I think the best I can say for Ortiz is that he has potential. His characters are at least somewhat unique and likable. His writing, however, needs serious help. Serious punctuation ignorance, random colons where they don't belong, bad sentence structure, numerous typos. To say this book needs editing is a tragic understatement. And that's by and large one of the worst covers I've ever seen.

"Synching my towel...

I believe the word he was looking for was "cinching'.

At 19%, Martin asks about Peg's mom and Avery says, "His mother died when he was two."

At 53%, Avery reminisces about how he and Daisy (his late wife) first took Peg to the zoo when he was "barely three-years-old".

I thought zoos generally frowned upon corpse chaperonage.

"Monday rolled around and I drove Boone, Cotton and I to the Atlanta International airport."

Well, I for one am glad he didn't leave himself at home. That could've been awkward.

80%: "'Where do you want to go to dinner tonight, Sweets?' Avery asked."

Very next page: "Avery had already made reservations for us at Avanti Blue."

82%: "Home, he'd said it again. He'd called my house, home."

I read the previous three paragraphs like, three fuckin' times, and not once did Avery say anything about a house or a home. So...yeah.

"'Fuck, Martin, yank on my boys!'"

Avery Myer is the oldest of triplets, bisexual, a widower, father of one, and an excellent butcher. He has no one in his life, no love life, only his brothers and son. He's looking for someone, but maybe a sex club is the wrong place?

Martin Gaither, bisexual, divorced father of one, who's looking for someone, but is a sex club the answer to his quest. Martin's casual encounter with Avery, seems to mean nothing, but Martin feels a spark. He want's more with this bearded man, when Avery abruptly leaves. A few weeks later, the two men are reunited as they are dropping their children off at the same school. Kismet!

What a loving story this is. It's a wonderful tribute to loving, close knit families. Watching the relationship between Avery and Martin grow, the combined families, and the parenting of their two offspring, made this an incredible reading experience. The dialog is sharp, and funny. This story will leave you feeling "All's right with the world", for a little while.

Avery, butcher, widower and father to 7 year old (Winni) Peg, also eldest of identical triplet brothers. He's quiet and stoic, meets Martin, the chatterbox and divorced father (of Poppy) and so after a combustible first meet and then a shock second meeting, begins a slow paced coming together of them as a couple and as a family.

I liked that both men seemed a little older and not buffed and sixpacked. Their initial meeting was hot and fast and then the slip back into "daddy mode" (and I don't mean into leathers!!!) made the story believable - no real drama or miscommunication. The introduction to the family and siblings raised a few eyebrows, especially with Martin's back story. Boone and Mawmaw were a riot and made me smile!

Overall, the writing was at times over descriptive with a lot of time and motion, but it only seemed to add to the charm of this low angst tale. There were a few editing issues, but nothing too irritating to take you away from the story. The last couple of paragraphs were sweet and fluffy and would have been better placed in an epilogue due to the leap of 9 months..... but that would be back to editing.....

Now onto Boone, this should be interesting!! Enjoyable read.

Editing was not great, but meh, didn't bother me enough to detract from story. Made me laugh quite a bit.

4.5 Heart Review by Dan

Welcome to the new series from Mathew Ortiz! I was, at first, disappointed when he announced this new series would be coming before more Oswald Witches books, but I’m over that now! I really enjoyed this new set of characters, and how Matt managed to tie in the characters from his Love and Salvage series and his Renovating Love series. It is good to see them all coming together, and makes me think Matt is just writing about real people living up there in Georgia! Oh, and I LOVED when Martin unwraps what he bought for Avery from Desdemona Darkly!

In this first installment of the new series, we focus on “the butcher”, or Avery Myer. Avery is the “oldest” of three triplets since he was born first. Thus, he is the A, his brother Boone is the B and his brother Cotton is the C.

Avery has always been the responsible, dependable and reliable brother. He met his wife when he was young, they had a baby, they were totally in love, and then she was taken from him by a tragic auto accident. Even though he is bisexual, we get the impression that he has never explored that side of himself as much. All that changes one night when he finally takes Boone and Cottons advice (unknown to them) and visits Hobbin’s Gym and Sauna (a fancy name for a bath house).

Martin Gaither is Levi’s brother from the book Skin Tight Levis. Martin is also the responsible one, he has a daughter from a previous marriage, and is also bisexual. He is so responsible and white bread, that he even drives a Buick sedan. He also hasn’t found love and decides to try out some lust instead at the same “Gym and Sauna”.

