About the author

Madeleine Chapsal is the daughter of the politician Fernand Chapsal and of the Vionnet dressmaker Marcelle Chaumont.

She married the French journalist Jean-Jacques Servan-Schreiber in 1947. Together, they founded L'Express. They divorced in 1960, but remained friends.

She was a member of the Prix Femina jury between 1981 and 2006.

Quoique l'histoire soit captivante et bien écrite - elle décrit une passion d'amour où la femme se soumet totalement à l'homme, au point à en devenir esclave et s'effacer complètement - les 40 dernières pages révèlent une femme totalement différente. La fin est inattendue, et bâclée en quelques pages, ce qui m'a déçu très fort. C'est l'histoire d'un amour impossible à répétition...
