He was a confirmed bachelor - and a gorgeous work of art.

Call her crazy, but Callie has serious reservations about working with the painting's owner. Warm and sexy, Jack Walker makes no attempt to hide the strong attraction he feels for Callie - even as she tries to keep their relationship professional. Now, cocooned in his studio in Boston, she will either have to learn to ignore the man and concentrate on the masterpiece, or give in to the kind of passion that can never be captured on canvas.

Jack Walker is a practical man who runs his life, his empire, and his fortune effortlessly. Yet from the moment he met Callie Burke, he wanted her with all the intensity of a first crush. As he gets to know her, the desire blossoms into something more - and Jack finds that for the first time in his life he is leading with his heart instead of his head. . . .

Jessica Bird also writes as J.R. Ward

Jessica Rowley Pell Bird was born on 1969 in Massachusetts, USA. She is the daughter of Maxine F. and W. Gillette Bird, Jr. She began writing as a child, penning her thoughts in diaries as well as inventing short stories. She read her first Harlequin Presents novel in a rose garden when she was in her teens. She was hooked immediately. By the time she went to college, she had boxes and boxes of Harlequins and Silhouettes. Every year, her mother would ask why all those books had to live in the house and Jess would reply that if even one of them disappeared she would know. (She'd catalogued them.)

Jess finished her first romance manuscript the summer before her freshman year of college. She attended Smith College and graduated with a double major in history and art history. She then received a law degree from Albany Law School. Shortly after that, she began working in the healthcare industry in Boston. She spent many years as one of the premier medical center’s Chief of Staff. While working as a lawyer in Boston, she completed two novels more and started a number of partials. In 2001, Bird married John Neville Blakemore III. Both her mother and her new husband kept telling her to send something in to an agent, a publisher, the Tooth Fairy, anyone. She thought they were nuts, but eventually got her nerve up and bought a lot of stamps. Since getting published, she has written contemporary romances as Jessica Bird and paranormal romances as J. R. Ward. She has been a Rita Award finalist, received two Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice nominations and has been a HOLT medallion finalist.

New England born and bred, Jess is surprised to find herself living south of the Mason Dixon line. (But that's what happens when you marry a Southern gentleman.) She and her husband live with their golden retriever, who oversees her writing in a supervisory role.

Opening Line: "The woman came to him from the shadows and he knew her by the red of her hair."

Written in 2004 An Irresistible Bachelor is the companion book to Jessica Bird (JR Ward’s) An Unforgettable Lady Each can easily be read as stand-alones however you’ll get much more out of this one if you read them in order. Having said that I should also tell you that while I loved Grace and particularly John from the first book, Jack and Callie’s romance here was a major disappointment and has turned out to be my least favourite Bird/Ward book to date. Unfortunately I just couldn’t ever get a feel for them as a couple, and without the suspense factor from the last book or any real notable sexual tension this time, the dreary storyline involving art restoration, family secrets and multi-billionaire businessmen running for governor just wasn’t enough to hold my interest.

However this is still Ward writing, so while the plot never grabbed me it does of course have its moments, they’re just few and far between. For example I learned everything I ever (didn’t) want to know about restoring art. Thankfully there are some great secondary characters; like Jack’s bitchy meddling mother, a one armed chef and Artie the dog. My wannabe boyfriend John Smith shows up again although he doesn’t get to speak and we meet Gray, who had me wondering if he was the same Grayson Bennett from The Moorehouse Legacy book His Comfort and Joy? Speaking of which we also get a brief cameo from Spike A Man In A Million In the end though when you care more about a little dog and cameo spotting then the heroes you know you’re in trouble and it was with a lot of eye rolling that I finished this book.

Callie Burke is a struggling art conservationist so when she’s given the chance to restore a world famous painting she of course jumps at the offer. This job could make her whole career however she probably should have also considered that’s she’d be working with its owner too; multi-billionaire (really!? MULTI billionaire?? Is that much money really necessary? What’s wrong with just a plain ole millionaire??) Anyways Callie’s going to be working alongside the notorious womanizer Jack Walker. She’s determined to keep things strictly professional, after all he is engaged but he’s also just so damn sexy. Now she just has to make sure he doesn’t learn her secret. Dun dun dah…

Jack Walker is a practical man (who BTW was way more interesting in An Unforgettable Lady) He runs his life and fortune effortlessly and except for the occasional fight with his interfering, live in mother and some bad driving skills doesn’t foresee anything changing. That is until the moment he sets eyes on Callie. He wants her like he’s never wanted anything before and the more he gets to know her the more he also realizes what his life is missing. This isn't just infatuation and to prove it he’s willing to end his engagement even if that damages his chances of becoming a mayoral candidate. Will he ever be able to overcome his former reputation and convince Callie that he really loves her? And what the hell has she done to his painting; she was supposed to be a professional? Cheers!

