I don't usually read mystery books but I'm so glad that I got to read this one. Audra is the owner of a flower shop and while working on the order for a funeral for a recently deceased young woman she gets visited by the spirit of the woman. Thus begins a very intriguing and winding search for answers as to how this young lady died and was her death really from natural causes. The cast of characters is as interesting as the story itself. There are the two ladies who help in the shop along with a delivery driver and the shop cat. Then there is the deceased along with the funeral director, the husband and the in-laws. An important person is added when the son of one of Audra's loyal customers drops in to get birthday flowers for his mom and sparks fly between him and Audra. It turns out that the guy is a detective on vacation to visit his mom for the Christmas holiday. As they get to know each other better in a personal manner, it turns out that he can also help from a professional capacity. As with any good mystery, things are not always as they seem and they are never cut and dried. This book was the perfect combination of who dunit and light romance with some laughter thrown in. I definitely did not want it to end and I'm very excited to read the next one.

Roses Are Dead has a wonderfully unique cozy setting: a florist shop in a picturesque small town filled with quite the cast of characters. And, importantly, there’s a dog and a cat!

This story blends cozy mystery with paranormal elements, including a ghost and plenty of witchy vibes, alongside a sweet, slow-building romance. Set over the Christmas season, it’s full of atmospheric holiday details that make it an especially fun read for this time of year.

My favorite parts were the humor, Audra’s interactions with Kara’s ghost, and the slow and steady development of Jackson and Audra’s relationship. Their romance unfolds naturally alongside the mystery rather than overtaking it, which worked really well for me.

Definitely recommended for cozy mystery fans who enjoy their small towns full of secrets, their romance with a splash of the paranormal, and an HEA. And that little teaser for the next book? I’m ready.
