The world below the clouds has been dead for ten thousand years. Jonathan Roe just landed in it.
And it doesn’t take long to figure out why no one has ever returned from the surface.
He has no memory. He has no allies. Something is hunting him, and it doesn’t leave survivors. Buried beneath the ruins is Deimos—a weapon so powerful every faction alive is willing to burn everything to claim it first. And above him, the people Jonathan loves are running out of time.
Book 2: The Unmaking Tide is my favorite, so I came in with high expectations. Book 3: Dead Man Walking gutted me.
The emotional weight hits early and doesn’t let up. Jonathan faces losses that redefine who he is and what he’s fighting for. There’s a new chaotic and funny yet deeply lonely character that became one of my fav characters. The friendship between this character and Jonathan as they navigate an impossible world is everything. The genuine warmth and loyalty of the people Jonathan cares about, the way they show up for him, the small moments of humor and connection in the darkness. It reminds you why the loss matters in the first place.
The world is uniquely terrifying. Dangerous, but worth exploring. Underneath all the grief and isolation is Jonathan’s refusal to give up, his determination to find answers and save people, even when everything is falling apart.
This book is still action-packed, but it’s less about action and more about survival, connection, and what you’re willing to fight for when you’ve already lost so much.
If you love Book 2, prepare yourself. This book is beautiful and devastating. It doesn’t hold back, but it’s worth it. I truly could not put this down.