Jack Walker was a longtime friend of Grace Woodward Hall from An Unforgettable Lady (An Unforgettable Lady, #1). It helps to read that story first. He makes his presence known several times in the romance and you get a fair glimpse of his character.

Jack met Callie Burke towards the latter part of that story through Grace. He also, at the last minute and on a whim, offered marriage to his girlfriend of five years, Blair Stanford. She accepted even though she knew Jack did not love her. And he knew he never had felt that way about her. They were close friends with benefits.

An Irresistible Bachelor (An Unforgettable Lady, #2) picked up days after An Unforgettable Lady (An Unforgettable Lady, #1) ended. Jack had Callie on his mind. He had offered her a job restoring an ancestor's painting. She had turned him down but he wanted to offer her employment again. His gut told him she was the best person to repair the portrait and, consciously, he wanted to see her again. He kept telling himself it was just to help her out.

Callie was the opposite of Jack in most every way. Poor as dirt to his elaborate wealth, the one thing they had in common was their commitment to a job once they started it. Jack rarely had anyone disagree with him if he could prove his point. That is, until Callie came along. Her answer 'no' to his offer intrigued him further.

He also realized within days that his offer of marriage to Blair was a big mistake and he tried to talk to her several times about breaking it off. They couldn't seem get their schedules together.

Callie had a rough childhood; her insecurities were imbedded deep and there were plenty of reasons for this, some that you don't find out until later on. Jack was willing to wait for her to explain herself. Within reason. At 38 years of age, he had a goal but needed Callie's support and, more importantly, her complete trust.

Their chemistry was great and I loved that the repair of the painting was not forgotten. Once the MCs became a twosome, I just had to keep reminding myself that Callie had an insecure life that followed up to the present day. Ms. Bird opened a door and offered a glimpse from a mirror to the past in regards to her emotions. Callie knew that in her heart she had to become whole before she could commit herself completely to Jack. If he would wait.

*A Side Note.* If you get past the gray area first mentioned above, make sure you don't skip any pages. Little items are revealed up to and including the very end. And don't forget to read the sweet epilogue. It was worth it.

2023~I will never get tired of rereading this beautiful love story. These two were perfect for each other and the epilogue was icing on the caked. I would rate it a 10 if I could.

Wonderful!!! The romance between these two was lovely.

The hero, Jack was wonderful. Appreciated how he struggled with his feelings for the heroine, Callie but finally goes all in. He's a wealthy businessman. Past playboy who is now engaged to a nice woman but doesn't love. It was time to settle down and marry as he's thinking of running for governor. Jack meets Callie when he purchases a family painting back and needs it restored and she's been referred as the person to do it.

Callie, would love to restore the painting but there is something about Jack that makes her turn down the opportunity. Something like maybe attraction?? Callie has a thing about "playboys" and she knows all about Jacks past. Callie's past and her Father definitely contribute to her issues with Jack. But in the end she is need of money, couldn't pass up this opportunity and Jack was very persuasive.

Callie ends up at Jack's home, excuse me his mansion more like it. He sets up a large room above the garage for her work area and she is given a guest room in his home, across from his room of course. Jack fight's his attraction to Callie as he's engaged. Callie ignores and fights her attraction to Jack. Well the inevitable happens, they are so drawn to each other and end up in a heated kiss (like wow, Jack oh Jack). Jack is guilt ridden and shocked, Callie is blinded sided by the kiss. Jack confesses he's engaged and it won't happen again and will tell his fiancee and Callie is devastated to learn he's engaged. I appreciated the way it progressed in their relationship as they dealt with their attraction and how Jack does end his engagement and went all in for Callie. I loved Jack, swoon worthy.

