Perfect for fans of J. S. Scott and Emma Chase, Hendrix introduces the wild and sexy Caldwell boys—three brothers who are living up to their legendary names in Detroit Rock City.

Hendrix Caldwell wants nothing more than to revitalize the family bar—and tear down every last reminder of his no-good father. But business isn’t the only thing on his mind. An explosive encounter with a stranger at a charity masquerade is just the distraction he craves, with no names and no strings attached. For Hendrix, sex is casual, and love is a four-letter word. His commitment is to his brothers, his bar, and his bike. So why can’t he stop thinking about the naughty Cinderella who rocked his world, then left him—and her panties—behind?

Olivia Hemmingway knows fairytales are for little girls. Drowning in debt and hiding a shameful secret, she won’t be saved by a knight in tattooed armor, no matter how mind-blowing their one-night stand may have been. Olivia never expects to meet her masked lover again. But when she takes a job at Hendrix Caldwell’s bar, her sexy new boss seems all too familiar. And once the lights go out and the music is turned up, the sparks between them burn hotter than ever.

3.5 Stars. Hendrix and Olivia meet at a masked charity auction where things hot and heavy really fast in a closet as they let that spark between them catch full flame. Their one night stand leaves them both with lingering interest but they both move forward from that night with the mystery lover. In her search for a job, Olivia ends up working at a bar that is owned by none other than Hendrix. For a little bit, they don't know that they have run across their closet lover. Their feelings were already developing, but after finding out they already hooked up before, things get more interesting indeed. There is an underlying theme in this series of abuse. I ended up reading these out of order but it's definitely recurring. I didn't like Olivia's reaction to what would typicially be considered her closure. I understood the intent to some degree, but it felt too much like it was being downplayed and glossed over. There were instances where Olivia came across as not having much of a backbone but it was never more apparent than when she was faced with actually dealing with her issues. Overall, the plot was good and execution of the same fluctuated. Safety: No OW/OM/Sharing, though there is an ex-lover that gives the h a hard time. h is a victim of rape and though the scenes don't go descriptive as to violence or penetration, it goes through emotional descriptions of when it's not violent and when the victim has mixed feelings (i.e pleasure, fear, silence). This can be a trigger for some.

Is it me? Is something wrong with me that I’m just reading disappointing books lately?
Someone just hand me a good contemporary romance because this was not it.

Alright, so I have a big problem with women allowing people to boss them around. I have a big problem with women allowing men to boss them around because they got they’re horny for them.
Sometimes I don’t have a problem with broody male characters, sometimes they come along, you know? And I like finding redeemable things in a characters but oh my gods, Hendrix Caldwell is just pushy, rude and broody af.

I so don’t respect a guy who says shit like:

“That bitch is one of many.”

Oh, and this dude moved her out of her own apartment without asking her first. Without talking to her first and I get that he wanted her to live somewhere nicer but what an asshole.

description

I cringed but she just accepted it! He knew how hard she’s been working to get on her feet so that wasn’t fair.

I just hated it so fucking much.

Gods, Olivia is such a push-over. She wasn’t quirky and cute with her “empowering” panties, she was ridiculous. She was trying to be tough and stuff but heck, I could slap that woman and she’d probably start crying.

Oh, and don’t get me started with her problem with naming things. The girl couldn’t say the words pussy, dick, cock, penis, vagina, etc even to save her life. For her everything was down…there and my eyes rolled so hard they almost popped out of my face. How a 24 years old social worker can’t say the word “vagina”?

description

And I get that she went through serious shit and was abused but no one can give your sexuality back but yourself! Girl, get a grip. Masturbate or something but do not depend on someone with stuff like that.

You’re not being empowered, that’s surrendering and taking whatever you can get.

The writing style wasn’t that good either and the plot is something I’ve too many times before. The book was way too fast paced and therefore their relationship was rushed.

description

I really don’t have to read the rest of the book to know how it ends and now I don’t know if I’m going to keep up with the series until I get to the one I wanted to read, ugh.

