In the glare of nuclear weapons and the screams of a dying civilization, the men and women of the US Army's Irregular Scout Team One battle their way across the remains of the United States to reach safety and home.
The final, dramatic conclusion to the Zombie Killers series!
J.F. Holmes is a retired Army Senior Noncomissioned Officer, having served for 22 years in both the Regular Army and Army National Guard. During that time, he served as everything from an artillery section leader to a member of a Division level planning staff, with tours in Cuba and Iraq, as well as responding to the terrorists attacks in NYC on 9-11.
From 2010 to 2014 he wrote the immensely popular military cartoon strip, "Power Point Ranger", poking fun at military life in the tradition of Beetle Bailey and Willy & Joe.
His books range from Military Sci-Fi to Space Opera to Detective to Fantasy, with a lot in between, and in 2017 two are finalists for the prestigious Dragon Awards. As of August 2017, Mr. Holmes has eighteen books and two novellas published.
Feel free to join Irregular Scout Team One on Facebook, and get a chance to influence the course and plot of his next book!
Another great entry in the series, even though this feels quite short. By the end of the book, only Nick, Brit , Red, and Ziv are left alive, every other member of the Lost Boys has been killed off. There is only a small group of firefights in here, but all of those fights manage to show how dangerous a real zombie apocalypse can be, even how silly accidents can get you dead just as easily as zombies or cannibals. Basically, after the events of the last book, when zombie plague 2.0 is released by a crazy dictator, Nick and his crew of merry men (and ladies) is being flown home from Seattle to New York via California. The plane crashes in Nebraska somewhere, and the survivors have to work together to get to NY. They fight a group of cannibals, a zombie-filled Walmart, and find a survivor town supported by a Special Forces A-Team, but a 10,000 zombie horde shows up, and the Lost Boys are the only ones to stop them. They manage to draw the horde away from the town, but lose most of their team doing so. In the end, Ziv walks away to "perhaps become a Warlord", and Brit and Nick get picked up by a rescue chopper.
I'm flabbergasted by this series, it is so much more than I expected. A lot of zombie books are about blood and gore but this book is more about the people. It explains so well the bonds between the fighting personnel that us civilians can never imagine or understand. Makes one feel humble. Great series.
A great ending, and possible new beginning, to a powerful and "realistic" series written by someone who's experience makes it a great read. Can't wait to see where it goes from here!
As all the rest of the Irregular Scout Team books, this one is another 5 star hit. Mr. Holmes excels at drawing the reader in, making you care about the survival of each of his characters. I hate this is the last of this series, but what a great way to end it.