There is Jacks Mother, who is not nice. And does cause trouble. Jack and Callie learn to communicate, handle their feelings and relationship in a manner I appreciated. They were so sweet together

This one is a definitely keeper for me and I loved the epilogue, just wished it was a little longer.

Loved rereading this and will reread this and reread this...etc~ You get the picture. :)))

Just a quickie on this one. I liked it, but there are some romance conventions that are annoying. One of the characters becomes so stubborn it gets very annoying, but that element shows up in so many romance novels it seems like it's almost a requirement. As a result there's a big misunderstanding. Another staple of the romance novel.

But everything works out and there are some nice, emotionally evocative moments. Jessica Bird now writes as JR Ward and you can see her style in this earlier work. It's your basic contemporary and there's no BDB-style slang, but her rhythm is very recognizable. I can really see how this writer evolved into that writer.

There are more Jessica Bird books on Kindle so I'll be checking them out as well. Definitely typical of the genre, but significantly better than a lot of the other contemps I've read in the past few years.

An Irresistible Bachelor…..WOW. Captivating from the start, I found this book entirely difficult to put down, a real and true page turner, and for the first time ever in reading a book, was rewarded with goose bumps within the story. An Irresistible Bachelor is one book that proved itself irresistible to enjoy.

Callie Burke is a conservationist of art, a professional who restores paintings to their classic beauty through intricate handwork and cleaning. She is relatively new at this and nervous about taking on her first big job, a portrait that dates to the Revolutionary War and is important to the owner because it is his ancestor. She is more worried though, about her attraction to the owner. She fights showing her attracting to the owner, which entices the reader to turn the page, just to see what will happen next.

Jack Walker is a multi-millionaire businessman and possible candidate for Governor of Massachusetts in the next election. He has restored the family fortunes after his father (who was not a good businessman but loved to give away money to philanthropic organizations) almost bankrupted the family. He has now purchased the last of the family portraits that had been sold off and he wants to hang it back in the study in its place of honor. He hires Callie at the recommendation of a friend who also happens to be Callie’s secret half-sister.

Callie, you see, was born into a non-family. Her mother was the mistress of a famous businessman who just happened to be married with another legitimate child. Callie lived her life knowing her father, yet unable to publicly acknowledge him and he failed to show Callie any love when he made his clandestine visits to her mother. After his death, she confronted her half-sister Grace, a celebrity in her own right, who accepted her as a friend, but decided to protect her parents’ reputation by keeping it quiet. And Callie has agreed to that.

Jack is a twin. He and his brother grew up knowing that Jack was going to save the family from ruin. Nate wanted to be a chef and pursued that dream, while Jack entered the business world. And Jack outsmarted his father by demanding a piece of the family holdings for every loan he made to his father. At the time of his father’s death, Jack had maintained ownership of all the property and many of the possessions. His mother, a woman who herself was raised poor and married well, lives off his generosity but doesn’t really appreciate his talents.

Now, Jack has met Callie. He had just become engaged to an old family friend, deciding it was time to curb his playboy ways (which the press had definitely exaggerated) and to help in his campaign. He decides to break things with Blaire because he finds himself too attracted to Callie. Callie and he begin a love affair. But they hit rough roads when Jack starts talking about running for office and Callie will not trust him with the truth about her parents. When Jack’s mother gets involved it turns ugly and something’s got to give.

I truly enjoyed these two characters and their intelligent interactions. They love but they are not dumb about it. They realize that they have issues to overcome and they talk. Even when they are angry with each other and they both choose to sulk, it is done with some sense of acknowledgment that this is not the best way to work things out. Circumstances work with them to finally resolve their issues.

The secondary characters include Callie’s half-sister, Jack’s brother and mother, Jack’s campaign advisor and the family chef and all are written with multi-dimensions. This is so refreshing in a novel that is being marketed for the romantic appeal of the story. Jessica Bird is new to me, but I find myself looking forward to Nate’s book and searching used book stores for Grace’s story.

The third aspect behind the story, which involves a secret romance story within the painting, is truly something that will draw you in and make you shiver with anticipation.

An Irresistible Bachelor looks on the surface like one of the off-kilter romantic comedies that are currently so popular. But look beneath the cover and you will find a well-written, engaging and intelligent love story.

For the first time in a very long time, I give this story and the well written love tale 5 stars out of 5.

