After leaving her painful past behind, she settles into the glossy comfort of Marin County with her fiancé, Michael, hoping that a new name and a picture-perfect routine will finally give her the peace she craves. But the illusion quickly cracks when they’re drawn into the orbit of Ethan and Claire, a seemingly perfect couple whose lives, like Rebecca’s, are not what they appear.
From the very first dinner, Rebecca is unsettled by Ethan’s charm and control, and she can’t shake the feeling that there’s something sinister beneath the surface, especially given the mysterious disappearance of his first wife. As Rebecca and Claire grow closer, Rebecca becomes determined to protect her new friend, convinced that history could be repeating itself.
Caught between her own haunted instincts and her fiancé Michael’s insistence that she’s imagining things, Rebecca must decide how far she’s willing to go to keep Claire safe, and whether she can truly leave behind the shadows of her past.
This book was such a wild ride! As a huge fan of psychological thrillers, I am always anticipating the twists and turns, but not with this one. I was so pleasantly surprised. This needs to be a movie or limited series!!!!!
At first I thought this was gonna be the typical psychological thriller book, but I was very surprised. It makes you wonder the whole time about each couples relationship. I like the multiple point of views. It honestly just kept me guessing the whole time!
Marital Bliss is an engaging psychological thriller with plenty of secrets, surprises, and emotional tension. If you enjoy domestic thrillers that make you question appearances and wonder what might be happening beneath the surface of a seemingly perfect relationship, this is definitely one to add to your reading list.
idk i liked it and i was intrigued, but i guessed the twist from the start… thinking “that can’t be it” but then it was? still had the shock factor though. i think i am biased because i am not a huge fan of 3rd person, but it was a good choice considering the several important characters and it made it easy to follow.
An impressive debut. I'm happy I tried out this new author; I'm always apprehensive to check out debut novelists but this novel is clever and JJ Lippman knows how to shock you!
Rebecca Moore is the perfect Stepford wife; or is she? From the first few pages, the reader will suspect that all is not as it appears, not with Rebecca, and most certainly not with the 3 other major characters. What first presents as two married couples learning the language of new friendship in an affluent suburban setting devolves so quickly into a mystery containing more twists than a double helix that you will find it difficult to put this book down. JJ Lippman has woven a masterful tale about deception, sociopathy and murder that will have you leap out of your chair and proclaim: “How did I not see this coming?” The writing is so beautifully descriptive and evocative it will pull you in and not let go.