Overall Opinion: This was a major bummer for me. I was really going into this thinking it would be a new favorite...but it wasn't. I didn't feel the connection between our h and H. Other than Hendrix's protective instinct towards her and his calling her "f-ing crazy" (which I guess is a good thing...?), I just didn't get it. By the end I wasn't as invested in their ending as I like to be. Don't get me wrong -- there were some enjoyable times in the book that made me give it 3 stars because I wouldn't say it was less than "just ok"...maybe my expectations were too high...?

Storyline: This is Olivia "Livi" and Hendrix's story. Livi is at a charity masquerade ball and is convinced by her friend to let loose, so she gets drunk and ends up having sex with a stranger in a closet. After some tough times, Livi decides she has to get a second job to help her out of her financial crisis. She gets a job at a dive bar with Hendrix...who...you guessed it!...happens to be the masked man at the ball. Neither of them realize their history for a while, but when they do their relationship turns to something more than boss/employee. They have some steamy times, more bad luck, a sick parent, a jealous ex-bed-buddy, some heavy baggage from the past, fall in love, and eventually find their HEA.

POV: Alternating between Livi and Hendrix's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good. No slow times, and even though I didn't understand their connection it was not what I would call "instalove".

H rating: 4 stars. Hendrix. I liked him. He made the book better for me. He was the oldest of 3 brothers, so he had a natural protective instinct that he used with Livi. I also liked that even though he was a man-ho previously with no relationship experience, he was loyal to Livi once they were together.

h rating: 2.5 stars. Livi. She was a little less than ok. I cringed when I was reading their first interaction and I was hoping that our heroine was the girl that Hendrix was referring to as "the Latina". I think maybe there was too much effort to make her awkwardness endearing. I have loved awkward, dorky MCs in the past, but I don't think she fell into that category. It just seemed like too much. She giggled too much, snorted when giggling, and she wore inspirational underwear that she physically rubbed her backside in public!! On the other hand...she was a hard worker, didn't like handouts, and didn't whine about her bad luck...which WAS endearing. I think they just missed the mark on making her "crazy" cute for me.

Angst level: Low. There is some heavy baggage that both characters deal with, but no tears for me.

Heat level: Moderate. Some steamy times, but not too many.

Descriptive sex: Yes.

Sex scene with OW or OM:

Cheating:

Possible Triggers:

Closure: This was a HEA ending for me. The couple finds their happiness and commit to each other for the long haul...though an epilogue would've been appreciated!

HENDRIX is a story of a man who grew up with a crappy dad and how he overcomes that gloomy shadow. His dad made bad choices that not only affected Hendrix and his brother’s lives but ruined Hendrix's mom's life. Now, as an adult, Hendrix is fueled with resentment for his father and the treatment of his mother. Determined to not become his father he makes sure to be the opposite of him every way that counts.

Hendrix owns and runs a bar. His life was going along smoothly until he meets a down and out woman - Olivia. Olivia is struggling to make ends meet. She's a hard worker and lands a job at Hendrix's bar where her life begins to dramatically change.

You know how there are things that stick out to you in books?! Well, I had that experience with this book. Olivia rubs her butt a lot in the book. She wears underwear that having sayings (such as Classy and Fabulous) on them and by rubbing her butt it reminds of her to be strong and confident. She refers to them as her empowerment panties. After the first few times, it got to be annoying and a little weird because she didn’t just do it in the privacy of her own home but whenever she needed a boost of confidence.

I didn’t connect with this book like I had hope. Maybe it was the timing of when I read it. Prior to this book I had just finished an amazing 5-star book. #bookhangover My friend suggested I continue on with the series because she really liked book 2. I may in the future but right now I have some other books on my reading schedule.

DNF 30% - I really tried to enjoy this book. I selected it after seeing the accumulation of 5*, however, unfortunately it just isn't for me.

