unsittables while other activities are happening at her school. We felt there wasn't as much action in this book as the previous one. Looking forward to the next book .