When the two men meet outside in the pool, hot times ensue! But immediately afterwards for some reason Avery rushes away. What could have been an abrupt end to their story though, takes a turn for the better when Martin and Avery run into each other (literally) while dropping their kids off on the first day of school. Where can it go from here? Avery has his son, Peg, and Martin has his daughter, Poppy. Can two single bisexual dads find the time for each other?

No further spoilers. I enjoyed this book very much, and lest you worry, there is tons of hot sex for those so inclined….including some black anal beads…and lots of wild monkey sex!

For those of you who have been following along with Matt’s books since the beginning, like I have, you will definitely see that Matt is growing by leaps and bounds in his writing. His character depth makes these characters seem three dimensional. In addition to the MCs, he also writes some great background characters like Mawmaw in this book. I was also happy to get a hint near the end of the book about who the MCs in “The Baker” are going to be as well you big old tease, Mr. Ortiz.

I highly recommend this new book, and can’t wait for the story of the baker and then the story of the custom bike maker!

The Butcher is a sweet story filled with hot men, hot sex, and lots of delicious food. I’d suggest you eat first before you read this book because it will leave you hungry in more ways than one!

The story opens up with a sex scene, and this usually can go either way. Either it’s good, setting a sexy playful tone, or it’s like bad porn with no feelings, and goes downhill from there. It definitely worked here, though, because it was hysterical!

Martin Gaither, one of the Gaither cousins from the Love and Salvage series, visits a bath house, and is regretting his decision because the men don’t catch his eye one bit—but the lack of cleanliness does. The story is told from his POV, and his sarcastic inner monologue will have you laughing out loud. He finally meets Avery Meyer, and the first words out of Avery’s mouth are, “I’m horny.” Well you can just guess what happens next. They have a very hot interlude, and after the high, Avery realizes what he’s done and hightails it out of there. Martin’s disappointed but resigned that that’s how things are.

Weeks later, both still can’t forget that night. They bump into each other on the first day of school. Each one has a child, and on the first day of first grade, they have a very awkward and funny encounter at school! Their reactions are priceless. They make a date and go from there, and that’s the story; them getting to know each other, starting a relationship and, yes, always eating. Seriously, you need to eat before you read this because who knows what you’ll do on an empty stomach!

Mr. Ortiz knows how to write hot Southern men. They have sex appeal, charm, some are more alpha than others, they are secure in who they are, yet they are always looking for their true love. They love their families and friends, some are real mama’s boys, but they are all good men who just want love and companionship. These are my favorite type of characters to read about. All his characters are sarcastic and funny, and always find the bright side to life. This story is a love affair between two men who are meant to be together. They get their happy ending and eat more food!

The ending is a set up for Boone’s story, and it looks like it’ll be loads of fun too. I really loved this book. I had a smile plastered on my face throughout. If you love sex and food you’ll love this book. Can’t wait for Boone’s story next!

The Butcher, The Baker, The Custom Bike Maker is book # in The Myer Triplets Series by Matt Ortiz.

This book is about Avery Myer "The Butcher"
Avery is the quiet one who is also a widower and father to a little boy named Peg while his brother Boone is the prankster and Cotton the moody one.
With much persuasion from his brothers, Avery hesitantly ventures out one night to Atlanta's infamous Sex Club Hobbins and meets a sexy as sin red head where they share a hot steamy encounter but he is so freaked out that afterwards he takes off like a bat out of h***.

Martin Gaither, divorced father of a little girl named Poppy is feeling lonely while watching his family all paired off so he ventures out one night to the infamous Sex Club in Atlanta and... you guessed it : meets up with a sexy bearded stud and engages in one Hot encounter only to have the guy run when it's over.
Confused and thinking he will never see this guy again, Martin goes about his routine until one day a chance meeting brings both Avery and Martin face to face each with their kids in tow.

Martin is a jabber jaw who can't stop talking, whereas Avery is a man of very few words, together they compliment each other and watching these two get to know each other , date and how they manage to fit so perfectly each being such great dads we witness the both of them as they take this journey to find happiness.