Not sure why there's so many 5* reviews tbh...
description
description

Having read the sample, I assumed it would be a hot read featuring a strong heroine, however, it was rather formulaic, e.g. the first $ex scene in the closet was DRY and lacked the requisite DETAILS and CHEMISTRY to make it even remotely hot.
There was nothing sensual about the scene, rather it was lacklustre and boring. I prefer an interesting "meet cute"

-----------------------------------------

1. Writing Style :
I'm not a prude and have nothing against profanity, however, after every paragraph we're inundated with the F word, B**tch, or a$$ etc. It's effing this and effing that almost every other sentence.

Resorting to a surplus of profanity in order to create a gritty, dark and graphically austere atmosphere manifests a poor imagination.
description
-----------------------------------------

2. Characters :

Hero Hendrix Cadwell:
Tormented-HEATHCLIFF-Tattooed-Bad-Boy Player Tall-Dark-Handsome One-dimensional cliché

Tattoos and a hot body are NOT sufficient “attributes” to create an interesting character.
description
Inked so now I'm Super tough & Cool!
description
The guy sleeps around and uses sexist language to discuss women, then claims to “respect” women, while he evaluates them based on how good a “lay” she is, or on her physical attributes in really misogynist language (that’s fine if that’s the type of character you’re aiming for – but then the claims of “respects” are redundant).
description
description

Heroine Olivia Hemmingway:
Poor-Me-Broken-Sad-Past-Needs-Saving-Girl.
She assumes she’s an independent woman. I beg to differ. I also think she’s confused on what constitutes consent {closet scene where she’s clearly inebriated}.

And her "friend" Tabby (the "Latina") needs to learn what empowering women actually means.
Example, at the Fundraiser, Olivia is inebriated (by her own admission) to the point that she can’t remember details and is giggling away like crazy.
Hendrix encounters her there and they (with encouragement from her friend Tabby) have a quickie in a closet.
description
Olivia states that she never behaves this way, this was her first one-night-stand and that she ONLY instigated/allowed it because she was heavily drunk.

I don’t have a toxicology report, but if a woman is that drunk – IT IS DUBIOUS CONSENT and CAN BE RAPE!!

Now I don’t have a problem with dubcon erotica, but this is NOT a dark erotica/fantasy, and the protagonist clearly is keen on consent and even wears underwear taking this stand.

However, NOT ONCE did her "friend" ask her if she’s SOBER enough to be ABLE TO GIVE CONSENT IN A SITUATION WHEN HAVING $EX WITH A STRANGER THAT SHE JUST MET!!
(Of course having $ex with your partner while drunk can be implied consent, but that's not the case here).

Nor did Hendrix bother asking her if she was aware of what she’s doing, and sober enough to give consent.
He just shoves her into the closet (without even asking her name) and a few minutes later they go their separate ways with Olivia being told that she’s now empowered.
(And Olivia almost regretting the event the next day and stating that it was the alcohol)

-----------------------------------------

The story just became rather dull, as it focused far too much on creating the series, introducing the next set of characters.

I got bored. DNF.

5 Sweet, Very Sexy Stars

Well I finally finished this today and it was GREAT but then again what the heck else could I have expected from these two talented authors:)

This story was so sweet and although both Hendrix and Olivia had heartache in their lives, together, they were able to heal each other's hearts.... Can I say how much I LOVED BOTH of them. Hendrix, oh, Hendrix what a freaking hottie and can I say I can't wait to read about his brothers in the future!!!!! We should be in for a real treat with those two..... Olivia, I just loved her, she was kind and sweet and yep, loved her:)

This story was fast paced, well written and although low on angst and drama it was very HIGH on SEXINESS:) Oh gosh, they were great together!

Congrats to both authors on a story well done!!!!!!