This book is my second Jessica Bird book and I found it a huge improvement over the last. The characters were much easier to relate to and the plot while basic was precise. Add in the authors trade mark love of cars and a character with a physical disability and this book was very familiar.

In Irresistible Bachelor finds charismatic wealthy businessman Jack Walker hiring Callie Burke, an art conservationist, to restore an important piece of artwork in his Boston home. Along the way they fall in love. Of course complications arise when he decides to run for governor and she wants her secret past to remain in the past.

Overall there seemed to be a shift in the author's writing style between the last book and this one. She developed the characters in a way I could relate to and enjoyed. I believe the fact that she cut the number of characters and focused on the relationship instead of a subplot helped. Also she only built the sexual tension half as long and the payoff was bigger. In addition the writing feel much more familiar. Maybe it's because she wrote about people in a house with cars.

I might not be in love with the Jessica Bird side of her writing but I'm not loathing the thought of reading more of her work anymore.

I could not stop reading An Irresistible Bachelor. It just had my full attention from page one to the very end. I read it before I went to work and I could not wait to pick it back up and start reading it when I got home from work. I found it a pure sexy page turner. An Irresistible bachelor is romantic, hot and sexy. I highly recommend An Irresistable Bachelor to all readers who love romantic novels.
Callie Burke finds her self out of work and is now wondering how she will pay her rent. Calllie is then offered a serious amount of money by multi-billionaire Jack Walker to restore a world-famous painting. Jack Walker a womanizer lives in a huge mansion giving Callie her own studio to restore the painting. Jack who is running for governor is very attractive and very smart and engaged to a woman who he is not in love with. His bitchy mother lives with Jack and takes a dislike to Callie. But Jack is falling in love for red - haired Callie Burke. I have a review on An Irrestible Bachelor on ireadnovels wordpress com. I hope that all readers who read An Irresistible Bachelor enjoy it as much as I have. I would like to wish all readers a very happy reading for what ever book you are reading today.

An Irresistible Bachelor is another wonderful book by Jessica Bird (a.k.a. J.R. Ward). It took me a little while to get into this book like I did with An Unforgettable Lady, the first book of the series. However, I eventually did get involved in the story, and I really loved Jack and Callie (despite her TSTL moment towards the end).

I'm looking forward to reading The Rebel about Nate, Jack's older twin brother. He seemed pretty interesting and I'd love to see where that goes. And I hope that there is also a book out there about Gray, Jack's best friend. Maybe with Blair? I'll have to check!

Oh, and on a side note, does anyone else feel like there should be fang popping out of the cover model's mouth? I mean, really. I'm not saying that because Ward writes the Black Dagger Brotherhood books with all those extremely sexy vampires. This just feels like a "vampire book" cover! Like a fang should be resting on that bitable lower lip. Maybe it's just me.

I must say that it's never a good start when the hero was already engaged and leaning towards cheating when he lusted after the heroine. Because cheaters are not hot and neither are home-wreckers.

Jack and Callie were attracted to each other from the start even knowing that Jack was actually attached at the time. I couldn't make myself to like Jack or Callie for that matter. They had a few stolen necking sessions like teenagers and decided to call it love. Too soon, by my standard anyway. Afterwards he broke off his engagement because of her and I just couldn't stomach the rest of the book and just flipped through.

Great cover and good writing style, just not a good story.

Better than the first one. It was a good story. The heroine had some backbone and the hero, debonnaire and easy-going had some depths himself.

The heroine, half-sister of the heroine of the previous book (the boring one ;) ) is working for the hero, on a old portrait. They fall in love. She cannot say who is her father, because her mother was her father's mistress. The hero had a fianceè (but he leaves her promptly) and a mother (unfortunately hard to get rid of). He wants to become governor and she feels that if she stays with him she can endanger his political career because of her secret.
Everything is fine in the end. Good

Hard to belive that this is written by my beloved JR Ward. As she states in the Forward, this was written pre- Black Dagger Brotherhood before she found her niche with darkness. I guess I expected more similarity to the Brothers characters but Jack was just missing the bad attitude yet vulnerable character I've come to love. Sure he starts off as the supposed ruthless businessman and womanizer in the beginning but transforms into a philanthropic, monogamist husband through the discovery of his true love but it just lacked something. The female lead Callie was also pretty forgettable...literally. I'm writing this review within 30 minutes of putting down the book and I had to pick it up again to find her name...I was thinking Cassie. Her whole rags to riches, independence and troubled childhood were all just too cliched as was the epilogue. Maybe if I didn't expect so much, I would have liked it more. I also tend to love the supernatural aspects of my romance novels so that might be contributing factor to my lack of enthusiasm as well. I did buy her other non-paranormal romance novel "The Rebel" and will read it...just not looking forward to it. I'm just glad Ms. Ward found her muse and enchants us all with BDB and Fallen Angels.

