Killing them was her fantasy... soon to be her reality...Two women. Two pasts they can’t outrun. One violent path that will bring them together.
When a series of brutal murders hits Manchester’s criminal underworld, rookie detective Liv Mendes is determined to prove herself. The victims are dangerous men, but the killer is skilled, and leaves almost nothing behind — a level of precision that doesn’t fit gang retaliation, despite what her colleagues insist.
Liv senses something else. Something personal.
Because somewhere in the city, a woman who once survived hell has spent five long years preparing. Training. Waiting. And now the names she feared seeing again have finally resurfaced, forcing her to finally take action.
As Liv digs deeper, the truth behind the killings becomes harder to ignore — and even harder to condemn. The closer she gets to the killer, the closer she gets to her own buried past… and the line between justice and revenge begins to blur.
Gritty. Dark. Relentless. Wronged Woman is a revenge thriller with a conscience.

This is the first in a new series featuring Liv who has recently changed teams within the police force. She is a single mum who has her own demons she is trying to overcome. She doesn’t have it easy trying to juggle work and home life of which she also has to deal with someone who is a threat to her personal life. The team she finds herself working with is a mixed bunch. I loved ‘Bradders’ who looks up to Liv and they have a good working relationship.
Along with Liv, we meet Jess, who has been through an horrific ordeal and has spent the last four years preparing herself on getting revenge for those who have wronged her. The storyline deals with rape which may be triggering for some readers but I thought it was dealt with very sensitively by the author. He doesn’t sugar coat the flaws within the legal system when it comes to this sort of crime. It is heart breaking at what victims have to go through and I felt compassion for this young woman.
Even though we know who the killer is, there are still some surprises in store. What follows is a chilling read that will have the reader going through a mix of emotions. You can feel the tension from both characters, with Liv and the team getting closer to working out the truth as well as from Jess and if she will succeed in her plan.
WRONGED WOMAN is a powerful start to a new series. I can’t wait for more from Liv and to see what other intriguing cases she finds herself working on. The storyline had me gripped throughout and eager to turn the pages to see what would happen next. The author has created two strong leading women in this book. Whilst I don’t condone Jess’s actions, she is a likeable character who the reader will certainly have empathy for. A thrilling read that packs more than a punch!
Have you ever wanted revenge on someone who's harmed you? Very few people are harmed as much as Jess and she's determined, strong, fit, and dangerous now. New on the police team searching for a murderer is Liv Mendes who is also haunted by a past which crops up again in the present. This is a great thriller. Not a mystery as we follow Jess through her planning, but the outcome is unknown. Col Bury has created a dilemma for Liv, and an interesting team into which she's the newbie. It's an exciting read and I look forward to more about Liv and how she settles in to the team.
Gritty crime drama on every page, set in Manchester, and where the author sets the scene with authentic detail, builds the drama and has you rooting for not just one, but for two separate protagonists as their fates come together.
2.5 ⭐️ rounded up. Started well and ended with pace but much slower in the middle and the same things seemed to happen over again. Quite a lot of missing words and spelling mistakes which could have been spotted by decent Beta or ARC readers. Didn’t like the end.