I went into this book by a new to me author pretty uninformed and open minded. I ended up enjoying it a lot. I found the heroine to be pretty funny. I can see how she could annoy people and admittedly the butt rubbing got old. But I just imagined her to be a socially awkward, slightly broken, but hard working and sweet heroine. So she was pretty damn funny to me. I want some empowering panties!

Hendrix was domineering but exactly what she needed.

I really and truly loved this book. I'm a fan of both of the authors - and working together certainly didn't change that. The characters were fantastic. Hendrix was sexy, broody, and kind of an ass - but for Livi he was, as she said, a knight tattooed armor. Livi was funny and quirky, sad brave and amazing. Their story was wonderful - real and imperfect. I completely fell in love with both of them. The Calldwell brothers were amazing too. I cannot wait for their stories.

I went into this expecting the dark alpha world like Chelsea’s other series. This is pretty tame compared to those not that there is anything wrong with that but I was expecting more Alpha-ness. For those that have a harder time with the rougher stuff but have wanted to try this author this would be a good book to start with.

This book introduces us to 3 brothers who didn’t have the easiest time growing up with an alcoholic father who runs a bar and a mother who loved them but took their father’s abuse far longer than she should have. Present day their mother has died from cancer and now the oldest Hendrix Caldwell runs the bar. He is defiantly the one that took the heavier burden of the family on his shoulders and after finally kicking his father out of the bar decides it’s time for some changes.

Olivia Hemmingway is financially struggling after graduating college. She also hasn’t had it easy. Her parents divorced when she was young so she had to live her life going back and forth between their homes states away from each other. It was during those times at her father’s that something horrible happens that changes her but she is determined to not let it define her.

When Olivia applies for a job at Hendrix bar they don’t realize how their worlds are going to change. I did like the two of them together. They complimented each other well and Hendrix helped Olivia overcome her issues along with being her biggest supporter by some surprises toward the end of the book.

I bought this book before the re-release and read it, it's been awhile but gotta say the story is amazing. Brothers growing up with an awful example of a Father but given a strong foundation and heart from their mother. Hendrix being the oldest looked out for his brothers and mother when he got big enough, he made something of himself and he promised himself he will never be like his old man. Livi doesn't feel comfortable in her own skin, her friends are trying to help her and a blurry encounter in a closet she is starting to see her power. This is an amazing read with characters that endure you to them and invite you into their lives with laughs and heartache. I voluntarily read the updated copy of this book and could not put it down.

ARGUMENTO:

Realmente?..... no me gustó

description

I really enjoyed this book, it's Hendrix story, oldest from the Caldwell brothers. He and his brothers have had a hard childhood, and now he owns his own bar and he is a hard worker. And, he only has time for one night stands.
Olivia Hemingway also has had a hard life and with a traumatic experiences growing up. She is a hard worker barely making ends meet. As a social worker she attends the same fundraiser with her work friends. Her friends dare her to hook up with a stranger! She is shy, but quirky and hasn’t been able to have fun. She see’s Hendrix at the bar getting a drink. Hendrix see’s her and they hit it off!
They find a closet and have a hot encounter then she walks out.
Olivia needs a part time job to make ends meet and yes, she shows up at Hendrix’s bar. She and Hendrix are so attracted to each other they eventually start a sizzling 🔥🔥 sex only relationship. But mister dark sexy and broody cannot resist Olivia.
I always love MJ Fields books, they have sexy alpha males and strong heroine. This is another must read, it’s a great storyline with interesting characters and secondary characters. My only problem is lack of attention to details, she usually always has great details. But, I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading this series.

Sexy, funny and fast paced!

Hendrix and Livi are complete opposites, but a masked one night stand, turns into so much more when Livi ends up taking a second job at Hendrix’s bar. Both of these characters are strong on their own, but together, they are quite amazing.