Wow, I read this years ago (2004?) and no idea it was a JR Ward !? This is complete departure from JR Ward's Paranormal style of writing and demonstrates again just how versatile an author she is.

Enjoyed this then and now as a nice spicy harlequin type modern romance book with the billionaire.

Loved the realistic little details about art history and restoration; and business mogul tactics. Nothing deep but very nice chemistry and sensual sex scenes.

This is part 2 of a series and can be read standalone and was a nice read. I am now going back to read the 1st book which is supposed to be better.

"4.5 stars" An Irresistible Bachelor is my favorite of Jessica Bird's contemporary romances I've read to date. It had a Cinderella story vibe to it with a down on her luck heroine who has no money and has just lost her job and a very wealthy but rather jaded hero. He hires her to restore a valuable painting of an ancestor that he has just purchased and returned to its rightful place in his family's collection. It doesn't take long for love to blossom between them, but their opposite sides of the track status stands in the way of their potential long-term happiness. There was also a light romantic mystery subplot that I really enjoyed involving the painting and a couple of love letters that were found in a box of old papers. The hero and heroine's relationship was sweet and tender, but rife with conflicts that kept me turning the pages to see how they worked everything out in the end.

Callie was the bastard daughter of a very wealthy man (she shares a father with Grace, the heroine of the previous book, An Unforgettable Lady) and his long-time mistress. He was never there for her, so she always felt like she was nothing but his dirty little secret and was only second-best to his other family. She had it ingrained in her from an early age that she could never tell anyone who her father was, and even though he's now dead, it's a rule she still follows religiously, in part to protect her half-sister who is very much in the public eye. Despite her father's riches, Callie has virtually nothing. She lives in a crummy apartment in New York, has only a few hundred dollars in the bank, and has just lost her job, when an opportunity presents itself to restore a priceless old painting. This is something Callie has dreamed of doing ever since graduating from art school, but at first she turns the offer down, worried about the reputation of the man who wants to hire her and the strong, immediate attraction she feels for him. Because of how her father treated her, there's also no love lost between Callie and her wealthy patron. In fact, being around someone that rich makes her somewhat uncomfortable. Callie is a proud and independent woman who holds her head up high and doesn't want any handouts from anyone, but eventually her strong desire to work on the masterpiece wins out over any misgivings she might have. Callie was a modern-day virgin which is pretty rare in contemporary romances these days and which I found quite refreshing. She's the sweet, ordinary girl next door, but she also has a strong backbone. I liked that she didn't take any crap from Jack's snobbish mother, or from Jack himself either.

Jack initially comes off as the consummate cold-hearted, take no prisoners businessman, who is only interested in deals that will make him scads of money. As a consequence, he's something of a workaholic, who cares for little else beside wheeling and dealing. He also has a checkered past, littered with tabloid news reports of ex-lovers and his wild ways. Of late, he's settled down a bit and has recently become engaged to one woman, but he doesn't love her. She's merely someone he respects as a friend and who will look good on his arm when he runs for governor. Jack isn't even sure he believes in love until Callie comes into his life. From the moment he first laid eyes on her, she's haunted his dreams, and once he has her living under his roof and working on the painting, she stirs within him the promise of something he never thought possible. She's basically everything he's not, but surprisingly finds that he wants to be. I love how protective Jack is of Callie and how he won't let his snobbish mom treat her like a servant. Even after he realizes she has no money, he believes she deserves only the best his money can buy, not because he's shallow, but because he truly cares for her and wants to make her life easier. As the story progresses, we see a new and improved Jack emerging, someone who has a good heart and really cares about and wants to help the people around him, but was perhaps afraid to do so in the past because of his father's profligate philanthropy. I love how Jack always seems to be in awe of the emotions Callie stirs in him. He's never felt anything like it before. It's all very new and exciting to him and almost too good to believe, yet he embraces it fully, allowing it to make him over into a new man. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this new Jack emerge from his cocoon as a result of his love for Callie.

