The Bregdan Chronicles #8

Shifted By The Winds

Rate this book
Shifted By The Winds is the eighth book in the Bregdan Chronicles historical fiction series. As of today, there are 10 books in the series. Make sure you start reading with # 1 – Storm Clouds Rolling In. It's readers like you who have turned the series into a world-wide best-seller. Thank you! Book Will Reconstruction really change America? Carrie and her housemates battle cholera in Philadelphia. Her world is turned upside down when she discovers the truth of her heritage. Will it completely change her path? Robert watches his dreams fade before his eyes when he refuses to align himself with southern beliefs after the war. Rose has to face down a new threat, and Moses is forced to step into the role he has avoided. Janie has agreed to marry Matthew, but can she actually move beyond her fears and become his wife? And will Jeremy realize Marietta’s life as a Mulatto’s wife is just too dangerous for the woman he loves? So many of the characters you have come to know and love face both challenges and joys in this turbulent time in history. Volume # 8 of The Bregdan Chronicles continues the sweeping historical saga that now encompasses the continuation of American Reconstruction. How many books will be in the Bregdan Chronicles? No one knows yet… Ginny intends to write these character's stories, one year at a time, for as long as she is able to write. She is passionate about bringing history to life through historical fiction. Since she is amazingly healthy, that could be for a very long time! She doesn’t like stories to end any more than you do. This one won't end for a very long time! Ginny Dye has done it again! This book is so new that I don't want to do any spoilers in this review. But I will say that I believe a person would benefit the most from this amazing series if they would read the first book, Storm Clouds Rolling In, and then proceed from there. That way, you become acquainted with all of the characters in the series and what they have all been through. In this one, book #8 in the series, it is just after the Civil War has ended and even though slavery was abolished, the South will not accept that their way of life is gone forever. Some of them are still trying to hold onto to the old way of life no matter what the cost. Which makes living in the south dangerous for all blacks or anyone who stands with the blacks. We, once again, follow Carrie Cromwell Borden, on her journey through life and the amazing things this woman accomplishes. If you are a person who enjoys reading about the Civil War Era, I think you will love this book. At times, throughout the reading of this series, the politics were a bit daunting for me, but the politics are necessary for one to know what is happening in the country at the time. It is my opinion that Ginny Dye is a genius at being a writer. It is so very obvious that she's had to put hundreds, if not thousands, of hours into research in order to write this magnificent series The Bregdan Chronicles. It is the very best account of life in the south before, during, and after the Civil War that I have ever read. I just hate that I must wait another year before reading book# 9. This is the #8 of a 9 book series dealing with the lives and horror of the Civil War. I have never been so emotionally involved with books as I have with the Bregdan Chronicles. I have learned so much about how the war started, and the fact that after the war the abolitionists, black people, and Southerners were still at war. Many lives were lost years after the war. A different kind of war.

Wow...

This story just keeps getting better. Most of the time I don't like reading different view points. But with this series I am so wrapped up in all the characters that I wouldn't have it any other way. I actually enjoy reading these different view points and hearing what everyone is thinking or how they see the situation they are in. I know the issues that are dealt with in this book are still going on today, and that saddens me. Issues like slavery, domestic abuse, and even equality for women and other races. The Bregdan Principle is truly something to live by. Every life matters. You can change history with the choices you make. This series is truly inspirational. Can't wait for the next one!

This series is so addicting. Great story with many great side stories for the many characters that make this book come to life. Looking forward to reading #9 soon, I like to take a little bit of a break between each book when reading a series. Thanks for this series!

I've enjoyed this series immensely as it's chock full of history plus good storylines. I was disappointed, though, that one of two characters had to die. I won't say who as I don't want to spoil it for other readers.

The struggle for freedom continues among the blacks in America after the Civil War. Conditions are even worse for them as vigilantes and white people fear losing their way of life.

This latest novel in the Brendan Chronicles centers on post-Civil War Philadelphia and the Cromwell Plantation. A cholera epidemic in Philadelphia is decimating the population, especially in the Irish sector of the city. Carrie, of course, becomes involved in trying to save lives, and she finds out that medical school has not prepared her for this life-threatening disease. In the meantime, Janie copes with the fear she has about marrying the love of her life, and the residents of Cromwell Plantation live with the constant fear of vigilantes attacking them and their school, due to the remaining prejudices of the Southerners who cannot adapt to blacks being free. Robert begins his dream of breeding fine horses, but no one wants to deal with him because of his acceptance of blacks being paid to work on his plantation. Once again, an illuminating glimpse into history while a fascinating story line continues. Can't wait for the next installment!

Seriously one of my favorite series ever, and I've read a ton of them. I binge read the entire series that at the time was 11 books long. I couldn't stop to take the time to write an in-depth review of each book because I needed to know what happened in the next one.

Read them. Read them all. Unless you are renting from my library. In that case please wait until I return any new releases because I must read them first. :)

LOVED every single Ginny Dye book! Wonderful research into the period before and during the Civil War. Same wonderful research for the reconstruction period. What I love the most about all eight of her books is that she explores the era and the environment from the personal point of view of fascinating characters, landowners, politicians, rich, poor, educated, uneducated, educators, masters, slaves, women, children, Yanks and Rebs - virtually a cross-section of the population. Romance and adventure are present everywhere! I am eagerly awaiting Ginny's next book!

Inspiring & Engaging!

If history could be told in this format, everyone would enjoy & want to read it. It reaches out to me beyond just a "story", providing words of wisdom that help me through every day life......how to fight personal fears, how to care about others, and the importance of forgiving. I learned so much about the civil war & its impact on both blacks & whites, north and south that I want to learn more. It is a fascinating, unique series that I'd recommend to everyone.

Learning about the Irish slaves brought me tears!

After believing most my life we were mostly German, my research and DNA has brought us to our Irish heritage! We have not been able to find who came first but our ggg-grandfather was born in Maryland. Nothing on his parents can be found! This book makes me wonder if they could have come over on a slave ship and were indentured slaves!
Your series has been the most interesting and makes a person feel like one of the family! I am so hoping the 10th book will be ready when I finish the 9th.

Amazing ! She captures the hearts and minds of her readers as she guides you through a difficult time in our History.
The Civil War has always been a hobby of mine to learn more about. So many of my ancestors fought in the Civil War, some for the South and a lot from the North.
Ginny Dye makes it so easy with her style of writing that you just sail through the books.
Waiting patiently for the next one !

I loved all of the books published, so far, in this series (1-8); I enjoyed every detail of the characters: Cromwell family, friend, acquaintance, etc. and all the history of the Civil War included within these stories. Both the contrasts and comparisons from the northern vs southern views of the events in the country during this era were interestingly detailed for me. I had not read any fiction or nonfiction on the Civil War for over 30-years. I am excitedly awaiting Book #9!

Amazing!!

I devoured the entire series up to this point in record time. I don't think I can hold out until the next book is released. As a teacher, I would love to have students read this series to get a new and different perspective on the civil war and reconstruction period. This set of stories would make a wonderful TV/mini-series!!!

It will be hard to wait....

I've loved each of these books! I love the characters and can hardly wait to see what'll happen to them next. And Ms Dye has made me think that what is important is how they choose to take control of their lives! This is the first time that I can't just buy and start the next one
