Lords of Astria #1

Mated to the Alien King

Rate this book
Aerospace engineer Missy Caine is far too busy with her research to bother with men. No one she's dated can keep up with her intelligence and drive anyway. She prefers to spend her time working on building a new trans-space drive.

The last thing she expects is to be kidnapped by hugely tall and muscled Mal-Tunak.

Mal is Prince of the Actabarans. He is a Lord of Astria, a sexy warrior guardian of the galaxy and defender of Earth. He claims kidnapping her was an accident and he meant all along to ask her to be his bride.

The Dark Nebulans threaten the peace of the universe and Mal will do anything to win Missy, the chosen human woman of his heart. Even risk his own life.

This is a fun and quick romantic short read.

I think these very short stories are just not for me, I need more time for character consistency and for plot to develop in a believable time frame. I felt no chemistry between the love interests. Character reactions were incomprehensible at times. I mean, if any of my sisters were making sexual suggestions about some alien Dude who wants to marry me right after we were abducted, I would question their sanity no matter how "hot" that alien is supposed to be.

Too underdeveloped

There was no character chemistry. Something had to make them fall in love other than a botched flea market assassination attempt. Also the Alpha was not romantic at all!! BORING.....😞

How do you know if it’s love?

Prince Mal has no doubts, he selected his wife, but for Missy, who feels like she was informed upon meeting him on a blind date that they were to be married, it’s a fair question. Are they going to marry, and if so, because it is expected, needed, and required, or because there is something real between them?

This done in one quick read packs a lot of story in to a few pages.

Quick read

Enjoyed this story of a new alien people, world. Was fast paced and loved the characters, especially the Sisters. Would have loved to know more about her Prince. But was happy with story.

I understand that this is a (very) short read but I didn't even feel a connection between the main couple.

Yeah, I really have no excuse for this. It was an Amazon freebie. Don’t judge me.

Well, were to start. Missy is an engineer with no time for men and dating, and has never found a man intelligent enough to match her. All it takes is her being kidnapped and engaged (against her will) to an alien king. Simple. There isn’t much more to tell. She accepts her new situation far too quickly “wow, look, alien science stuff” and never really deals with the fact that she has no real choice in anything (including her marriage to an alien). There is absolutely no relationship progress, instead insta-love and kinda gross sex scenes.
He explodes inside filling me with his hot, alien seed. I feel it filling me beyond any capacity my merely human form has to contain. It flows out across us as I collapse on top of him.
Can you say ‘yuck’.

Anyway the book’s over as abruptly as it began and her sister’s (who was also abducted) happiness is quickly fixed in the last minute by some random alien being pressured by his king into marrying her - good start for any relationship. And everyone is happy and everything is perfect. the end.

Really, I can’t say that I had any hopes for this book. I guess I asked for it.

Written in first person present tense.

I liked it until they were abducted and accept their new situation quickly. Or maybe the heroine ignores the whole wife thing till later. For a romance it skips over any relationship building with the hero.

The love scene. I can't say I've ever read one in present tense that comes across well. It seemed cheesy while being graphic. The alien surgery must be incredible as he is on his injury the whole time.

Bam! It's over with a short epilogue about how perfect everything is.

It started off a bit promising with the dinner, then it went down hill with the abduction and the forced marriage instant love and total acceptance.

Missy (just the name makes me cringe) is a super intelligent woman, yet she acts like a total air head. And her sister is even worse!

It's too bad because the idea has potential to at least be good.

Should have left it at the free shelf at Amazon. Total waste of time. Thankfully it was short!

I don't know what I expected to be honest. It was free on Kindle books and I was in the mood for something quick. This would be a lot better if it was expanded a bit, especially in the development of relationships aspect. I also hated how they just accepted their fate without any fight. Then again, what do you expect with a 40 page story...

Good plot

Loved the plot of the story. I did feel that it was to short and would be better if expanded a bit.

Good short story. Pace changed rapidly mid way through and it felt too rushed at the end.