An Irresistible Bachelor has a number of great secondary characters. Jack has a twin brother, Nate, who pretty much disdains the family fortune. He's a talented chef who wants to open his own restaurant, but who has a rather restless spirit. He was definitely a charmer though, and will be the hero of Beauty and the Black Sheep aka The Rebel, the first book in the spin-off series, The Moorehouse Legacy. Jack's best friend, Gray, goes out on a couple of dates with Callie while Jack is getting his head on straight concerning his feeling for her. Gray is a political insider who will become the hero of the second Moorehouse book, His Comfort and Joy aka The Player. Jack's mother, Mercedes, is a master manipulator and the character readers will love to hate. I was so glad to see Jack finally put her in her place. The family's personal chef, Thomas, was an intriguing guy, who oddly enough owns a classic purple GTO just like Rhage's in the Black Dagger Brotherhood. I'd also be remiss if I didn't mention Jack's dog, Arthur, who was one of the best animal characters I've read.

Overall, I really enjoyed An Irresistible Bachelor and have to agree that it was an apt title. Jack was pretty irresistible, and Callie was no slouch either. The Cinderella theme being one of my favorites only made the story all the more likable. The little side mystery was sweetly romantic though tragic. There's nothing I can think of that I didn't like about the book. The only thing that kept it from being a perfect five stars is that it seemed a little slow in places, which resulted in my mind wandering occasionally. All in all though, I had a really good time reading it, and I'm very much looking forward to Nate's and Gray's stories.

This just did not have the magic Jessica Baird wrote for Grayson/Joy’s book in “His Comfort & Joy” and I had to skim through to finish it and didn’t care for the storyline about art and all the damn family history for both MCs.

I also didn’t realize i read the books out of order as Grayson is actually a character in this book and still single.

Opinião do blogue Chaise Longue: http://girlinchaiselongue.blogspot.pt...

Second in the Unforgettable Lady romance series revolving around a group of friends and their families on the East Coast.

My Take
Another warm and intelligent romance between two people one of whom combines the artistic with the scientific while the other is ruthless in business. It explores the insecurities of a woman fed up with secrets yet unable to throw off a lifetime of keeping them while it delights in a man's first experience with love. No real surprise there after reading of his parents!

Ward continues to use misperception between Jack and Callie to create the greatest tension although Callie's accident with the painting incorporated a good bit of fear. What I don't understand is why Jack didn't throw his mother's origins back at her?! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! Nor why Callie didn't get on the phone to Grace a lot sooner.

I appreciate Ward not insulting us or her intelligent characters' understanding of the realities of political campaigning. I also adored Jack continually stepping up to defend Callie!

The Story
Oops, one isn't supposed to fall in lust with someone other than one's fiancée! After getting engaged in An Unforgettable Lady to Blair, Jack then fell in lust with Grace's half-sister, Callie Burke, an art conservator Jack hires to restore the Copley portrait of the first Nathaniel Walker.

Even worse, he intends that Callie restore the painting at his home in Boston. A real recipe for disaster when neither of them can keep their hands off each other setting off flashbacks for Callie of her parents' interactions while Jack is troubled by his own inability to resist.

When Callie refuses to tell Jack about her parents, he becomes conflicted over his growing love for her and his need to implement the changes he believes will help the state of Massachusetts if he becomes governor. A political race that could have disastrous results because of their relationship.

The Characters
Jackson "Jack" Walker is the younger twin who is engaged to Blair Stanford. The same twin who saved the family's bacon after Nathaniel VI, his father, pissed it away. Arthur is Jack's Irish wolfhound. Mercedes Walker is his scheming bitch of a mother. Elsie is Mrs. Walker's secretary.

Callie Burke is Grace Woodward Hall's dirty secret. Too loyal to betray Grace and angry over her father's betrayals, Callie wants nothing to do with the wealthy Jack Walker.

Thomas is the Walker family's one-armed cook. Grayson Bennett is helping Jack determine if he should run for governor and the first man Jack considers talking to as to whether he should take Callie on a date.

Grace Woodward Hall and Ross Smith (formerly John Smith) get engaged and play a small role (see An Unforgettable Lady). Karl Graves owns the hotel which Blair is currently renovating; I suspect he may become more involved in Blair's life later.