The side characters in this story are amazing especially Avery's Mawmaw she believes she is old and doesn't have to keep her opinions to herself and let me tell you she will have you hysterical laughing and Avery and Martin blushing. While you will have plenty of laughs in this book I will tell you the sex between Avery and Martin is off the charts "HOT"

I love how Matt writes these stories, they are fast reads and the story flows just right ,and in this series we see how Martin Gaither and Avery Myer's families will eventually be linked together and I'm so excited for that outcome.
If you have read Matt's "Love and Salvage Series" you will recognize Martin's surname "Gaither"

I highly recommend reading this new series and am really looking forward to the next book in which we can kinda guess which brother it will be about. " inserts happy grin"

Matt has brought back the Gaither clan and introduced us to a fabulous set of triplets as well

Martin Gaither is a single, lonely man. He wants to find someone to love him, but in the meantime, going to a sex club was a good way to blow off some steam. There, he meets Avery Myer; and they have a hot encounter before Avery has cold feet and runs away. It's funny how fate works out sometimes...because Martin literally runs into Avery the first day of school for their daughter and son, respectively. The sparks are still there and they make a coffee date. I swear the sparks were almost visible from these two. They were so hot together throughout the book.

Avery is the oldest of the set of triplet boys. The triplets, their mother, and grandmother live in two houses next to each other. Their grandmother is a riot as are the boys. They may pick on each other a lot, but they stick together when one of them needs help. They have a strong sense of family. Avery is a widower with a son. He loved his wife, but she died in a car accident and his son is his priority. He finds it hard to find anyone who will take on the commitment of a ready made family.

Martin is divorced. He is good friends with his ex-wife, but they just not meant to be together. Martin is quirky, and I loved every minute of it. Avery clearly did as well. They are a well-balanced together and watching them grow as a couple was wonderful. They had their trials as they navigated their jobs, finding time together, and taking care of their respective children. Meshing two families together is always tricky and they took their time about it.

I loved learning more about the Myer triplets and can't wait to read the next book with Boone. Those boys are fun to read about and I'd love to have friends like them.

Awesome!

I loved this book! So great to see the Gaithers again. In this story, Martin has a one off in a gay club with Avery. Avery freaks out and leaves. Both felt a connection though. Cut to the first day of school and guess who runs into one another?? You guessed it Martin and Avery! Deciding they would like to see where this can go is the meat of the story. Such great characters, tons of fun and laughter, and super hot sex between Martin and Avery! What more could you ask for??? Hmmmm, the next book, I think! Well done Matt!

Avery and Martin both fell hard and fast for the other. Avery's man bun was a big turn on but there wasn't much else to get overly excited about.

I took off one star for editing issues and one for overuse of simple sentences/describing every single action done by characters. "I did this. I grabbed that. I walked here. I opened that."

The book was readable but there were definitely areas where the writing could be tightened up.

Still, I'll probably check out more from this author. I am interested to see what happens with the other triplets, especially Cotton.

What a beautiful, fun breath of fresh air (and farts. Yes, farts. Read it...and laugh). This was my first book by this author and I loved it! It was real, raw, real, funny, real, smokin' hot and did I mention real? I think that was what I enjoyed the most. These were real men with real problems and quirks and real siblings who teased and fought like real people. And their kids were real too with real fears and real snark and sarcasm. An unforgettable tale that left me yearning for more.

Such an enjoyable read!

Loved this! Everything about this book was just right. Two extremely likeable MC's. Even their kids were adorable and added to the story. Note: I'm not a huge fan of kids, haha, but these were really great and not at all obnoxious (as kids tend to be). This was a cool mixture of wholesome and HOT. Very much anticipating the next two in the series.

Great beginning to a new series! I really liked how the author introduced us to most of the family that the series is going to revolve around. Avery and Martin just fit! Loved how they took their kids into their decisions. That's how life is when you have children. Can't wait for the next book!

The Butcher

You never know where Cupid will shoot you when you meet the love of your life and Avery and Martin are proof of that. Mathew has a way of letting his readers lose themselves in his writing and his characters have, such feeling you can't help but love and wanna be a part of their lives. I can't wait for more.

Awesomeness

Loved the characters, the triplets' relationship was really cool! Love how multiple series are tied together. It did need a smidge more editing, but easily the story comes through strong.

This book was quite the disappointment to me : while the characters were promising and the writing fluid and agreeable, the book felt unfinished. Whether it was the plot, too easy and predictable, or the dialogues which sounded wrong, the secondary characters which were reduced to stereotypes... I don't know. The base was here but the book didn't follow through for me.

Unique Story line with triplets. Love Mathew Ortiz writing style. Book can be read alone from his other series but would be enhanced if you read love and salvage series because some of the MC's are mentioned but they are explained so you do NOT have to read the other series.