The prologue of this book had me in tears, watching Hendrix and his brothers say goodbye to their mother was heartbreaking, and I felt connected to Hendrix, Morrison, and Jagger after reading the first few sentences of this story. Fast forward and Hendrix is asked to go to a masquerade ball for his brother, and he meets a sexy siren and hooks up with her in the broom closet. No matter what he can’t get her out of his head, so he’s shocked when he finds out that that girl is his new employee Livi.

When Livi graduated college she knew things wouldn’t be easy, but she’s got a good job, a crappy apartment, and good friends. When she has her one night stand, she felt awful and liberated by it all at once. She’s in a tough place with money, so she ends up taking a job as a bartender at a dive bar down town.

The back and forth between Hendrix and Livi was hilarious, full of fire, and sexy, and that was before they even realized who they were to one another. Watching these two navigate working together, and feeling the things they did, and then a relationship was one beautiful story. Hendrix was kind of a jerk at times, but he proved over and over again his love for Livi and that he would do anything to keep her safe and make her happy. Livi is a bit naive at times, but she does the best she can with the circumstances she’s been handed. Watching her grow from when we met her in the beginning of this book to who she was at the end was awesome. She’s grown so much, and she’s just a little crazy!

This story was fast paced, and kept me intrigued from beginning to end, and I LOVED how this book ended! I loved Hendrix and Livi, and can’t wait to read Jagger and Morrison’s stories, especially after getting to know them a bit in this book.

5 Broody stars

Wow, I Love the Caldwell brothers

Like a modern day version of a fairytale princess.

Its like Cinderella and her little panties she left at the ball and he's her broody tattoo'd knight.

Liv is trying to change, be stronger and move on from her past so like it's on her bucket list a hot fumble in the closet at a masked mascerade is out of her comfort zone and she certainly didn't plan on seeing him again.

Manwhore Hendrix owns a bar and these three hot alpha brothers are yet to fulfill their mamas dying wishes and settle down with the right girl. They stick together as one and together they are a family.

When dorky Liv enters the bar for a job, something in Hendrix can't refuse.

I loved the closeness with the Caldwell brothers and how they were protective of Liv and took her in, lots of swoony moments with Hendrix.

Told in dual povs, I loved the humour the hotness, great plot and the characters. Recommended read. looking forward to more.

This saga of a band of brothers started off pretty good, and I liked the hero, the older brother, Hendrix.

I have anticipated reads to get to, so I'll cut this short and say: If you want a yummy protective, sort of quiet New Adult "alpha-enough" hero who can love a female and all her quirks in more than all the right ways, then read this one for a good two to three hour jaunt through some heartbreak and the some heartbeats of family, love and home.

The story attempted to convey these themes, and they were almost pulled off enough for 4 stars, but not quite. Due to some parts that seemed to be missing and less descriptive, I couldn't get all the "feels" I would have preferred to experience.

Off to knock a couple more down.

Happy Reading.

This an an honest review for an ebook received.

“You make everything feel right, Hendrix. With you, I feel like all is as it should be, like everything will be okay, after all.”

Olivia Hemmingway is a quiet and quirky woman who is trying to find her place in the world. She finds confidence in inspirational underwear that she wears to remind herself that she can accomplish anything. A chance encounter will a beautiful stranger at a masquerade party could be just what her confidence needs. But when she falls on hard times and picks up a second job at a bar, her world changes.

“Livi, like it or not, you’re my family.

Hendrix Caldwell is the oldest of the Caldwell boys. Still reeling from a deviating loss, he has no idea how he will honor his mother’s last wishes. When a quirky girl asks for a job at his bar, he doesn’t realize how important she will become to him.

Forgiveness is letting go of the emotions holding you back.

5 steamy stars! Hendrix and Olivia are perfect together. I loved how he built her up and never let her fall. He is so protective over her it warms the heart. What an amazing start to this series. Can’t wait for the next book.