The Cover
The cover definitely gives off that playboy air with Jack Walker looking out at us, his shirt unbuttoned to display a gorgeous chest and his bow tie undone as he stands at the foot of a curving staircase. Jack definitely has the look of a determined and sexy man with that five o'clock shadow and his assessing gaze.

The title sums up what An Irresistible Bachelor Jack Walker is as well as an indicator of the reputation he must overcome with both Massachusetts and Callie.

I thought I'd step outside the BDB for a little while. This romantic novel had everything necessary to keep me from putting it down - suspense, social conflict, the characters fighting their attraction until they reach their breaking point and a heavy dose of angst.

Jack Walker made me swoon. When we first meet him he's engaged to a woman he considers a friend, someone comfortable, and someone who would look good on his arm as well as help polish up his playboy image before he decides to run for Governor. His only problem is Callie, the beautiful conservationist he hires to restore a masterpiece painting. As the attraction between then grows, he tries to become a better man for her because he knows she's unlike any woman he's ever met, nor can he treat her like all the others. Throw in their different social standings, a dragon of a mother-in-law and a lot of misunderstandings based on assumptions and you have the fixings for a drama packed story.

Callie has a deep, dark secret she's been hiding since childhood. Jack is the type of man she's sworn to avoid. When Jack hires her, that sneaky man whisks her away to his estate in Boston to restore his painting. Living under the same roof as him and his mother spells trouble and turns her world upside down. But can she have her cake and eat it too?

I thought Jack was really sweet when he finally realized what he had in front of him and took every measure to become the man that someone like Callie could eventually trust and love. He had a quicker turnaround than Callie's character. There were many times I wanted to grab Callie and throttle her, or at least shake some sense into her. Her past has left her so jaded that she doesn't see the simplest solutions to her problems. Her excuses for not telling Jack the truth of her background left me baffled. If she loves him then surely she can trust him. It takes her until the end of the story to finally let go. I wasn't particularly keen that it took that long for her to come to her senses. Regardless, I'm still giving this four stars because the plot was good and the conflicts kept the excitement up. It kept me guessing as to how they'd overcome their obstacles and my emotions were all over the place. Ms Ward is the master puppeteer when it comes to jerking the reader in all kinds of directions.

An irresistible story.

I must say I couldnt put this book down. It was so "irresistible". Jack is an attractive, smart, rich successful business man who falls in love with the unforgettable lady's sister Callie. Callie is the bastard daughter of a famous rich man and even though her father was wealthy she grew up in poverty and even after finishing school and got some painting, or art degree she is still very poor. So jack hires her to work on a families art work and they fall in love. Thing is he is engaged to another woman and as the story develops Callie finds her self in her mothers shoes as the other woman. At the end it all works out and I was fascinated by Jack and all the things he did to make being with her possible. He tried so hard to make it right between them, finished his engagement, confronted his mother and jeopardized his career as candidate for governor.
At the end they got married even though there were no details of the wedding and he won the elections. Oh and they're expecting a baby.
The flaw in this book is the detail the writer puts in the painting conservation or preservation or whatever. I can tell the writer is fascinated by the process but I found it boring and unnecessary. Also the story about the woman hidden in the painting reminded me of Mhurder in lover mine. I didn't know where the story was going.

It was nice reading about Nate walker from the novel "the rebel" who happens to be jacks twin brother.
I do realize I should have read these books in order, an unforgettable lady first irresistible bachelor next and the rebel at last, now i cant wait for Grays story.
I love this writer.

Recomendo.

I had high hopes for this book and for the wrong reasons. I have read every one of her J. R. Ward books, and while I knew the writing style is supposed to be different, I didn't expect it to be so different that the story was almost bad.
A good writer can write different with each persona (i.e. Evan Hunter/Ed McBain). Boy did she pull that off with this book! I think I will stick with her "other" persona and not read any more of her books written under her own name. Maybe I am being unfair but I have read enough books over my lifetime to recognize a really great book (all under J. R. Ward) or a really boring book, like this one.

http://oslivrosnossos.blogspot.pt/201...

The characters were continually annoying. He falls in love with her a very short time after he's become engaged to another woman. Our 'Hero' continues to pursue our heroine even though she rejects him and he's engaged. Then he's a pompous ass the whole time. High two low three stars.
