Well for 16-year old Jason Page this is now a reality. After inheriting a new house from a mysterious Uncle, Jason and his mother move to the beautiful and quiet town of Perigord.
But even with the emergence of these fantastic powers, Jason has to contend with psychotic students, a shadowy town sheriff, unearthly mercenaries and an ancient prophecy with catastrophic repercussions.
With the help of the beautiful Selene Jaeger and the enigmatic town librarian Ulysses Walker, they must prevent the use of the Gjallarhorn a mystical Norse artifact with the power to raise an unstoppable army during the town’s Harvest moon Festival.

Born in 1972, Katherine, NT and married with three children I have always loved to read in particular fantasy fiction. My favourite authors include JRR Tolkien, Robert E Howard, Stephen King, Raymond E Feist and the awesome Matthew Reilly. Growing up I was always a bit of a geek, in particular my love of comics and horror movies, something that has stayed with me well into my “mature years”.

I was a soldier in the Australian Defence Force for nearly 20 years, having served on operations in Rwanda and East Timor, and later an instructor at the School of Infantry. I'm a qualified cinema graphic make-up artist, having trained under Oscar winner Peter Frampton, I had high aspirations of being the next Tom Savini. I enjoy keeping fit, reading and annoying my kids.

I still love cheesy B grade movies in particular anything with zombies and I love hanging out with my brothers every chance I get, both of whom are successful writers in their own respective fields.

Writing Perigord has been an immensely satisfying journey and one that has yet to reach its final destination.

Rating 4.5 out of 5 stars

The story starts with a prologue introducing Plato Wyngard, Jason's uncle. And it was enough to keep me intrigued and interested to read further. His disappearance is what paves the way for Jason and his mother to inherit his house in Perigord. I loved the setting of this queer old town and it's inhabitants.

Jason meets Selene Jaeger, a fellow classmate and befriends her soon enough. But Selene is not the only fascinating character. I loved the stark and stoic librarian, Ulysses Walker.
The story takes some time to build the plot, so initially I was a bit lethargic for the ride. But Oh thank God I didn't slow down! The chapters kept getting shorter and faster in pace the more I read.

Jason is one funny guy whom I would very much love to befriend if he existed in reality. Loving, caring, honest, a good son, a nice friend, and above all, a good person! Hmm, hanging out with someone like him seems like a very irresistible idea.

Selene Jaeger is yet another wonder. She is no damsel in distress. When trouble finds her, she needn't look up to anybody for help. No matter what the situation is, she always has a good handle on things. I didn't expect I would come to love her character so much. All the character developments took place with time, so nothing was rushed, which is a definite plus point.

The most crucial thing was the narration and vocabulary. And what should I say, I'm absolutely amazed! To pull off a work like this on a debut novel is quite impressive and a humongous job. All the conversations between the characters have been penned with careful ruminations. They all felt so real and entertaining! Nothing was taken lightly while sketching this up. Thumbs up for that!

The suspense builds up diligently as Jason and Selene move from one secret to another, dealing psychotic students from Perigord High and beasts unimaginably horrifying. And as the Harvest Moon Festival slowly transpires, they find themselves in a surreal race against time to find the conspirator who's planning to raise an unstoppable army by using an ancient Norse artifact, the Gjallarhorn. Could it get any more nerve jerking?

And then that sizzling chemistry between Jason and Selene! Initially I thought there might not be any spark between the two since their friendship started so early, but I was so wrong! Involuntarily, I came to love the duo a lot. Even Ulysses' unexpected humorous side was quite something to read about.

I would rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. If you love fantasy stories with solid story lines, do grab this one. Percy Jackson fans, I'm sure you'll love this too! Even though the story borrowed some time at first to develop, the ending will make it up to you I promise.

I couldn't be any happier about the fact that I luckily discovered this book. And I just can't wait to read the next book in the series 'Ghosts of Perigord' ! Perigord is an enchanting fantasy that keeps you awake through sleepless nights, and teleports you directly to its mysterious world with dangers, secrets, and oh, otherworldly beings of course! Buckle up for a psychedelic ride!

We all make assumptions about books. I had made some about this book, and by extension, the series which starts with this book.
As a result of these assumptions, I didn’t read it for a while. Having heard that book 4 was about to be released, and in need of a distraction from work and a world wide pandemic, I thought I’d give it a go.
Chapter 4 (of 49) saw something crop up that piqued my interest, and from then on I was hooked.
I had to uncover the secret behind that tease. That led to another tease, and another, and another....
I’m sad for myself that I hadn’t read this book earlier, I’m now determined to read 5 more books (the other 2 currently available in this series and the 3 in the companion series Plato Wyngard) before the next books in the respective series are released!
What were my assumptions? That because it’s a YA novel there would be a lot of typical teen angst going on. Knowing Marc, I should have known better!!
I apologise for my low expectations Marc, and thank you for blowing them out of the water!!
There is a little bit of teen angst, but it is:
* not the main story;
* completely in context for someone who has moved towns at the start of the book, and this needs to find his way, meet people, etc;
* a small portion of the book; and
* WAAAAAY overshadowed (in a very good way!!!) by the action and mysteries in the book.

First up i love anything with vampires and werewolves, which technically this does not, it's still in the same field of books. The cover is fantastic and the characters are sexy without being over done. Theirs a mystery involving viking mythology which is pretty cool and the best thing is that it is going to be a continued story yah. # :).

Two words. Loved it. I love paranormal romance novels, but I've found a lot fall into the usual plot traps. Not Perigord The characters were sincere and the story was different from anything out there at the moment. Well done.

Interesting story. I'm in the states and the author is Australian, so the writing style is different. And I think it's his first novel. I tried not to be annoyed with grammar and such, considering. I think the story has potential as a series and as he grows into his writing. It's a sort of supernatural/sci-fi. Sometimes juvenile, but I liked it and would potentially look into what happens to the characters in further stories.

Needs tighter editing of both grammar and storyline: some details like meals basically unnecessary to further the plot. The storyline is full of adventure with some well written characters. Although the main plot is tied up and ready for the next step there are a couple of loose ends left hanging which I hope he remembers in the next instalment. I want to read the next book but it is hard to get past the poor grammar of " could of" and their for there.