This is a story of survival and overcoming horrific childhood abuse and becoming who you were meant to be...from every dark place we have to find some place of light.
I have read each of these authors separately...one writes down and dirty alpha male stories filled with lust, bad choices and consequences...the other writes heartfelt family dramas full of hard luck stories and beautiful love sagas of fighting for what you believe in. I was excited to hear they joined forces and produced the first of the Caldwell Brothers series...and what a heart-breaking and power-packed book this was! Three brothers who bond together to fight off the demons of their less than happy childhood meet a woman who is in desperate need of a job...and unknown to her, the mysterious man she had a close encounter with one dark and sexy night, happens to be her new boss.
What happens when Olivia and "mystery man" Hendrix meet and start to form a work relationship only to discover who each other really is, was magical and fun and oh so sexy. There are some terrific funny conversations going on between Olivia and all three of the Caldwell boys...I personally would have given any of them a turn (HOT brothers with attitude)...but there was a chemistry with big brother Hendrix and a sense that these two needed each other to overcome the inner torment each was dealing with.
I don't want to spoil what the serious issues are that they are living with (I have personal experience with some and although I won't say which, I am a survivor) and this book, for all the steam and humor it has, also contains some pretty heavy subject matter that could trigger bad memories in readers who have "been there and done that". I feel like the topics were handled with sensitivity and although somewhat graphic in description, they were honest and a realistic depiction of what it feels like to go through what Olivia did...and find a way to live with yourself afterward.
If you like the bad boy alpha male type hero and you want a little more depth to your stories along with a passionate love story...then Hendrix is the book for you. I can't wait to read the next two brothers' books in the series...a job well done ladies!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Hendrix but particularly Olivia were both immature. They were in their mid twenties but acted more like teenagers. Their conversations were cheesy and lacked intelligence. Hendrix was alright, but his macho you are mine bullshit was irritating. Olivia seriously needed to get her shit together. She was barely functional and depended on others to tell her how to live her life.

Olivia had been sexually abused as a teenager and was traumatized by it. Her method of coping was to buy underwear with empowering sayings on them. So she walked around rubbing her ass frequently as if it magically made the words on her underwear have real power. Eventually she was forced to confront her rapist.

Check out this DYNAMIC DUO!!

I’m a big fan of MJ Fields’s work but honestly, have never read Chelsea Camaron’s, so I was wondering how their writing styles would mix and would Hendrix and the Caldwell Brothers stand up to MJ’s previous works. Well wonder not my fellow Alpha Male lovers, their styles blend beautifully. In fact, Chelsea will be a new author for me to explore. Yay!! Love finding new authors...

On to the story... I loved this book!! It has everything you need for a well-rounded journey into the Alpha Male and his love. It made me laugh, cry (there are some deep underlying situations here), and scream at some skeevy characters, The brothers are absolutely delicious and will have wonderful books of their own and I will ogle all over them just as I have Hendrix. Livi is a fun and crazy contrast to Hendrix and instantly you know they belong together and root them on all along.

Don’t miss this debut novel of these two amazing authors. I truly hope it’s the beginning of a long collaboration between them. They get what is needed to fill our deep seated need for fairytale LOVE!!

I really liked this one, sort of surprising as I wasn't sure about Hendrix at the start. I liked how adorkable Olivia was, her underwear cracked me up. I liked that she was determined to take care of herself, but happy to see her get sidelined by Hendrix. With Hendrix it seemed like he was fighting his feelings for much of the book, yet he was always there when Olivia needed someone. He wanted to love Olivia, but didn't want to end up like his dad. I was glad when he realized that he also had his mom's legacy, one that she wanted him to live up to.

Not bad. Nice character development and interesting backstories. I did have some issues. The heroine's need to rub her butt all the time was odd and kind of gross when you think that she served drinks and food. Some plotlines failed to develop, making me wonder why they were added while others resolved in a rather lackluster fashion.

Olivia si me saca de quisio en algunas ocaciones pero puedo vivir con esta heroina; Hendrix ummmm me gusto bastante su forma de ser y el resto.

En general disfrute del libro pudo ser mejor pero es lo que es.
